A few hours north of the girl who was enduring her transformation into a vampire, Carlisle Cullen was walking into the doors of Forks Community Hospital. He had been called there the night before to help with the outbreak of the Pacific Flu. He was welcomed with open arms.
An older nurse came up to him as he went to get his charts. “The patients with the Pacific Flu are upstairs.” She said quietly. Dr. Cullen nodded and followed her up to the next floor, putting on the facial masks just like everyone else, even though he had no need.
“Have there been any improvements in any of the patients?” Carlisle asked in a low voice. The nurse nodded.
“Yes, in one only. We thought she would be one of the first to go, she had it so bad. But she’s been improving in the last few days. It’s a little surprising. She had depression, and never ate enough. I guess she had a strong will to live.” Ms. Koaler said in an awed voice.
Carlisle was interested in this. “How old is she?” he asked.
“Eighteen. She came in with another girl from the high school, both were pretty bad. The other one is comatose though, right now. Poor dear.” The elderly nurse shook her head in sadness.
“What’s her name?” Carlisle asked. He suddenly had the feeling that he didn’t want to know, but he asked anyway. The nurse didn’t answer at first, opening the door to a room. She turned to him before looking in.
“Isabella Swan.” She said. Carlisle eyes widened. His sons love was here with her life on the line…
Suddenly, he noticed the absence of smell. It seemed like no one had been in there for a few hours. Bella’s stale scent and three others. “Where is she?” he demanded.
The nurse looked at him in confusion. She turned, and saw Bella’s empty room. She ran to the phone on the wall, Carlisle right behind her. She rang up the nurse’s station.
“Hello, Peggy, does Ms. Swan have any tests today?” she asked. She listened to the nurse’s reply, her stomach dropping. Carlisle closed his eyes, and sighed. “Was she going anywhere today? She isn’t in her room!”
A few hours later, they still had no luck finding Bella Swan. They now had the police, including her father, searching the town for her. They all knew that without her medicine, she didn’t have very long.
While the town searched, Dr. Cullen sat at his old desk, debating whether to call home. He knew that they could help, but also that Edward might flip out.
He stood up with a sigh. He could do whatever his family could. He decided to check Bella’s room.
He walked in there. He scent was everywhere, along with medicine and the scent of nurses and-
Three others. At first, they smelled like humans, but there was something undercurrent. Vampires. Yet, it wasn’t vampire. It was a mix, almost as if whoever took her were half vampire and half human…
Carlisle Cullen shook his head. It was impossible to be half vampire and half human. One of them must be able to disguise their scent very well. And whoever they were took his almost daughter.
His mind was set. He would call his family, and they would search for her. He just prayed Edward wasn’t home as he dialed.
“Hello?” came Jasper’s voice.
“Jasper, I need you, Emmet and Alice to come up here. Bella was kidnapped by vampires, I think.”
Jasper gasped into the phone. “What?” there was a lot of doubt his tone. Carlisle hoped that he was wrong.
“Bella’s been in the hospital on her death bed from the new outbreak up here. I think three vampires took her last night.”
Jasper sounded like he was about to speak, when a gasp was heard. He could hear Alice asking for the phone.
“Carlisle, is Bella okay?” I could hear the worry in her tone. Bella had been Alice’s best friend, almost sister. I knew how worried she would be.
“I don’t know. We have to find her first.” He answered.
“Alright, we’ll be there as soon as we can.” She said.
"No, I think it would be best if we stay away, for now. If she doesn't show up in a few days, then we can search for her." Carlsile replied.
"Fine. But I'm only giving you a week." Alice said before hanging up. Carlisle sighed. He hoped Bella would be back by then.
