“Let’s go in here!” Kimmy cried, pulling me into a dimly lit, heavily perfumed store. Rosalie followed.

“I’ll wait out here,” I told her. “I don’t think I will be able to stand the perfume after a few minutes.”

“Okay, your loss.”

“I’ll stay too,” Alice volunteered. I rejoiced inwardly. I really needed to talk to her.

Kimmy and Rosalie left us without a second thought.

After a few moments of awkward silence, I asked “What’s with Edward? Why did he leave her?”

“He didn’t want us to hurt her, but I think that leaving killed her.” She whispered.

“What happened to him?”

“Well, we stayed with our friends in Alaska.” She began, “He locked himself in an unused bedroom and just sat there. Emmett brought him blood every time he went hunting.”

“That’s all he did?” I asked in disbelief.

“No, when he finally tried to fake a life, Tanya, one of our friends, tried to get his attention but he totally ignored her. She got really mad, so we moved back here two years ago,” she said sadly.

“He moped around for sixty years?”

“No, He only moped around for twenty, and then we moved back here. He couldn’t stand being constantly reminded of Bella, so we moved to Russia. Three years later, we moved back to Alaska. We stayed hidden, out of and human’s sight. We came back here two years ago.”

“In Alaska the second time, did he pay any attention to Tanya?” I asked, hoping for a yes and a no.

“Yes, but she was married.” Rosalie said from behind us.

“Let’s go!” Kimmy cried enthusiastically.

“Sure.” I said.

“Try this on.” Alice instructed, thrusting a shimmering deep purple ball gown at me.

“Uh, why?” I asked, confused.

“Prom, of course!” she said.

I went into the dressing room, pulled on the dress, and glanced in the mirror. I looked amazing. The dress complemented my form and looked really…good. After I decided that I liked it, I walked out of the dressing room to show Alice.

“You look lovely!” Kimmy cried, sounding like Esme.

“Beautiful!” Alice exclaimed.

“I’d look better,” Rosalie said. I didn’t reply.

“I’ll but it for you,” Kimmy offered.

“No, it’s mine. I’ll pay for it,” I told her.

After I had paid for our dresses, we left. On the way home, we were discussing our previous proms. I lied and said that I had never been to prom. Wow, I have lied a lot lately…

“Oh, well it’s fun,” Alice said happily. “I love getting ready to go.” I nodded. Typical Alice. “One year, Edward was taking Bella to prom, and she had no idea where they were going until they were at school.”

“How could she not know?” I laughed. Now that I think about it, it is pretty funny.

“I have no idea,” she said. We both grinned and burst into laughter. Suddenly, she sat strait up, her face blank.

“Alice?” Kimmy said, “Alice! Are you okay?”

“Don’t worry about her,” Rosalie said, not taking her eyes off the road. “She’ll explain later.” I held in the urge to ask Alice what she saw. I knew it would give me away.

Finally, Alice said “Rose, we have to get home.”

“Why?” she asked.

“I have to take Edward shopping for a tux,” Alice replied with a mischievous grin. “He is going to prom.”

“What the heck are you talking about?” Kimmy demanded. “Stop confusing me!”

“I see the future,” Alice explained. “I only see things when people make a decision to do something. If they change their mind, my vision changes.”

“So what did you see?” I asked curiously.

“I saw Edward going to prom with someone.” She told me. I knew what she had left out. He decided to ask me, and I agreed to go with him.

Returning to the Cullen house, Alice jumped out of the car.

“Edward! Come on, we’re going shopping!”

Edward walked out of the house, looking confused. “Do I have to?” he looked at Alice, then at me. This confirmed my suspicions.

“You’re going to prom!” Alice cried, pulling him towards her car. Kimmy and Rosalie were heading inside and I started to follow them when Alice cried “Abi! You have to come too! I can’t hold Edward down by myself!”

I figured she wanted me to help her find a tux, seeing as I was going with Edward, but as far as I was concerned, this was all pointless. There was no way I would say yes to Edward again. I grudgingly followed Alice to the car.

“You drive,” she told me. “If Edward jumps out, I have to be able to follow him.”

I held back a smile. After securely seat belting Edward in and locking all of the doors, She slipped into the seat beside him. I started driving.

“Don’t worry! I don’t think he’ll escape us.” Alice assured me.

“Watch out,” Edward said. “I’ll run away when you’re not looking.” He leaned forward in his chair and rested his chin of the shoulder of my seat. “Since I’m going to the prom, will you go with me?”

I swerved the car so badly we nearly crashed. I slammed on the brakes and turned to face him. “No! Never! Why are you asking me? What happened to your precious Bella?”

Edward looked down sadly. “I don’t know. She is probably…” he sighed. “Probably dead. I miss her and wish I had never left, but I can’t live like this forever. I’ve been so miserable for sixty years. I either have to kill myself or move on. I want to move on, so as not to hurt the people who love me. Please don’t hate me. You don’t have to go to prom with me.”

I sat quietly, trying to absorb his words. I realized I was crying tearlessly. I’d missed him too, but I couldn’t get rejected again. He’d lied to me and left me to die. He didn’t really want me back, did he? I couldn’t fall back in love, but I couldn’t hurt him. I groaned, my brain and heart were battling fiercely, and my heart was winning.

“Alright,” I said quietly. “I’ll go with you, but I can’t – “ I can’t what? Fall in love? No, I can’t get involved. I can not fall in love. I am so stupid. Ugh!

“It’s okay,” Edward said. “I won’t expect anything of you. You may just be feeling sorry for me, or you’re trying to help. It’s okay.”

Alice, who had been sitting quietly this whole time, spoke up. “So are we buying a tux or not?”

I simply smiled, “Edward?”

“Yes,” he confirmed.

At the store, Alice went on a rampage looking for the perfect tux for Edward. We were only expected to make a comment every once in a while, and Alice was off. She managed to find Diamond jewelry and shoes for me, and a tuxedo for Edward. I found that I was enjoying myself, and liked Edward again. I quickly tried to stop, but couldn’t. I was falling in love with him. History would repeat itself, whether I liked it or not.
