“Bella, Bella are you in here? Can I come in?” asked Charlie?

I was sitting in the middle of my bed holding the phone. Edward and I had just hung up after deciding that I would stay there for the 3 more days of my vacation. We had talked all night and there were dark bags under my eyes from loss of sleep. Today was going to be horrible.

“Yeah Charlie, come in,” I answered trying to push down the lump that was still in my throat.

He slowly opened the door and seeing my condition, blushed bright red.

“Oh Bella, oh my baby,” and he ran to me and awkwardly held me in my arms, rocking me back and forth like I was an injured child. That did it, the lump escaped and sobs escaped my body as tears poured down my face. I was a murderer.

“Oh sweetheart I’m so sorry, so sorry….”

“Daddy,” I whimpered, his whole shoulder was wet from my tears.

A few minutes had passed when I finally got up.

“Want to go to the beach?” I asked, wiping away my tears with my sweater.

“Are you sure you want to?”

“Of course, I don’t want to ruin your vacation.”

“Oh it won’t ruin my vacation if we take one day off.”

“I want to go,” I said, my voice getting stronger with each word.

“OK, get your bathing suit on.

Down on the beach I lay in the warm sun, soaking up the heat. I warmed my whole inside and for awhile I forgot about everything, Forks, the Cullens, Jacob, even Edward. My mind wandered back to 4 years ago, on a hot day in Phoenix, Renée and I laid out mats on the concrete, put on our swim suits and just lay in the sun, soaking up the warmth.

“Hey bells, you wanna go swimming?” Charlie asked, bring me back to the present day, all my memories came flooding back to me, and I felt a tear rip in my stomach.

“Sure dad.”

As I got down to the water I freaked out. An image of Alex’s dead body floating in the water flashed across my mind giving me a whole new pain. I started hyperventilating and the next thing I knew, I was staring up at the great blue sky above my head, then I was swung up into a man I didn’t knows arms and was being carried to Charlie’s car.

“I think she feinted, you should bring her in, just to make sure she’s ok,” said the man who I named hot lifeguard because of the LIFEGUARD printed on his shirt.

‘OK, sure, thank you so much,” answered Charlie, his voice shaking somewhat, “Bells, you OK?”

“Yes,” I answered, than drifted into a deep sleep.

When I woke up I was in a white hospital bed, the green curtains around it were drawn and Charlie lay sleeping in the corner chair, he was frowning and was still wearing his swim shorts and shirt.

“Dad,” I whispered and he opened his eyes slowly, letting out a loud yawn he said, “Whoa, wait, how long was I out?”

“I don’t know I just got up.”

“Oh lets get out of here.”

“Umm, should we let the nurse know?”

No, you just feinted.”

Then we both got up and secretly walked out of the hospital.

“Bells, I’m in the mood for ice cream. You want one?”

“Sure!”
