“What?” I asked now anxious.“Well it’s just …” he started “Jacob’s back.” I was suddenly consumed with rage. How dare he show his face again?!?! “Don’t worry!” he said when he saw the rage that filled my eye, “Emmett’s taking care of it.” At that moment Emmett got up from the table and went to leave. “No,” I said – just at a conversationally tone but still with enough commend. “Don’t worry Bella!” Emmett said smiling, “I can take care of myself.” “No let me go I’m sure Jacob just wants to see if I’m still alive,” I said. “Also he deserves a good wack for what he did,” I said furiously. “Not exactly Bella,” Edward said sounding upset, “He is extremely angry at the moment, I don’t think it would be wise for you to go out there.”
“I’ll be fine” I insisted and went to get up but Edward grabbed my wrist and I knew I wasn’t able to go anywhere, but I still glared at him.
“Bella, don’t be angry at me, I almost lost you once today I am not going to loss you again!” he sounded sad; I hadn’t thought of how much pain he would have gone through while I was unconscious, I suddenly felt extremely guilty.“Sorry,” I whispered so only he could he. “It’s fine,” he said smiling, then kissed me on the forehead. Emmett started to leave. “Rosalie, Jacob’s dangerous at the moment, he’s angry and unpredictable, would you really let Emmett go?” I asked her, there was a moment of silence and I could see different emotion flash across her face, Emmett stood frozen looking at Rosalie’s face. “No,” she said, I felt sudden relief wash over me, “I going with him.” “NO!” I said a little bit softer then a scream, “he’ll kill you both!” “Don’t worry Bella,” Jasper said for the first time, “he’s calming down.” “What does he want?” I asked Edward. “Truthfully, he wants to rip us all apart,” he indicated to his family, “and run away with you.” “But that’s not going to happen,” Emmett said when he saw the sudden horror on my face. Suddenly Carlisle showed up. “He’s broken the treaty, Bella,” he said “I’m just going to remind him to leave quickly … or else.” No one seemed to argue with Carlisle – his word was final, but still I stared disapprovingly as he walked out the door. “Keep us updated!” Emmett told Edward.
“Shall do,” he replied. “Jacob wants to rip Carlisle apart but is restraining himself. He has asked to talk to Bella, What?” Edward said alarmed, “No, Carlisle can’t!”
“What?” I asked anxious.
“Carlisle has agreed to let you see the monster alone.”“It’s fine, Edward,” I reassured him.
“No,” I could see the pain in his eyes. “I won’t let you.” He tightened his hold on my wrist.
Then he suddenly stood up and pulled me towards the door; his arm wrapped protectively around my waist. He stood outside facing Jacob with me slightly behind him and Carlisle left.
“See, she’s alive, now leave!” Edward snarled.
“I would never kill her, unlike you!” Jacob spatted out through gritted teeth. I knew what Jacob was talking about, immediately – my change.
“You know, it’s what she wants,” Edward said with a sly grin.
Edward’s remark pushed Jacob over the edge, his body shook vigorously and he suddenly phased from man to werewolf. Edward threw me behind him to protect me, but there was no need as Jacob turned on his heels and raced off towards La Push.
Edward turned, “It’s alright now, he won’t be back. He doesn’t think he’ll be able to control himself around you anymore.” I was silent.
“Let’s go inside,” he continued. I nodded and he led me away. I was exhausted but I still had a long night ahead of me.
Everything seemed normal back at the party, everyone was happy and talking as if nothing had happened. Edward and I sat back down, and then Charlie appeared with a white envelope.
“Here, Bells … and Edward” he said awkwardly as he handed me the envelope. Inside was a “congratulations!” card with a thousand dollar cheque.
“For your new life,” he said.
“Thanks, Dad!” I said as I hugged him.
“Thank-you” Edward said holding out his hand, the gesture caught Charlie off guard but he quickly recovered and shook Edward’s hand.
“That’s fine Kiddos! Anyway, I’ve got an early start in the morning and you know how I am with parties,” he smiled “So I’ll be off!”
“See you later Dad!” I said.“Love you Bells,” he said as he walked away.
We sat back down and I leant my head against his shoulder wishing I could go to sleep.
“Sorry, Bella, but we’ve got to go too,” Angela said still smiling.
“Here” Ben said as he passed us a gold box. Inside was two white towels and at the end of the towels was ‘Edward’ and ‘Bella’ embroidered on each towel.“Thank-you” I said sincerely – it felt like I was thanking them for everything: being such a great friends, coming here, for the present and everything else they have done for me.
“You’re welcome!” she said while I hugged her and Edward shook Ben’s hand. “I don’t know when I’ll see you next, with college and your honeymoon we might not see each other for a while.” She sighed. I now felt the utter string of separating. I knew this would be the last time I was able to see, my friend, Angela - while I was still human, that is.
“But we’ll keep in touch – Email or something,” I said reassuring her… and myself.
“Of course,” she said with a huge grin.
“I’ll miss you,” I said softly.
“Me too,” she said as she hugged me again, “Well, I have to leave or else mum will freak.”
“Thanks for coming,” I said to both of them.
“Bye,” Angela waved as she walked out of the door.
“Bye,” I replied but I don’t know if she could hear me.
I sat down next to Edward.
“I’ll really miss her,” I whispered.
“You don’t have to,” he said suddenly serious.
“Like you said before – it’s what I want,” I said sheepishly.
“Still,” he said thoughtfully.
“No,” I could sense that he was trying to persuade me to wait a little longer.
“Whatever,” he said lightly, dropping the subject.
