It was the night of my first ball. To say I was freaking out, yeah, that would be an understatement, but wouldn’t you be, if you were me? If you were about to meet the love of your, well not life, existence and his wife, would you not be nervous in the extreme?
For tonight, I had blocked everyone from any one else’s power, everyone being all of the Volturi. I wasn’t going to turn off the guests just yet, I didn’t want to it just yet for some reasons I’m going to keep to myself.
As for Jane, Aro, Marcus and Caius were avoiding her because of what she’d done to them when she came back. We knew she was going to be angry, but not that angry! It was actually scary and I regretted making her power stronger because it hadn’t worn off when she came back.
I had, though, enhanced everyone’s abilities for tonight, just in case a problem were to arise. I would probably do that every night.
I needed one quick word with Aro and Marcus before I got into my dress and got my make up done.
“Aro, Marcus!” I called, knowing they’d hear me, no matter where they were.
Pretty soon, they were running towards me, obviously scared something had happened to their only sister.
“What’s wrong Bella?” Marcus asked in an urgent voice.
“Nothing, I just need to discuss something with you.”
“Okay, we’re listening.” Aro informed me.
“Well, I know you guys won’t like this, but its for the best.”
“See, for tonight, and the rest of these ten days, I’ll . . . well . . . . I’ll be turning off your powers.” Okay, brace yourself for the anger.
“What?! Bella, we need our powers, something could happen!”
“I know! Bella, you can’t!”
“Look, what happened to not getting angry at me?” I asked them. They grinned, sheepishly. “I know you don’t like this, but there’s a reason why I’m doing it. That reason will become apparent. I’ll tell you after the balls, okay?”
“Deal.” They sighed in unison.
Oh my God! Bella looked AMAZING! I mean, obviously she always looked amazing-she was extraordinarily beautiful, even for a vampire, but she looked even better than she usually did at the moment!
She was wearing a blood red dress, with a neckline which plunged to her waist, where it flared out with a flowing train. On anyone else, it would look sluttish, but on Bella, she just looked amazing! For footwear, she wore four inch heels with a pencil thin heel, that had been dyed the exact shade of her dress.
Her long waist-length hair had been curled loosely and part of it was put up, the other bit flowing down her back. Her make up, I had to say, though it was done my me, was absolutely awesome!
Altogether, she looked like an enchantress.
“Thanks Jane,” she thanked me, obviously having listened to my thoughts.
I knew Bella was under a lot of stress, nerves, annoyance, anger, honestly the list could go on for a while. I mean, she had loved Edward with a passion, and yet after she died he just went out and married another woman.
“Jane.” She said sternly, as an old teacher would tell a naughty pupil. “I told you that it wasn’t as it seems.”
Just then, Heidi came in. “Princess, all the guests are here, looking forward to meeting the supposed ‘mythical Princess’. Its quite funny how they all think that, isn’t it, when here you’ve been, all these years!”
We both liked Heidi. She was kind, sort of like our sister, or our mother. Here in Volterra, we were really one big family, though it might not have seemed like it, back when we drank from humans, but now, thanks to Bella, we had learnt the error of our ways, and drank from humans instead.
“Anyway,” Heidi continued, “they’re all here. You should go down now. The Cullen’s’ are there too, remember you can just give the order and we’ll kill them. Feel free to do so.” Bella glared. “Alright, alright, obviously not. Just go, do your grand entrance, me and Jane will be behind you, seeing as we’ve been arranged as your guards, unless you tell us to leave because you want to engage in a private conversation-““Heidi, I know what is happening, so does Jane.” And with that, Bella walked out, the only noise being her heels hitting against the hard floor.
