“This is where I’ll leave you.” spoke his musical voice into the night air. He gave his creation one last hug before leaving her to embrace her new life. She watched as his tall shadow melted into the dark Italian sky. Finally, a story staring Marcus of the Volturi as the main (and happy) character! NOT OOC! FINAL CHAPTER UP! Warning: may contain spoilers for Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse. Disclaimer: I'm not Stephanie Meyer and therefore don't own the books. It was time. The nightmare was about to become reality. In just a few short minutes, Rex and his followers would show up in the clearing. Alice was trying hard to see the future, but could only see bits and pieces of the battle because of Rex’s power. From what she saw, they knew that there would be five vampires to go up against, and they all had extraordinary powers. Edward tensed where he stood. “They’re almost here. I can hear them, but Rex isn’t close enough yet to affect our abilities.” He stared off into space, focusing on their thoughts. “Are you sure that you’re ready Eve?” Marcus asked from besides her. He knew that this new power was hard for her to control, and she couldn’t afford to mess up now. “I don’t have much of a choice. But yes, I’m ready.” She smiled sadly at her lover. “Here they come, get ready Eve.” Edward supplied as a heads up. Marcus and Emmett stood in front of her for protection as she focused all of her energy onto turning off Rex’s power. The five opponents gathered into the clearing. “At last we meet.” Rex greeted grimly. A number of things happened next within seconds. Rex’s eyes grew large with fear when he recognized Evangelina. The four behind him, two males and two females, stepped forward and shrunk into a battle stance. One of his female followers smiled wickedly at Marcus. And last but not least, Marcus took a hesitant step forward, leaving Eve’s right end exposed. “Marcus, you seem a bit shocked. May I ask what’s the matter?” questioned Rex sarcastically. The others snickered behind him. Marcus was staring, dumbstruck, at the wickedly smiling female. “Ebony?” His voice cracked with an ancient pain. “Oh, Marcus. You didn’t really believe that I died, did you?” replied the woman vampire with the jet black hair. A cruel laugh cracked through her lips when she saw the evident suffering on Marcus’s face. “But…he…you. Why, Ebony?” If he could have cried, Marcus would have drowned them all with his tears. How could this be? He thought to himself. “Why?” she laughed. “Did you honestly believe, all that time, that I loved you? I thought you could see other’s relationships?” He had seen it, all those years ago, he’d witnessed her slowly slipping away from him. He just never cared to believe it, he’d loved her too much for that to be true. And of course, whenever Rex was around, he couldn’t see her apparent love for him. Right now, however, her love for him was shining brightly, and stabbing Marcus in the heart at the same time. One of Rex’s male followers cleared his throat, recapturing everyone’s attention. “Aren’t we supposed to be fighting?” he complained. “Donar is right, let’s get back to the present shall we?” suggested Rex. Marcus returned to guarding Eve, but he remained unfocused and traumatized. “Aiden, Shiva, you know what to do.” Rex nodded in the other two’s direction. The female, Shiva, grinned evilly at his order. Her twin brother, on the other hand, seemed rather reluctant to fight at all. The Cullens and Marcus stepped forward, standing a few feet in from of their rivals while Eve stood back, focused on keeping Rex from getting the upper hand. From what she could tell, he didn’t know that she had the ability to turn off his power. Yet. Within seconds the two sides were clashing together. Emmett was against Donar, the controller of lightning and thunder. Jasper and Edward fought against Shiva, the controller of ice, and her twin Aiden, the controller of fire. Marcus fought viciously against Rex. This left Eve to face the only person that she’d ever truly feared, Marcus’s old mate, Ebony. Ebony crouched down, ready to pounce, but was intercepted by a large reddish brown wolf. Never had Eve been so overjoyed to see Jacob before. With the extra protection from Jacob, Embry, and Quil, Eve was able to focus better on the task at hand. She managed to turn off all four of their powers, seeing as Ebony had none, and keep them like that with a bearable amount of effort. With their powers abruptly shut off, the battle was quickly beginning to favor the Cullen’s side. A loud scream was heard when Emmett ripped Donar limb from limb. The white chunks of stone fell unceremoniously to the ground. “Rex! Help!” screamed Shiva in horror. Her confident smile was replaced by fear and terror as Edward closed in on her. “Ice him, you moron!” Rex called back. “I can’t! Something’s wrong!” “What do you mean ‘something’s wrong’?” he asked in disbelief. Then, it all clicked into place as he glared at Eve. “You! I knew it!” He charged at her, Marcus quick on his heals. All three werewolves had their hands full with Ebony. A sickening crack reverberated through the trees as Ebony crushed both Embry and Quil with her inhuman strength, leaving Jacob behind to tend to them as she attacked Marcus. With Marcus out of the way and the rest of the Cullens busy, Eve tensed for Rex’s impact. Cold iron arms wrapped around her body, squeezing her. The thing that surprised her was that their squeeze was friendly, not dangerous. Rex was hugging her, not trying to kill her. What’s going on? Eve thought. “Eve, don’t!” Edward warned, reading Rex’s plan before hand. But it was too late. In her confusion, Eve had lost control over the other’s powers. Fire raged and ice showered down on them as Eve and Rex mentally battled for control. The Cullens and Marcus lost all of the ground that they’d gained in a second. Shiva easily fought against both Edward and Jasper. Donar had pieced himself back together by now and towered over Emmett. Marcus was stuck battling against Aiden and Ebony. His shock over her from before had now turned into rage. “Aiden! Come here now!” Rex called, still fighting to over power Eve. She was beginning to tire and he could tell that she would easily be eliminated with a little help. This is it, thought Eve, I’m going to fail and they’re all going to die. Unless… It was a long shot, but it was also her last hope. Aiden made his way over reluctantly. His red hair mimicked the fire that swarmed around his hands. “Finish her off!” Rex commanded. Eve looked at him, pleading him with her eyes. “Aiden, I know you aren’t like them. You don’t fit in, I can tell. And you don’t have to. There are other choices! Please, don’t do this!” she begged him. His eyes hardened the fire that he wielded now engulfed both of his arms. It didn’t work, Eve thought in defeat. But she was wrong. Aiden’s black eyes turned towards Rex and he attacked his leader. Due to Rex’s shock, he was easily killed and burnt by Aiden’s fire. Everything went silent then. All the fighting ceased. Donar was the first to try and run, but was stopped and killed effortlessly. Shiva stared unbelievingly at her twin and what he’d just done, before surrendering. Ebony dashed over to Rex’s ashes, her eyes glazing over with pain, then fierce anger. She made one last attempt to lunge at Aiden but was stopped mid-lunge and crumpled to the ground in pain. Marcus stepped forward to kill her while she lay defenseless in the grass. “No, don’t.” Eve stopped him and he looked at her with pure confusion. “Why shouldn’t I kill her? Give me one good reason.” “Why should she get the easy way out? For allowing you to suffer like you did all those years!? Two thousand years of pain! Killing her wouldn’t be even close to the punishment she deserves. The only true way to punish a creature like her is to allow her to live.” With that said, Eve fainted into the comfort of her love’s arms.
