I stood up, and the brunette on the ground disappeared.

"Where is she?!" The other brown-haired girl cried, trying to step forward but the man held her back.

"I don't like being outnumbered."

I made the man disappear, the the short brunette, and then faced the blonde.

"Now we can talk, and you can explain which one is killing, and they will be the only one to deal with the consequences," I said nonchalantly, and though the blonde bristled, she was smarter than to attack.

"No one in my coven is killing," And then she paused, a confused expression on her face, "But neither are you."

I blinked.

"You eyes," she murmured, stepping closer.

I raised my eyebrows at her and took a deliberate step back. I don't know what she would make of my brown contacts.

"What are you?" Her eyes were wide.

"The same as you."

"No, that isn't true."

"Sorry, but it is."

She stood there watching me with a guarded expression.

"Where are they?" her anger flared and her voice was almost a growl.

"I don't know. I've never quite figured that out. They are safe though, I can assure you,"I replied, a little taken aback she would talk to a member of the Volturi like this. But then again, she might not know who I was.

"And you expect me to be assured by YOU?!" she snarled.

No, she definitely didn't know who I was.

"Are you aware of who you are talking to?"

"I don't really care. I just you to know that if I don't get my coven back . . ." she trailed off, her threat left open ended.

"You are going to threaten a member of the Volturi? The most POWERFUL member of the Volturi?"

Her eyes widened and she looked taken aback. "The Volturi would not send their leader to deal with one newborn."

"No," I agreed, "They would not. Jane is leader, but I am the most powerful."

"Who are you?"

I didn't respond.

"I suppose I can have my coven back? The most powerful member of the Volturi shouldn't worry," her voice seemed innocent but I felt like I was being taunted.

They all appeared, and almost fell to the ground. Being vampires, they righted themselves quickly.

"Volturi," The blonde said out of the side of her mouth.

She turned back to me.

"I'm Tanya, that's Kate," the brunette I had pounced on nodded,"Elezar and Carmen," Tanya introduced her clan.

"Irina is at home. We like to keep at least one there in case of the newborn," She continued. Did I imagine the regret in her voice?

"Do you have any idea who is behind the attacks?"

"No, we've only caught scent of them. But I suppose that could help you, with all these vampires running around," she said, a bit nervously.

"I won't be long," I told her in a monotone, but I realized something," But I'm sure I can just take in your family's scents and track the other vampire, as long as it wasn't one of your FIVE scents," My voice was sharp.

I could tell I was getting somewhere from the uneasy looks they gave each other.

"Five is a pretty big family," I added and watched the stress rise.

"Yes, but not as big ---" Tanya cut off, and I could see her mentally kicking herself.

I prowled closer to the group.

"Not as big as what?"

"An old family we once knew."

Was I imagining the stress she gave the word 'once'?

"By family, you mean coven."

I had hit the mark.

"Yes, but they are gone now."

"Who is gone?"

"The," she paused, collecting her face, as did the others, "Cullens."

"Very interesting."

"Yes, I suppose."

She had no idea how VERY INTERESTING that news was to me.
