His Eyes

I looked into his eyes and saw it
It was there all along undetected
I knew I could not compare to his wit
I finally saw it resurrected
Though he knew it all along he denied
It was there waiting to come back to life
Every time I brought it up he just sighed
Until we were wed then there was no strife
Both he and I knew that he had a soul
It just had to be sought after deep down
Although he thought it was as black as coal
Because of the monster that caused that sound
That made all of us cringe back like a snake
Just to see him by my beautiful lake
