Internally I moaned at the prospect of having to endure any length of companionship with Edward, but I was too grateful to the Cullen family for what they had done for me that I did not protest outwardly to Alice’s suggestion.

I prayed that Edward would weasel his way out of this arrangement, considering he loathed my presence more then I disdained his. I glanced at him hoping that my prayer had been heard and answered, but the look of pain and submission upon his features cracked that hope into mere crumbs of dust. His hands flew over his ears. “Fine, just stop bugging me.” He turned and all but fled from the confines of the house.

Perplexed I stared after him before I restored my composure. “Thank you.” I smiled at the rest of the family, “for everything.”

I quietly walked out of the house, before sprinting towards Edward, who stood on the edge of the back lawn where the trees began to grow thick and looming. As soon as the gap of space began to close between us, he turned and continued his run into the woods. I grumbled under my breath as I pushed myself till I was running side to side with the arrogant bastard rather then following his lead.

After we were a great distance from the house, his pained expression turned into a grimace. He stopped running and stood there, one hand running through his hair as the other pinched the bridge of his nose, obviously trying to relax. For how proper I was raised, and how strong my moral sense of character was, there was something about this man or rather boy that made the worst parts of me come out and play in the sunshine.

“What has your balls in a vice?” I asked him, ashamed at my own use of the English language, but not enough to actually regret uttering the words. It was becoming all to obvious that MTV and the general living trash that I fed off of was beginning to affect my vocabulary. Truthfully though, his melodramatic act was scratching on my last nerve.

“Excuse me?” He turned to me, a look between shock and annoyance glancing over his features.

“What is your problem? You ran out of there like a bat out of hell.” Never before had I been so bold, and even though I stuttered slightly through these lines, I was shocked and had no idea where my unadulterated confidence had sprung up from.

“It was just what they were talking about.” He murmured.

Perhaps insanity was a trait that could be found in vampires. “No one in there spoke a single word.”

He snorted and pressed a single finger to his temple. “I can read minds.”

A thousand and one words ran through my mind, many of them I would not have been able to utter without blushing furiously if I had been human. He had heard everything little thing I had thought about him and I could not deny the fact, so I might as well face it.

I straightened my posture. “Well, I do not apologize for a single thought I have had about you, nor do I deny my low opinion of you. I thought it once so I might as well say it also. You sir, are an arrogant, self centered, rude, uncouth creature who, even though there is no question of his parentage and I loved his mother dearly with my heart, I can only describe in a single word as a bastard.”

Edward’s face turned from annoyance to complete and unreserved shock upon my utterance. If I had not known better I would have considered the emotions in his eyes a reflection of hurt or pain, but he already had known my mind since he simply had to read it. His voice was low and thick when he seemed to regain the ability to utter speech.

“I had not been able to read your mind, but I want to thank you ever so much for your opinion of me.” His tone was dark and barely controlled, as if he was fighting the wild violence that seemed to be his soul.

My eyes opened wide, and my reserved bashfulness returned as I realized I had openly insinuated that I though the man in front of me was no more decent then a cut throat and murderer. “Oh God, I am truly story, I did not mean…”

Edward cut me off by holding up his hand. “No, I always like to hear someone’s honest opinion of me. Though if we are pointing fingers here; I do have a few words of my own to describe you,” He paused, searching for the perfect words. I braced my self for his verbal onslaught. “You are a soulless, heartless monster, who probably only knew my mother by reputation, since he never associated herself with trash.”

“You have no right you vulgar egotistical boy!” I said the boy part hard, meaning to make him feel little.

“Bitch.” He snarled, his white teeth glaring at me.

I all, but spat at him, anger and fury twisting together within me. I needed to hit something, and I was normally a nonviolent person. I placed my hands on his shoulders and pushed, causing him to stagger backwards.

He growled surging forward towards, I was ready to block his attack, but what he did I would never have expected. Edward lunged for me, pressing my back into a tree, his hands roughly groping at my sides, his lips pressed against mine.

Edward Cullen was kissing me.
