Il Cacciatore Del Vampiro

Edward’s POV

I was numb. I told my family of her death. They were grief stricken. I was numb as Alice and Rosalie sobbed against each other. I was numb as Emmett drew his fist back and punched right through the wall. I weakly sat at my piano. Their reactions would have been a whole lot worse had I told them what I said to her on that day, the reason she was gone. All of a sudden, I felt the need for music. I played it as it came to me. I began to sing brokenly.

You’re in my arms
And all the world is gone
The music playing on for only two
So close together
And when I’m with you
So close to feeling alive

A life goes by
Romantic dreams must die
So I bid mine goodbye and never knew
So close was waiting, waiting here with you
And now forever I know
All that I want is to hold you
So close

So close to reaching that famous happy end
Almost believing this one's not pretend
Now you’re beside me and look how far we’ve come
So far we are so close

How could I face the faceless days
If I should lose you now?
We’re so close
To reaching that famous happy end
And almost believing this one's not pretend
Let’s go on dreaming though we know we are
So close
So close
And still so far”

I finished and felt a little better. Pouring my emotions out into song made me feel so much better. The next few days, people began reverting to their normal selves, except me. I was numb as Alice dragged me to the mall with her early in the morning. We had relocated to a manor just out of a town called Astoria, Oregon. She chattered to me and I sat down on a bench in the mall. I spotted a music store. I went in and sat down by a grand piano. I played that song. I played as people stopped outside the window to watch, speechless. I finished, and when I looked up at the small crowd that had gathered I was rewarded with smiles. A man walked up to me, he handed me a business card as he shook my hand.

“I’m Tomas Green. I work for a record company called Blood Rose, and we are looking for young talent.” He told me. Ha, Blood Rose. I’m a vampire. How ironic. I was about to decline his offer when Alice appeared out of nowhere.

“Thank you Mr. Green. My name is Alice Cullen, and this is my brother Edward.” She chimed. The man grinned.

“I have one other person coming in to record with us at nine o clock this morning.” Mr. Green informed me. I nodded blankly. He nodded politely to me and walked out of the store.

“This is great, Edward!” Alice squealed. It was seven in the morning, and we drove back to the house where Alice shouted the news of my discovery to the house. Esme was there, looking proud. Carslisle looked at me and smiled. Even Rosalie was smiling. Emmett had begun hanging out with Jasper to avoid me. Jasper stayed away because he always claimed that there were too many emotions inside me. Emmett just stayed away because of what I did to her.

I walked into the studio at precisely nine o clock, hoping to get a glimpse of the other talent. They must have gotten here early. All of a sudden, I heard a hypnotizing sound.

“I am outside And I've been waiting for the sun With my wide eyes I've seen worlds that don't belong My mouth is dry with words I cannot verbalize Tell me why we live like this Keep me safe inside Your arms like towers Tower over me Yeah Cause we are broken What must we do to restore Our innocence And all the promise we adored Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole Lock the doors Cause I like to capture this voice You came to me tonight So everyone will have a choice And under red lights I'll show myself it wasn't forged We're at war We live like this Keep me safe inside Your arms like towers Tower over me Cause we are broken What must we do to restore Our innocence And all the promise we adored Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole Tower over me Tower over me And I'll take the truth at any cost Cause we are broken What must we do to restore Our innocence And all the promise we adored Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole”

I gaped. How could anyone sound like that, human or not? The sound was melancholy, and broken. You could tell that she had written it herself.

“How was that?” The mystery singer said, unsure of herself. Her voice was soft and smooth, like velvet. No, velvet was not good enough, her voice was like flower petals.

“Thank you so much Tempesta. I think we can get all we need from this recording.” Tom Green said. I heard the doorknob turn, and I stood up, ready to play my song. As the door itself opened, the strong scent of vampire overwhelmed me. It had an underlying scent though, one like flowers in the rain.

“Ah, hello, Edward. Tempesta, this-” Tom began, but Tempesta was already out the door, guitar case in hand, chocolate brown hair waving out behind her. “That girl has been acting extremely strange for the last ten minutes.” He said, shaking his head. I glanced at my watch. It was nine ten exactly. She must have caught the scent of another vampire. I hoped she was a ‘vegetarian’. “Well, Edward, shall we begin?” Tom asked me. I nodded solemnly.

Bella’s POV

I finished my second song, feeling antsy. I caught the scent of another vampire, but it was vaguely familiar. As I walked out of the studio behind Tom, I saw a person so beautiful it hurt my eyes. I sped past him before he could see my face. I sprinted through the nearby woods sobbing dry, hurt sobs. I was just outside of Astoria when I saw a large Victorian house. The scent of vampires was overwhelming. I had stumbled across them. I ran back to Astoria, reaching my apartment in record time. I broke down on the couch, sobbing from my broken heart. I cried tearlessly for maybe ten hours, feeling the pain of all that happened catch up to me. I strummed aimlessly on the guitar. I got bored and stood in front of my dresser.

I sobbed and looked in the mirror. I still saw that beautiful girl, but her face seemed drawn and pained. Rain began to pour down over the town and I realized that I would have to either move, or talk to the Cullens. I put the decision off for a later time as the phone rang.

“Hello, Tempesta, it’s Tom again. I just emailed my boss a CD of your recording today, along with Edward’s. He put it on the radio! Already! In less than one day, your songs are already on the top 50!” he exclaimed. My jaw dropped, shocked. Tom continued: “He wants to meet you and Edward also. He was the young man in the studio this morning. My boss wants to throw you a party, for your amazing success. I gave him your phone number and your email address.”

