I was engaged! It sounded like a swear word to me, but I couldn’t complain about the results that were to follow. I loved Edward more than life itself, and he knew it. I would die for him. I would be immortal as a vampire, as his wife. I wanted to spend the rest of eternity with the most perfect boy on the face of the earth. But of course, he had his own list of things to do before he would change me into a vampire. We had to get married. Edward wanted me to himself, no one else. CHAPTER 16 Will be up soon! “When did it happen?”
As I got out of the car, I watched Alice’s perfect features turn into a scowl. This wasn’t the first thing she had wanted to discuss when we arrived, I could tell that. Alice’s golden eyes darkened as she looked up at Edward, the pair making me feel nervous with the explosion of fire that seemed to be erupting from their glance. I was obviously missing something in the translation of vampire powers. I hated being left out like this. If only Edward could read my mind and then I wouldn’t have to embarrass myself with my incessant rambling.
“Twenty minutes ago, but that’s not important,” Alice said after a moment, taking my arm. A large smile was forming out of her perfectly white teeth. Alice seemed to be practically dancing as she stood next to me. “I’ve got important news for Bella!”
My mouth was suddenly agape when Alice’s words sunk into my head. She was excited about something, and that scared me. Recently, when Alice got excited like this, it meant that I was going to have to say no to some extravagant wedding plan. I didn’t like having to put her down, but some of her ideas were just too over the top for me. I was a plan-Jane when it came to the wedding. I didn’t want anything big. To me, the most important thing was Edward, and as long as I had him in the end, I was happy.
“We’re not getting those statues, Alice!” I said, turning to Edward for support on this one. It was then that I noticed how dark his topaz orbs had turned as he glared at Alice. He wasn’t happy about something as he walked to my side, his arm snaked around me. I was worried. I knew I could possibly distract him if Alice wasn’t holding my arm, but I would have to save that for later. “I don’t care if you saw them in a vision.”
“That isn’t it, silly,” Alice giggled, starting to tow me along. Edward held me tighter, as if he were afraid to let go of me. Alice, however, hadn’t noticed that I wasn’t moving. I just hoped that I wouldn’t be split in half by the two vampires. “It’s much better! You’ll be so excited!” She said, dancing in her place as she tried to move me.
“Alice,” Edward said firmly. This caused me to turn and look up at him as it was very rare when I heard him use that particular tone. It was then that I was aware of a fear that he was building inside his mind. I wondered how he was able to think in so many different ways, maybe one day I would find out. “Does Carlisle know? We need to prepare for this and tell them the rules. Bella cannot be here when they arrive. I don’t want her to be in danger!”
“Stop worrying, Edward,” Alice retorted with a role of her eyes. “Everything is going to be fine, and they know our rules. They just wanted to come and wish you luck. They’re interested because they’ve never heard of something like this happening before. You can’t blame them for wanting to meet her!”
“Who wants to meet me?” I asked still confused. It was obvious to me that Edward was worried about these incoming visitors but Alice seemed to be certain that he was overreacting. I wasn’t sure who’s story to follow. I had missed something in the conversation as Edward was digging information out of Alice’s mind. I did, however, figure out that they were talking about Vampires. I wondered if the members of the Denali family were coming down to visit. Why would Edward be worried about that? They followed the same lifestyle the Cullens did.
“No one,” Edward interrupted as Alice opened her mouth to say something. “Because Bella wont be here to meet them,” he said through his teeth. I hadn’t realized that his jaws was clenched. “Not with the newborn that is traveling with them.”
Alice groaned next to me. Edward must have been holding up the wedding planning that she had been looking forward to. For me, I was thankful for this little distraction. How much more could there possibly be left to do? I thought that we had gone through everything imaginable. I must have been wrong though.
It was then that I realized Edward had said newborn. I froze where I was, forgetting to breath. I knew exactly how newborns acted after Riley. I was frightened, but I knew that Edward and the Cullens wouldn’t let anything happen to me. They were like my own flock of superheroes, even if they didn’t like to admit it.
“Bella?” Edward whispered in my ear, noticing my tense persona. His eyes were concerned as they met mine. However, Alice didn’t notice this as she continued.
“Oh, Edward,” Alice sighed, shaking her head at him. “You worry too much, and Kylie can hardly be considered a newborn. She’s six years old! They wont be here long as they are only stopping by on the way to the Denali’s. Robert and Mel just wanted to meet Bella. They are trying to change their ways, and you don’t have anything to worry about.”
Edward made a growling sound from the back of his throat. I felt it purr lightly in his chest, the noise shaking my body lightly. Edward had a death grip around my waist.
“I don’t care,” he hissed, his tone shocking me slightly. “I don’t want to take any chances and they haven’t fully committed to our lifestyle yet.” Edward’s eyes were almost black as I looked up at him. I could tell that he wasn’t happy in the slightest. I wanted to say something to him to make that golden color that I loved so much come back into his eyes. Except, I knew I couldn’t do anything to help him.
Alice groaned again giving my arm another light tug. It was this time that she noticed that I seemed to be stuck in Edwards grasp. “Come on, Edward!” Alice whined. “Carlisle’s not worried so there is no need for you to be. He trusts them.”
“Carlisle is too trusting at times,” Edward retorted darkly. This made me think back to the times of Laurent, James, and Victoria. I shuddered at the thought, still frightened to think that they could somehow get me from the dead. Everything else seemed to have happened, why not have vampires spring back to life? However, even I knew that was impossible. Alice must have been thinking about that particular event too, as it was just that I noticed the corner of her lips pull down. Edward was ruining her chipper mood. “Even you cant deny that, Alice.”
