“We have more to our coven-five more, but they are still hunting. You two will meet them later.”

There was silence following the proclamation of these news. I gulped nervously and sunk once again to my knees, for I had stood up. What did he mean that there were five more in their coven? Was I in danger?

I opened my mouth to ask these questions but instead an entirely different one popped out. “Why did you change us?” I queried curiously looking at both boys at once. Johnny shuffled his feet but Dally just looked straight at me.

“Because we, well actually I-“Johnny started but when he saw Johnny’s face he stopped.

“You will find that out later. I hear the rest. They must be done hunting. Johnnycake would you mind going and explaining to them since you were the one who insisted on both?” Dally asked an agreeable Johnny who instantly stepped outside to meet the five approaching vampires that I could just barely hear.

I heard voices and could have listened, but I didn’t. I didn’t move. How was my new coven going to react about me? They were my coven…right? I shuddered and leaned towards Jake who was shivering beside me. Unthinking, I wrapped my arms around him and he squirmed next to me. He placed his marble head on my shoulder and I reached up to stroke his hair when I realized something.

Whenever I touched Johnny or Dally, they were cold. For some reason, Jake was hot, burning hot! I quickly pulled my arms away from him and jumped to the other side of the cave at the same time that he did.

“Why are you so cold?” He asked me as I tried to calm myself. In my peripheral vision, I could see Dally looking at us with a confused look on his face.

“Why are you so hot? You nearly burnt my hand!” I screamed at him as I backed away even farther, hitting the wall of the cave.

Dally stepped towards Jake and swiftly touched his arm. Immediately, he took it off and brought it to his chest. HA! So it hurt him too.

Dally started towards me, but I dropped down, growling. “Just let me touch your hand. I promise that it won’t hurt.” For some reason, I trusted this creature just enough to stick out my left hand. He gently touched it and he didn’t move it away suddenly. Instead, he stood with my hand in his hand, just looking at my face.

Outside, the footsteps were getting closer and closer, but the talking didn’t cease. Suddenly, a boy with long brownish hair shot threw the cave opening. He did a series of flips and ended neatly on his feet. Five other boys, including Johnny came through after him, each doing a different type of gymnastic move.

At the same time, three boys started talking.

“So, this is the girl Johnny?” One of the boys stepped forward as he pointed to me.

“You won’t believe what we found! You won’t believe what’s coming here later!” Another boy shouted.

Dally also stepped forward. “You won’t believe what we just discovered.”