“That’s great news, I guess.” I sighed. He laughed.

“Get some sleep, girl, and expect to hear your song on the radio in twenty four hours.” With that, Tom hung up. I sighed and walked over to the computer on my desk. I opened my email, and sure enough there was a message from Blood Rose Recording.

Perfect. A masquerade would be the perfect way to reveal myself to them. I grabbed my wallet, which held my college fund. It was useless now, so I decided to go shopping for something to wear at this party tonight.

I reached a boutique and inside, there were many dresses. I fell in love with a certain one. It was a deep, royal blue, with crystal pins on it. I tried it on, and no changes had to be made. I got many compliments on the gown that I had chosen from the women at the register. I purchased the dress, and went to look for a mask to wear. I stopped by an antique shop, and inside, there was a beautiful silver Venetian mask. I bought it, knowing that it would be perfect with my dress. I even bought silver stilettos, knowing that I was more graceful than I was as a human. I returned to my apartment and took a long hot shower. I blow dried my hair, and styled it into perfect ringlets that cascaded down my back. I stepped into my dress and donned the mask that would protect my identity, tying it tightly behind my curls. I called a limo to come pick me up. I sighed at how much I had changed. As a human, I reluctantly spent money, and did not approve when others spent money on me. Now, it felt nice to buy myself nice things, and let myself do nice things. The party started at ten. When the clock’s hand turned to nine thirty, and the limo had not arrived, I began to feel nervous.

Edward’s POV

I looked at the computer screen as it beeped, signaling that I had a new message. It was forwarded from Tom Green. I opened it, frowning.

In Their Musical Careers.

I sighed. My sisters were going to go all out on this. I just pulled out my tux, and a sliver vest and bowtie. I hoped Tempesta would be there. I wanted to meet her. I heard Alice shriek with delight from her room.

“ROSALIE, I KNEW WE HAD A GOOD REASON TO BUY THOSE BALL GOWNS! EDWARD GOT US ALL INVITED TO A MASQUERADE!” Alice screamed. I sighed as Rosalie shrieked her own glee. Now we had to go shop for masks. Alice shouted again. “Everybody get in the car! We need masks!” I was about to protest when Carslisle appeared at the bottom of the stairs.

“Actually Alice, there is no need. I happened to know a man who made Venetian masks when I lived with the Volturi. Masquerades were very popular with them.” He led each of us into his study and opened a chest. Inside were no less than seven masks. All were masterfully crafted. Alice pulled out a violet mask, and Rosalie extracted a pink and gold mask. There were two black and gold masks, Jasper and Emmett quickly claimed them. Esme pulled out a silver and gold mask with a moon decoration, and Carslisle had the match to it. His was decorated with a sun on the top. The only mask left in the box was a lone silver mask.

“Its twin was lost centuries ago.” Carslisle told me. It was like me; alone.

Carslisle arranged for a limo to come pick us up to go to the party. It started at ten o clock and we all assembled at nine in our family room, ready to leave.

Rosalie was stunning in her pink gown and mask, as was Alice in her Purple dress and mask. Esme wore a dress of plain gold, and the gold mask she wore looked perfect. All the men wore tuxedoes and bowties. We arrived at the party just as the clock struck ten. Tomas Green approached us wearing a green plastic mask with his green shirt and khaki slacks.

“Ah, Edward!” Mr. Green said jovially, finally recognizing me in my mask. “This is your family, I presume?” I nodded and Carslisle reached out his hand.

“Hello, Mr. Green. My name is Carslisle Cullen and this is my wife Esme. These are our adopted children Rosalie, Emmett, Alice, and Jasper.” They all waved as they were introduced. We approached a table for ten with my name on it. I looked around at the full ballroom. There were so many people in masks there, but none of them seemed to be Tempesta. At about ten fifteen, we were all mingling around the ballroom. All of a sudden, a rock song began to play from the speakers. As soon as the vocals started, I knew it could only be Tempesta, because they were so perfect that they could not possibly belong to anyone else. The lyrics startled me, though.
The words were lost in awe as Tempesta arrived regally at the top of the stairs. All heads turned towards her. She was gorgeous in a royal blue gown; I had not seen anyone look as good in that color since her. As my eyes were drawn to her face, my jaw dropped open in shock. There, obscuring the upper part of her face was the silver mask that matched the one I was wearing. She glided gracefully down the stairs, but shifted uncomfortably as she noticed all eyes on her. She strode right past me to greet Mr. Green. As the song ended, people clapped madly. Tomas turned towards us.

“Ladies and gentlemen, that was ‘All Around Me’ by Tempesta.” He announced gesturing to her. She smiled absently, almost sadly. Her eyes were flitting to every face in the room, except those of me and my family. She walked out onto one of the covered balconies, outstretching her arms so that the rain fell gently on her hands. I walked out after her, wanting to finally speak to this elusive young woman. I stopped. Seeing her chocolate brown hair and her pale skin reminded me all too much of her. She whirled to face me and hurt showed in her eyes; the rain fell harder and harder. Her eyes, her eyes were not gold or even red; they were deep pools of chocolate even though she was a vampire. Something about them was extremely familiar, but I could not put my finger on it. Pain and overwhelming memories of her played in my head as her eyes bored onto mine. I exhaled sharply at the pain; I talked through it, trying to be polite.

“Hello, my name is-” I began; she silenced me with a hurt glare. I did not understand. What had I done to her? I did not even know her!

“Hello, Edward Cullen.” Tempesta said coldly. I raised my eyebrows, but she didn’t see because of the mask. My song began to play inside, and I mentally prepared myself to ask her a question.
