"Good morning," Jane smirked at me and I smiled.

Jane was so amazing.

Something inside me fought against me, but I ignored it.

"Good morning, Jane," I sang, my voice sounding . . . different . . .? Well I couldn't remember what it had been like . . . I couldn't remember anything except Jane was wonderful and I was a vampire.

The smirk fell from Jane's face and she gave a tinkling laugh.

"I almost forgot, Lizzie. I'm sorry, apparently old habits die hard," She said kindly.

I had no idea what she was talking about, but I laughed anyways.

We were in a car with heavily tinted windows, and Jane was drumming her fingers on the armrest.

"What on Earth are you talking about Jane?" I asked, still rubbing my hard skin that faintly burned from the fire.

Her fingers stopped the drumming, and she stiffened the slightest.

"You can't remember anything, from the shock I suppose....." Jane mused, but the thing inside me fought inside me, telling me she was lying. I battled with it until it sank away into the back of my mind.

"The shock?"

"Yes, of your family's death. Quite sad."

Jane didn't show any emotion.

"My family?" I tilted my head, wondering if it was better that I didn't remember them, I supposed it masked the pain.

Jane nodded silently, refusing to expand.

"How did I meet you Jane?"

She ignored me, hissing to the front seat, "Cne! If you want to be kept, you WILL do your job."

She turned back to me.

"Your transformation isn't complete, you just don't remember what living WITHOUT pain was like, so it doesn't affect you . . ." She trailed off.

"I wonder what would happen....." She smiled, almost sinistrely at me, and I stared back, confused.

"Very interesting," She murmured, and the look of concentration I hadn't noticed before, vanished.

I felt strange suddenly, as if my mind was being wiped blank.

I fought, shaking my head, needing one question answered.

Jane watched me with a guarded expression.

"Who died?" I demanded, and she shrugged.

"The Cullens. Now, you need to let your mind float," Jane commanded and I nodded, slightly bemused.

I let my mind float and something sprang up in it, making my hair glow white.

Before I saw my eyes I saw Jane frown and, "This is going to be harder than we thought."

The Cullens were dead.

Then my mind was wiped blank, besides a few things that were strong enough to resist.

The Cullens were dead.

More blankness.

I felt like I was being shocked, over and over again, but that one thing stuck.

The Cullens were dead.

I didn't know why it affected me, but my hair changed again before I drifted.

A watery gray and blue slid in front of my eyes.

And I felt despair.