Time passed and soon Renee and Phil were ready to leave. Together they walked towards us to say ‘Good-bye’
“Congratulations,” she said again. “Here’s a small gift for you two,” and Phil handed a large box to Edward.
“Careful it’s heavy,” he said as he passed it to Edward, but I was sure that it was as light as a feather to Edward.
“I got it,” Edward said calmly, as he placed it on the table. He gracefully unwrapped the silver paper and revealed a laptop.
“Mum, Phil you shouldn’t have,” I said when I saw the new version laptop.
“Do you like it?” Renee asked.
“Of course I do, Thank-you,” I said while hugging Mum and Phil.
“Thanks” Edward said while he shook Renee and Phil’s hands.
“Our pleasure,” Phil said in a rusty voice.
“Anyway, we got to run,” Renee said, “and I’ll see you tomorrow.”“Sure,” I said smiling. “Bye,” I said as they left.
Then it was just the Cullen’s.
“Welcome to the Cullen’s, Bella,” Esme said with a massive grin.
“Thank-you,” I said smiling as well.
“Present time,” Alice sung as she walked into the room.
“What! Alice, I told you I didn’t want any presents,” I insisted.
“I know,” she said with a sheepish smile, “but Edward didn’t,” she laughed.
“Sit” she commanded as she gently pushed Edward and I back into the couch.
“Here,” Esme said softly, “this is from Carlisle and me.” She passed me a large, heavy rectangular present that was very thin. I unwrapped it to discover a large metal photo frame.
“It’s for your wedding photo,” she smiled, “though I might need to get a proper one, when you’re not wearing one of Edward’s old t-shirts,” She laughed.
“Thank-you,” I said sincerely and hugged her.
“Thanks,” Edward she hugging her as well.
“That’s not all,” she said in a teasing tone, “follow me,” she said grabbing my hand and pulling me up. She led outside and there in the driveway was a brilliant silver Jaguar. I stared at it – it was beautiful. Its body was smooth and elegant. It had four doors and its interior was a light cream. It looked very fast … and comfortable. Around the car was a thick red ribbon that tied into a delicate bow at the top of the car.
I could feel my jaw drop in awe.
“Do you like it?” Esme asked anxiously.
“Rosalie did a lot of work on it you know,” Carlisle said
“Thank-you,” I whispered, and then turned to face both of them. “It’s amazing, thank-you so much!” I said hugging them both.
“Our pleasure, Bella darling,” Esme said.
“Do you like it, Edward?” Carlisle asked.
“Of Course I do,” he said with a huge grin. “I wasn’t expecting this!”
Carlisle laughed. “Of course you didn’t, you thought that we were giving you tickets to Romeo and Juliet.”
Edward laughed. “Something like that.”
“Our turn,” Alice said rushing to pull us back inside.
“So I’m guessing that you aren’t giving us scrapbook,” Edward said jokingly.
“Nope, but stay out of my head,” she commanded him, as she sat us on the lounge.
“This is from all over us,” Rosalie said smiling at me as she indicated at Jasper, Alice, Emmett and herself. She hand both Edward and I an envelope. We both curiously opened it. Inside were pictures of a large estate in the northern countryside of Alaska. It was beautiful – there was a large forest at the back of an old mansion. It was very green with a small stream running through it. The house was triple story and was made out of old brown and grey bricks with wild vines crawling up the old walls. It had a blue-grey rooftop and old pillars for support. The interior of the house was a soft cream, which looked very warm and inviting; there were also many large fireplaces to keep it heated in the winter. There was a lot of room - inside and outside but I didn’t understand what they were getting at, by giving us pictures of a house – but Edward did. His perfect face, was stunned by surprise, his jaw dropped slightly in awe.
“Wow!” was all he managed to say, and then I worked it out. They had given us a house – our own home.
“Ohhhh!” my breath was taken away; how could I accept a house from them?Alice was in hysterics. “Your faces,” she laughed over and over again. I could see Emmett and Rosalie both also trying to suppress giggles.
Then I couldn’t take it anymore - I busted into tears. Everyone was suddenly shocked by my random outburst.
“Oh thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!” I said between my tear – though no one seem to understand what I was saying. Then Jasper unexpectedly stated laughing. Alice was glaring at him though he kept on laughing.
“She’s crying from joy!” he explained my mood.
“I’m just so overwhelmed by your generosity!” I said controlling my sobs.
“It’s alright Bella,” Esme said as she wrapped her cold, marble arms around my trembling body, “you’re part of the family now.”
“Thank-you!” I whispered as she wiped my tears away. Then she got up and I leant my head on Edward’s shoulders sleepily.
“So the plan is…” Alice said excitedly, “ that you both go up to the new house for your honeymoon and then in a few weeks we’ll come and join you. Then we’ll have the big changing ceremony,” she said sarcastically though Edward’s grip still tightened around me at the thought of it.
“You’re going to love it there Bella, it’s already furnished – and you can go swimming or horse riding or for walks and watch the sunset …” and Alice continued to name countless thing I could do at the house. I looked up at Edward who was playing with my hair – his eyes were bright with happiness and I was suddenly looking forward to my new future.
“Wait another present,” Alice said surprised and handed me the envelope. It was only addressed to Bella, which seemed odd for a wedding but never the less I opened it.Inside the white envelope was an unusual card – a sympathy card. The cover was of a bouquet of roses laid across a table and in gold writing were the words ‘My Deepest Sympathy.’ I knew immediately whom it was from – rage suddenly filled me and I knew everyone could sense it not just Jasper.
