Jeremy and I stared at out new house. Great, just peachy. Two bedrooms, two and a half bath house. I couldn’t believe mom would do this! Why would she do this? Papa wasn’t living here anymore, why would we keep the house? I did not understand my mother anymore…not after dad died. Ugh.

“Al come on, could you maybe help me?” Jeremy, my twin brother, was lugging our baseball stuff into the house.

Truth be told, I didn’t want to help. I’m a nice person, but bringing our treasure (baseball stuff) into a new house meant we would never go home. We would stay in Forks, the Minuscule Town of America.

“Jeremy I hate it here. How could you put our treasure into the house like this? I thought you wanted to stay in Jacksonville!”

“I did want to stay in Jacksonville, Al, I did. But we have to move on with our lives. Forks is our home now, whether we like it or not. And I don’t want to deal with mom right now.” He went into the house taking the only connection to home we had with him.

“Alice Ann McCleary, help your brother please.” Mom was yelling to me from the top window of the house.

“FINE! But I am not, will not, and cannot enjoy this stupid little town!” I grabbed my bat, glove, and special red ball dad gave me out of the van. That’s when I saw him.

He looked around my age, sixteen or older, had wavy bronze hair, built, and his eyes were…gold. To say the least he was good looking. Then it happened…he came over to me and stared.

“My name is Edward Cullen,” he said eyeing me.

“Oh, hi. I’m Alice McCleary….uh, call me Al.”

“Al,” he seemed to mull over the name, “do you live here?”

“No. Yes. Sort of. Almost…” now I was babbling, “We’re just settling in. My papa is in La Push…he’s had strokes and heart attacks, so we moved up here. My mom is living here for the time being…it’s her old house.”

“Your grandfather, is he Charlie Swan?”

“Yeah, you knew him?”

“Yes, he’s good friends with my family.”

“Oh.” I had no idea what to say, “Would you like to come in? We’re just loading everything into the house but…” I was at a loss for words.

“Oh,” he seemed surprised; “I really shouldn’t but I can help you carry some things in.” he smiled crookedly.

“Oh, yeah, okay, go right ah, ahead.” He grabbed some boxes and carried them into the house. He was nice, attractive and nice. But something was off about him…something just wasn’t right.

Edward POV:

My days for sixteen years have been filled with agony and darkness. My family has seen it, I have seen it, and everyone knows it. My angel is gone. All because my cursed vampire thirst! If only I set more boundaries, made more rules, she may still be here with me. At least Bella was happy, I hope. I only ever wanted to keep her safe, now she’s gone. How I wish she were with me.

I went for a walk down by Charlie’s house. He’s been ill for months now. No one seems to care for the poor old man. Maybe checking in on him wouldn’t be a bad idea.

But it was.

That’s when I saw her. Bella. It had to be her…

She looked just like her. Her long brunette hair landed at her waist, her big brown eyes scanned her surroundings. Odd though, that there was something different…confidence, this girl had just tad more confidence than Bella ever had, but I could tell not much more. But it couldn’t be her. It’s been sixteen years. But it is her. I have to talk to her; I have to know who she is.

I walked closer to be able to hear her thoughts.

Stupid house. Stupid Jeremy. Stupid Forks. Stupid mom! I hate this place, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!

That was definitely not Bella. She grabbed baseball equipment from the car and turned in my direction.

Who’s that? Hmmm, he looks kinda cute, but whatever. Boys. Why is he staring at me?

No. She saw me. No no no no no. I have to talk to her. I just had to. I walked over to her and tried to sound nice.

“My name is Edward Cullen,” I said.

Oh, he saw me. Seems normal, seems pleasant, seems nice. Wait…talk to him you moron!

“Oh, hi. I’m Alice McCleary….uh, call me Al.”

“Al,” I paused to think, “Do you live here?”

“No. Yes. Sort of. Almost…” She was very much like Bella, “We’re just settling in. My papa is in La Push…he’s had strokes and heart attacks, so we moved up here. My mom is living here for the time being…it’s her old house.”

Her papa? Charlie? Her mother’s old house? Could it really be? It had to be! That means…Bella.

“Your grandfather, is he Charlie Swan?” I asked with urgency. The girl seemed to be caught off guard by my question.

“Yeah, you knew him?” All to well.

“Yes, he’s good friends with my family.”

“Oh.” Be polite. Say something! Say what? Oh, Lord! “Would you like to come in? We’re just loading everything into the house but…” Keep talking you idiot!

“Oh,” I have to accept, I have to see if Bella’s truly here. “I really shouldn’t but I can help you carry some things in.” I smiled at her.

“Oh, yeah, okay, go right ah, ahead.” I picked up some boxes and followed her into the house. I could finally see her. My love, Bella.

The house hadn’t changed one bit. Everything, with the exception of new furniture, was where it used to be. I walked into the kitchen to see a young boy putting food in the refrigerator.

“Hey, Jer,” said Alice, “we’ve got company. This is Edward Cullen. Edward this is my brother Jeremy. Jer, he said his family new papa.”

“Really,” he still had jars of food in his arms. “That’s cool.” He looked at me and I looked at him. He, too, looked like Bella. And like his sister and mother, there was the slight lack of confidence that tied them all together.

“So are your parents here?” I asked, trying to sound casual.

“Actually, it’s just our mom and us,” said Jeremy, “our dad died three years ago.”

“Oh, I’m sorry for your loss.” That means Bella isn’t married.

“It’s cool; we just deal with it normally.” That’s when it happened. She came down the stairs, hair in a bun, looking more beautiful than ever. Bella, my Bella. I turned to face her and saw the shock on her face.

“Mom,” said Alice, “this is Edward Cullen.”

“Hello ma’am. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“Edward…” she squeaked.
