I woke up to find Edward sitting in the old rocking chair that I had forced them to keep in my room. Emmet wanted to use it for one of his and Edward’s annual dodge ball tournaments, which really just involved them throwing random objects at each other and seeing how far they could get the other one to fly, that is if they hit each other.

“Good morning sleepyhead.” Edward whispered from his chair.

Good morning to you too, I thought. He smile and kissed me on my forehead.

“Are you ready to go back to school?” He asked and then thought, because I know that you probably do not want to see either Lucas or Jeremy anytime soon after yesterday.

I had almost forgotten about yesterday. Had it really been yesterday and not last week? My dream had just felt so real. I replied when I noticed him staring at me, waiting for my answer, “I think I will live today if I do go, and there is no real reason to miss just because of two guys who just happen to hate each other, but both like me. I can ignore them, I hope, and if I can’t you can have your way with Luke okay?”

Edward mentally smiled at the thought of cornering Lucas in a dark corner and planning how to dispose of him. That made me laugh. Edward had such a funny mind.

Edward was out of the room just as I had touched my feet to the floor and was in a sitting position on my bed. He never liked it when I was awake in the morning and he was in the room. I felt something hard and cold bump against my chest as I got up. It was the same amulet that Jeremy had given me in the dream. I quickly dressed and at a tiny portion of the ginormious breakfast that Bella and Esme always made for me. They never knew when to stop cooking.

Edward was waiting for me in his Volvo, I climbed in the back seat as Bella, Alice, and Jasper filed in after me. We were off to school at an average speed of one-hundred miles per hour; nothing too out of the ordinary.

Lucas was waiting for me, but backed off as Edward smirked at his imagination’s creations of what might “accidentally” happen to Lucas if he annoyed me. Jeremy was easy for me to handle. We passed notes. He apologized about yesterday, I told him that it was alright, that it was Luke’s fault anyway. That’s how I saw it. Jeremy had come, trying to enjoy his time with me, and then Lucas just shows up out of no where when I am walking back to Alec’s house, and the rest is history. I also told him that I needed to talk to him at lunch. He seemed to be eyeing my amulet that he had given me with a sense of pride in his eyes.

Class was boring when I was not answering questions, or passing notes too quickly for the teacher to see. Lucas stayed away from me all day, and that was nice but I did fell a little bad about yesterday, and having Edward go and talk to him. But I did not say, or think, a single word in his direction. He was easy to ignore.

Alec texted me just before I got to the cafeteria:

Come and meet me by the small elm tree in the parking lot it’s important.

I sighed and figured that it was the least I could do after leaving him back at the Rez. I mean, I left without even trying to help him. Hopefully this conversation would not be about Lucas or Jeremy though. How wrong I was.

“Ok… I’m going to tell you right now that this will be about yesterday, so don’t even think of trying to change the subject.” He warned.

“Ok, I guess I can live with that as long as I still get to eat.” I replied.

He sighed and preceded with his long “speech”, “I know you’re sorry about leaving but listen, I don’t like those two. Lucas is okay, but Jeremy seems even worse than Lucas. I don’t know how to describe it, but I just know that Jeremy is bad. Lucas knows the same thing. He told me so after I had calmed down. After Edward snapped at him, he came to me. We both agree that you should stay away from Jeremy and-”

I cut him off, “Listen, I’m tired of hearing some of the shit you two make up about Jeremy. He is a really nice, caring, sensitive guy who actually seems to care about me. Unlike you and Lucas who just want me for yourselves. So, let’s say I stop being friends with Jeremy; you two would go back to fighting over me. Yes, I have known you longer, and if my life was not as weird as it normally is, then we might end up together, but I do not think that will happen with the way you have been acting lately.” And with that, I turned on my heel and walked towards Jeremy, who was waiting for me at the door to the cafeteria.

I sat down at Jeremy’s table feeling Lucas’s eyes burning into the back of my head. He was silently whispering warnings to me which I was sick of hear because none of his accusations were true.

“Hey Jeremy,” I whispered, “Can I ask you a question?”

“Anything” He whispered back.

I took a deep breath and asked the question that had been nagging me all day, “Did… did all that stuff really happen last night?”

I looked up and saw him staring at me with such positive emotion, only Jasper would be able to name it. He lowered his face so that his mouth was even with my ear and said, “Yes. It all happened. I wish we could go more often though, and I hope you liked it there.”

I nodded, and asked, “What’s it called?”

