I watched as Bella sat down with Alice. The young girl looked around at my family and smirked a bit. She looked at me and glared. I got an image of Bella and a man with sandy blonde hair sitting on the beach holding hands and smiling. The man was tall, thin, had a paler complexion, I knew it was Bella’s husband when he kissed her hard on the lips. I cringed.

That’s right Eddie-boy, Carlisle told me all about how you can read thoughts and see images. I found out plenty. Your life is gonna’ be hell from here on out!

“Alice, this is Rosalie, Emmett, Jasper, Esme, Carlisle, and Alice,” Bella smiled, “That’s who you’re named after, Alice.” I saw Alice’s face brighten and she squealed.

“Oh, Bella! I can’t believe…I mean you, and you’re daughter, and me! Oh wonderful! I am so honored.”

“Wait,” Alice looked at Bella, “you’re telling me that you named me after a vampire?”

“Well, yes, you see Alice…”

“No, no, I get it.” She looked at us with a smile, “Well, I guess since my mom named me after you, so you can’t be that bad.” I could hear Bella sigh with relief.

I’m watching you. Just because mom liked your sister, doesn’t mean that I trust you.

I rolled my eyes in frustration; one bit at a time was alright. At least she didn’t hate all of us.

“So, what’d you do before, you know…” Jeremy trailed off, blushing.

“Well, we all have stories,” Carlisle said, “but maybe another time, you might want to get home now and rest.”

“Oh, alright then,” Alice looked disappointed, “but, you know, we can visit?”

“Oh yes, that would be lovely Alice,” Esme said.

“Call me Al, Alice doesn’t earn much respect around guys.” She looked at the floor and bit her lip.

Crap! I hope I didn’t offend Alice. It’s so tough when you have to deal with guys and you have that name! Ugh.

I chucked softly and lead the three out to the car. As I drove to the house I looked back in the mirror to see Jeremy staring right at me.

I immediately got an image of Bella and her husband kissing on New Year’s Eve. I closed my eyes for a second and clenched my fists.

That’s right, Cullen, I know too. If you hurt this family ever, I swear to God…thoughts won’t be your only problem, count on it.

Well, I guess I had two people in the family who hated me. I’ll figure it out later…right?

I got home and went to the piano. I sat down and played the song I wrote for Bella. It was beautiful, like her.

“I haven’t heard that one in a while,” Esme was behind me. “I’m glad you were honest with Bella and her children. They both seem pleasant.”

“Yes, little angels,” I muttered.

“I’m guessing they didn’t take to you too kindly?”

“At least Alice has one named after her. I have both sending images of Bella and her husband into my head.”

“Well, it’s understandable; they both lost a father and now all of this thrown on them. They just need some time.”

Somehow the song was becoming less beautiful.

“I can only pray right now. I have Bella back; getting her children to like me is not complicated.”

“Alright, then I guess I should tell you that Alice saw Jeremy and Al coming over…late tonight, they just want to talk with you. I would be prepared.”

“Thanks, I’ll be fine. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight, Edward.” Her ears perked up and Esme smiled, she was a little too thoughtful of Carlisle; I tried to block it out.

I looked at my alarm clock and it read 12:34 a.m. This is one thing about being a vampire I hated. The time. I wished that I could sleep again, to dream. But I couldn’t. Most nights we would stay up and watch television, there really wasn’t much to do. I sat in my bedroom in silence, looking out at the stars.

That’s when I heard them.

I heard movements on the outer side of my bedroom wall. I sat calmly and waited. A few minutes later I saw Jeremy and Alice fall into my room. I rolled my eyes as they got up and walked over to me.

“Just to fill you in, vampire boy,” Alice sneered.

“We are not going let our mom get hurt again,” finished Jeremy.

“We had to go through a lot in the past few years.”

“And we don’t need someone like you to screw it up.”

“Got that?” they asked together. I smiled and sighed.

“Does your mother know you’re here?”

“What do you think? She had to leave, actually.” Alice watched as sat there, dumbstruck.

“Papa had a heart attack and is in the local hospital. She was going to stay over there for a few nights.”

“Like we said,” Jeremy mumbled, “there’s enough problems.”

“Ah, so this was the perfect chance to come over here,” I guessed.

“Look, don’t think we’re idiots,” said Jeremy.

“You could easily kill us,” said Alice.

“But we’re just warning you,”

“Not to do anything that would hurt our mom more than what she’s already gone through.”

“Is that all?” I asked lightly.

“Yeah, that’s it.” Said Alice, “Just know what we said, no one messes with our family.”

“Alright, goodnight.” They turned to leave when the phone rang. I picked it up and listened to the call. “It’s your mother.”

“What?” they gasped.

“Give me the phone,” Jeremy said. He listened intently without getting a word into the conversation. He sighed and hung up the phone. “Mom called the house and we weren;t there. She wants us to stay put for the next couple of days,” he said. “She’s miffed.”

“No,” Alice barked, “we are going home.”

“Al, she’s already gone thorough enough, let’s not upset her, ok?”

“Stupid jerk,” she muttered.

“Well, you’re always welcome here,” Esme was at the door.

“Thanks, I feel safe and sound,” said Jeremy. Oh yeah, I feel perfectly happy in a house full of bloodsucking vampires, lovely!

I only wanted to make amends with Bella’s children, not baby-sit them!