Alice let out a sigh as she rolled her eyes. “Edward, just relax, everything thing is going to be fine. If worse comes to worse, we’ll lock Bella in a glass box so they can’t smell her,” Alice teased. Edward let out a low hiss, letting us know that he didn’t find it at all amusing.
“No,” he said firmly. “I will take Bella to the city that weekend. That way we wont have any mishaps before the wedding.”
“That will defeat the entire purpose of them coming,” Alice retorted, her brows furred now. I watched with interest as the two bickered. I had never seen them go at it like this before, and it was interlining. It was almost like watching one of Renee’s favorite soap operas. I laughed to myself at the thought; it went unnoticed.
“And besides, they’re only 50 miles away,” Alice said smugly. “You wont have time to get her things, let alone leave the house. It looks like Bella is meeting the Conners!” Alice was practically dancing as she tried to tow me away again. However, I was trapped in Edwards embrace and that didn’t bother me. I knew that Edward was afraid to let me go because the danger I always attracted.
Edward let out another low growl. I could tell that he was trying to think of a way to get me away so that I wouldn’t be in danger. “Get in the car,” he said suddenly. The tone of his voice was dangerous.
“Edward,” I said, looking between him in Alice as he practically picked me up off my feet. “I’m sure it will be fine, and I’ll be with Alice, planning the wedding. They’ll hardly see me. There is no need to--”
“Bella, please, just listen to what I’m saying,” Edward said to me, ignoring Alice’s protests in the background. “Trust me, I know what I’m talking about.”
“Come on, Edward, you’re getting married in two weeks and we haven’t finished the planning. We don’t have time for one of your extended vacations!” Alice protested. “You can even sit in the room to protect her if you think that is going to make you feel better.”
“I promise I will be careful,” I said. I was actually more nervous about the announcement that Alice had put off telling me than actually meeting the Conners.
I watched as the brother and sister glared at each other. They were obviously having a mental confrontation that I wasn’t invited into. As Edward read Alice’s thoughts, he either shook his head or grunted something to the effect of ‘that will never work’.
“Edward,” Alice whined after a minute. Her golden eyes were dark as I ripped my eyes away from Edward’s face for the first time in minutes. “We will protect her! What are seven vampires against three? And with Emmett and Jasper? Honestly, you think you retorted your age back to your diaper years sometimes. You worry too much. Come on, Bella! I’ve got some big news!” Alice was dancing again. I looked back up at Edward as he reluctantly let go of my waist. I could tell that he was dead set against this idea.
And an overreaction to things was an understatement for Edward. I wasn’t exactly sure how the angel’s mind worked but I could tell that he was thinking things through at a much faster pace than anyone I had ever known. Edward was known for this fact alone. I remembered back to last year when he had left me because of one of his overreactions. That thought hurt me. I hoped to be able to tame his overzealousness when I turned. Hopefully I would be given a power to help make him relax.
I stood up on my tip-toes and placed a soft kiss on his marble lips before I let Alice tow me into the house. His eyes were dark and distant as I left him. The last thing he did before I walked away was squeeze my hand. This seemed like a bad omen to me.
As Alice practically dragged me into the house and up to her room, I looked around to see Rosalie and Emmett in the garage as we passed. Rosalie’s perfect legs were the only part of her body that could be seen from under her convertible.
“You’re going to be so excited,” Alice practically sang as she dragged me past Jasper. I didn’t miss his little chuckle as I walked by with a pleading look on my face. He thought it was funny. The look on Jasper’s face told me that Alice had already informed everyone except me about this so called ‘great news’.
It was another few moments before I found myself locked in Alice’s large room. It was perfectly spotless and decorated with the most recent furniture and art work. To me, the room matched Alice’s personality perfectly. I wondered how Jasper felt about this. It didn’t look like something that he would particularly enjoy. However, I knew that Alice could be very persuasive.
“Sit down, Bella!” Alice sang, dancing in her spot. She let out a light squeak of excitement that frightened me to no ends. This news couldn’t be all that great for me, I could feel it.
I slowly sat down on the extremely soft bed that was used for a prop more than anything else. “What’s my poison?” I asked slowly, looking cautious. I thought that I might live better not knowing what this ‘big’ news was.
“Okay,” Alice said, taking in a deep breath. “Renee is coming early to help with the wedding preparations! She’ll be here in two days!” She chirped.
I suddenly felt my face go paper white. Renee couldn’t come early and help out. She would be trying to talk me out of my decision the entire time and I didn’t want that doubt in my mind. I was perfectly sure what I wanted and I didn’t need the added stress.
“Of course she will be staying here! We only have like six extra rooms in the house!” Alice said, walking toward the closet.
No, Renee couldn’t stay in a house of vampires! That she would surly find out that there was something different about the Cullens. My mother couldn’t find out that my fiancée was a vampire and that I was planning to be one too. I couldn’t breath, the air stuck in my chest. I hurt to try and breathe. I was suddenly gasping for air.
“Bella?” Alice questioned just as I heard voices from down stairs.
I didn’t have time to figure out what I was going to do about Renee right then. I suddenly realized that I had more important things on my hand. I had to deal with the three new vampires that had just entered the Cullen’s home.