“Nympth” he said. He actually said it a little louder so others who were close enough might be able to hear what he said. His friends looked at him and nodded, apparently seeming to understand our whole conversation. Was everyone here on the same page except me, or was there more than one mind reading warlock in Forks?

I asked him if we could go back. I loved that beautiful place. He said we could and we agreed to meet on Sunday in the clearing where I first met him at eight. I knew Edward would be okay with me going out to meet Jeremy. He was fine with anything that did not involve torture, Alec, or Lucas.

The rest of the day was fine. Lucas tried to talk to me once, but I ignored him the whole time and pretended to call Edward in my mind to come and take care of him for me. He was frozen when he heard me start to call Edward. I was hard not to laugh at how pale he got. Lucas then apologized mentally for every single thing he could think of. That got annoying.

In math, Lucas sat next to me as usual, but neither of us spoke. One reason was for Edward watching us, and the other reason was because Jeremy sat on the other side of me and it was obvious that both of them were somewhat protective of me.

The bell finally rang. I grabbed my books and came into step with Edward.

Boy, am I glad to be out of there, I thought.

Where is Jasper when you need him? Edward thought back playfully with a kind smile. We walked over to our lockers and I began shoving books and papers into mine as Edward stood and waited. Even for having superhuman speed, Edward was still faster, and he used that speed only at the very end of the day.

I heard a low growl coming from him as I finished gathering all of the books for tonight’s homework assignments. I looked up to see Lucas walking towards us. He was smiling. What did he want now?

“Hi Liz, Edward” He said, only nodding at Edward and then going back to focus on me, “Umm, Liz, you forgot this back in math.” He held out one of my notebooks.

“Thanks.” I said sourly. He then turned and walked away.

We were in the car on the way home when I finally got the nerve to mentally ask Edward why he hated Lucas so much. I still kind of thought of us as friends.

Edward… can I ask you something? I thought timidly.

Of course you can, what is it? Hr thought back.

Well… I’m just kind of wondering why you hate Lucas so much. I asked. I saw his jaw tighten at the mention of Lucas’s name.

We’ll talk about this later. I want to really tell this to you.

Ok, but you better tell me soon or I’ll go and ask Esme or Carlisle.

I was up in my room and waiting. I was waiting for Edward to come in and tell me the story. I had told him that he have better tell me before eight of I will ask someone else. I heard a soft tap on my door. Come in. I thought. If it was Edward, he would hear me. He opened the door, closed it behind him, and sat in the old rocking chair.

I walked over and sat on the floor in front of him as if I was a little girl waiting to hear her favorite story.

He took a deep and unnecessary breath, and began, “It was nineteen fourty five when I first met Lucas. We had just rescued Emmet from the bear and I was still mad at Rosalie for bringing him to us. I left for a while because if that. I first met Lucas at an old inn. He had checked in as a permanent resident. I did not know he was a warlock then. I was pretending to be a guest there myself. We were able to spend a lot of time together, both pretending. We became good friends until, one day; I caught him practicing in his room. He was really quite good, although, what do you expect from someone who had been around since the fourteen hundreds. I was stunned and got caught watching. I smiled a huge smile, exposing my teeth. Lucas got really mad for no apparent reason.

“It was a few years later when we met up again. This time, Alice and Jasper were with us. It was raining one night when we heard a very familiar scream. It was Kathrin, one of our oldest friends, who was also a vampire. Lucas had cornered her, not knowing that she was a friend of ours, supposedly. He killed her when he caught her going into the woods after some humans. He could not have known that she was pretending to live with them. He also could not have known how much that hurt our family for she was one of our oldest and closest friends. That is why I hate him, but there is also another reason. I have been to their world where warlocks and witches rule over all other creatures. Our kind is frowned upon as some of the lowest on the ladder. For why, we do not know, but it disgusts me to see our people being treated like scum in that world.” He made a face and continued, “I have never seen him as a person since, just a snobby, upper-class, piece of shit who thinks that they know and are better than everything and everyone else. I just don’t want him to realize that you are a halfy and hurt you.”

“Dad, he knows. He knows that I’m a half-breed and he does not seem to care. I really think that he likes me, a lot. I like him too, but only as a friend. And I would somewhat appreciate it if you would try to be just a little bit nicer to him when I’m not screaming at him mentally for doing something stupid.” I explained.

“Ok, I can try, but I am not guaranteeing anything.” He agreed with a smile.

Thanks, I thought as I gave him a small kiss on his nose. He smiled and then left to go and do something.

I crawled into bed when I noticed that it was eleven and fell into a very peaceful sleep.
