Two different people. Two different lives. Both running away from things they couldn't handle and didn't want to face. But a head on collision between the wounded Jacob and cunning Luz Maria maybe worth more trouble than facing the demons before them. (FIN : WASHOUT)

Well, here I go. I’m almost close. I mean, there’s signs that lead to it. Crap. Don’t tell me the engine is giving out! It splutters. Ah, what do I know. I keep driving in. I reach the sign welcoming me into the Quileute Reservation. Once more, it seems that only inanimate objects are happy to see me, because I know everyone in this place must hate me. Oh boo-hoo. I ran over little baby Jacob. Boo-hoo. Hey, at least I didn’t leave him on the side of the road. It was his idiot ass who was running toward the car.

I feel someone watching me. I turn to my window. Some little kid is staring at me. I roll down the window.

"Kid. You know Jacob Black?" He nods.

"Is he around?" He shrugs.

"You know where he lives?"

"Down the road, make a left, a right, go straight, go left."

I proceed with the directions given. In no time at all, I arrive at the Black residence. A man on a wheelchair opens the door. He looks somewhat like Jacob, slightly, with enough features that you can tell they’re related.

"Can I help you?"

I step out of the car. And I lie. Of course I lie. Not good, but it’s easy.

"Yes, I’m looking for Jacob Black. I’m responsible for his accident, and I wanted to come apologize."

The man stares me down for a minute. The thoughts of earlier flood my head. Does he see the monster? Heh. What do I care? His son is the monster. They’re all monsters.

"What’s your name?"

That damn question. Well, they’ll all know sooner or later. "Luz Maria."

"Well, he’s not here right now, but if you want"--

"And then she told me, I don’t apologize to kids with cancer, why should I apologize to you?’ !"

A voice interrupts me and Billy. The voice stops as well. I turn around to see no one other than Jacob Black, the man himself, with the friend who had welcomed me in after the accident.

We all stare at each other in awkward silence. The man in the well chair clears his throat.

"Jacob, this young lady came to apologize for the accident earlier. Embry, would you like some food? You can come inside."

"Sure Billy." The friend walks toward the man in the wheelchair, glancing at me. They walk inside the house.

Jacob has a smirk on his face. "So you finally came to apologize?"

"No. I came to ask you how much it would be to fix the engine of the car you damaged."

His expression changes to one of that by someone who has just been slapped. "No!"

I sigh. "You dented the hood, under that is the engine, where there are problems."

"So? Your car ran into me, where it slammed into my arm, cut against the side of my face, nearly taking my ear off, and causing immobility for two weeks." The sun is kissing the horizon now.

"Look, are you going to give me a price or not?"

He contemplates it for a minute. "Apologize."

"I’ll be back tomorrow Jacob Black. If you want an apology, ask my parents for it. They were the ones driving."

He glares at me as I walk to the car. Sizing me up I presume. I close the car door and turn on the car. A horrible splutter and one headlight kill the effect I was going for. Jacob stands, with his arms crossed, a stern face I saw on his leader pal a few days ago. The light shines on him. I never did notice how good looking he was before. No matter. What must be done will be done.

"You going to run me over again?"

"Can you please move?" Or I will run you over. Twice.

He turns to the side and I drive forward. As I pass him, he speaks.

"You’ve got a broken and dirty headlight."

"You broke it and it’s your blood. Explains the scar that no one can see." He glares at me and I smile. The car wheezes, and our expressions switch. I drive off.

Hah. Who does she think she is? It would make me angry, but it’s too funny, so I just laugh. And she seems to hate that, so I think I’ll laugh even more.

In fact, it will be the most I’ve laughed since . . . since Bella left. I need to stop thinking about her. They all tell me that. But they don’t understand. That damn leech took her from me. She could have been mine! She loved me back. I know she did.

I walk back inside. Billy is hanging up the phone while Embry is watching tv. He looks up.

"She seems like. . . . a nice girl." Embry and I scoff at his remark. "What, do you two know her?"

"Not much, but enough to know she’s no good." Embry changes the channel.

"Well, you’ll never know unless you get to know her. Look, she came to apologize. Took her two weeks, but she came to apologize."

"She probably hoped he was dead." I throw a cushion at Embry and he grins.

"Please. She came looking for me. After she saw me this morning, she couldn’t resist seeing me again."

Now they both laugh. I know Embry is probably right. The girl looks like she’s about to kill someone. There’s something in the look she gives people.

The door opens. It’s Sam. Great. I haven’t seen him all day. He’s been hanging out with some new guy. Diego I think?

"Hey Billy. Thanks. Embry," Sam looks at me, and motions for me to step outside with him.

"Hey. What’s going on Sam?"

"Well, I’ll tell you, but keep it between us, okay?" Sam had seemed tense ever since the accident. He had been reluctant to tell me anything.

"Well, I’ve been making new allies. You know Diego?"

"Yeah.Is he one of us?"

"Not exactly. The coyote you heard a few nights ago? That was him. He’s a skin walker."

Whoa. A skin walker? There must be a boatload of other things out there that we haven’t even had contact with.

"So is he with the Pack?"

"Not entirely. Our thoughts didn’t transmit at all at first, but we’re working on it."

"Okay . . . "

He looked serious. "Jacob, I need you to be careful. Especially around Luz Maria."

"The girl who ran you over. She swears she saw something else run at the car."

Oh. Great. This is not good. At all. "Are you sure?"

"She’s probably dropped it by now, but keep a sharp eye out. Okay?"

I nod. Well isn’t this great? Can my life get any better?

Luz Maria

" He wants you guys to apologize, then he’ll look at the engine."

"But we sent him flowers, cards, even a teddy bear!" Oh, yeah. But I burned those . . . Ah well.

"It makes people feel like you care Dad. Just go. I heard he’s really good. Besides, you did run him over." What? Jacob was bound to make that remark anyway.

"Yeah. Tomorrow." I yawn and make my way upstairs. I go to my bed, my sweet bed that calls me with dreams. May my dreams bring me ideas on how to pull Jacob closer to me, and push Diego down the stairs of doom and despair.
