He met my gaze and smiled, a very sick and sinister looking smile to me, but everyone else thought he was just being friendly. It’s really weird how I know so much about everyone’s actions.

I quickly looked at my watch and it was one. I let out a small gasp, pretending I was late for something and said, “Lexi, I’m sorry but, I really have to be somewhere right now. I’ll call you later.”

I stood up and went to push in my chair when I felt Jeremy’s hand gripping my arm.

“Leaving so soon?” He asked.

It took every ounce to strength I had to not smack him as hard as I could in front of all of these people, especially Lexi.

“Yes, actually, I have an appointment I cannot be late for and I am already behind.” I said gritting my teeth.

“Why don’t you let me take you?” He asked, “My car is right over there,” he pointed to a car in the lot outside, “it wouldn’t take so long.” His grip on my arm was growing tighter.

“No thank you.” I said though my teeth.

“No really, I insist.” He said his grip further tightening.

I couldn’t help but gasp at the sharp pain that shot up and down my right arm.

“Get away from me.” I demanded still though gritted teeth. His grip loosened but he didn’t let go.

Then I guess I’ll have to use sheer force. I thought, knowing he could hear me.

Be my guest. He challenged.

I couldn’t help but take the challenge if it kept me away from him; I picked up the chair in my free hand as if it was a flimsy book and smashed it against his head. There was a loud crack from where the iron leg had met its target and someone gasped, but Jeremy was still standing and I turned to find a very large and head-shaped dent in the leg of the chair.

That’s not fair. I thought.

I never play fair. He coiled.

I then found my right arm twisted behind my back and that I was on the ground and Jeremy on top. People were staring at us and I heard someone on the phone with the cops or the hospital, most likely the cops saying that there was a fight going on between two out worldly strong people.

I noticed that Lexi wasn’t sitting down anymore and that she was the one on the phone. Great, my best friend is ratting on me for being half vampire or zombie or inhumanly strong.

“Was that really necessary?” Jeremy whispered into my ear.

“Yes, it was. It felt good too.” I whispered back angrily, “What do you want from me anyways? It seemed like you liked me at first but now you want to kill me. I just don’t get it!”

“Lucas hasn’t told you?” He asked bewildered, “I thought, you of all people, I can’t believe he hasn’t told you!”

“Told me what?”

“That you are the next queen of Nymth! I thought he would have told you by now!” He shook his head slightly, “He’s left you in the dark all along. I pity you now.”

“I’m going to kill him!” Now my anger had two targets to take care of and it was getting hard to keep quiet.

“Do you mind if I help you with his assassination?” Jeremy asked.

“Yes, I do mind. I need you to stay away from me, let me scream my head off at him, crush his little hopes and dreams of my ever liking him again and then you can have your turn.”

“Anything specific you want me to do? I’m clearly more powerful and if I can get rid of him, then I can rule Nymth again.”

“Whoa, wait, you used to rule Nymth?”

“Yes, around nineteen-forty-five. I believe your father visited around then. Yes, it was just after I gained power, every creature was struggling, vampires the most. The fierce battle before had scatter almost all of the wildlife, so they started feeding on other creatures, and I couldn’t have that in my new kingdom so, I punished the vampires.”

I let out a small groan and his pressure on my back released and I could actually breathe again.

“Can I get up now and go home before the cops get here and we get arrested and Edward goes ballistic?”

Jeremy got up and I clambered to my feet. Lexi was at my side as soon as she could be. At least I still had one friend. Jeremy left and I ran out after him, noticing that I was “late” for my “appointment”.

I raced home and found everyone going about their business as usual. I found Lucas upstairs and packing some clothes for me. I would have preferred to pack myself but I didn’t care anymore because I wasn’t planning on leaving.

“Can I talk to you for a minute?” I asked through gritted teeth as I found my anger returning.

“Sure, is everything okay? You seem kind of tense.” He said following me out of the house and running through the trees deeper into the forest.

“No. Everything is not okay.”

“What? Did Edward find out?”

“Then what’s wrong?”

“How could you not know what’s wrong? Hmm let me give you a hint it’s one of the larger secrets you’ve been keeping from me, oh, and it involves my future and the future of your kingdom.”

He looked at me like I was talking to him in ancient Chinese.

“How could you keep that fact that I’M the next QUEEN of Nymth?!?” I screamed at him.

His reaction to this was a look of shock. How could he have expected me to just go along with all of his plans?

“I’ve never even liked you like that Lucas! How could you expect me to just go off with you and rule an entire world that I know nothing about?” I said in a slightly quieter tone.

He still did not answer.

“Huh!” I exhaled angrily, “Your turn Jeremy.”

As I said Jeremy’s name Lucas’s eyes met mine as if pleading me not to do this. I had to do this. There was no possible way of avoiding my future for much longer and I knew Alice’s vision would come true I was either going to die soon or get changed into a vampire.

Jeremy stepped out from behind some trees with a wicked grin on his face. I stepped back, allowing him to have a clear shot at Lucas.

All of a sudden, I started to rethink this. If I let Jeremy kill Lucas, then no one will be able to stop him from controlling Earth too. What would happen to Alec, Ryan, Chad, Edward and Bella, the rest of the family, the other humans, other creatures, and me? With Lucas gone Jeremy could do anything he wanted, whenever he wanted to. Lucas isn’t worth killing over a lie. Any other girl probably would have just screamed at him, said to never talk to her again, left, and just come back and apologize for it later.

But you’re not like other girls now are you? Lucas thought back playfully.

I guess I’m not. Well, if I’m going to have to be queen of Nymth then I’m going to have to be Queen of Nymth, and there’s only one real heir… I thought back.

So does that mean you’ll do it? Lucas asked.

For the moment, yes. Now go and kick Jeremy’s ass off for me. I said turning to smile at him.

I wish I could have stayed to see Jeremy get his ass kicked, but Edward wanted me at home. Apparently someone from the restaurant had gotten hold of our phone number and Edward wanted to know what had exactly happened.

Lucas came in later with a big grin on his face.

So how did it go? I asked.

It was too easy. But I won, and Jeremy ran like a little girl oh it was great. He thought back gleefully.

I mentally watched his memory of the fight as it flashed before my eyes and I grinned back.

So, are we still going tonight? He asked.

I nodded and he smiled. Everything seemed to be back to normal. For the moment that is.

Ryan came in and asked the same question. I nodded slightly as I was playing the piano again. My fingers glided along the keys and I found myself writing a completely new song. I heard many of my common melodies becoming harmonies and I found Edward’s newest harmony as a melody. Bella came in and joined in with some of her own pieces. Edward paused in heading for the door to go and feed to listen for a few minutes. He seemed proud of Bella and me.

I eventually climbed into bed, only to be awakened by Ryan nudging me.

“Everything’s ready to go. Are you ready?”

“Yeah. I’m ready. So, what’s my motivation for the huge argument tonight?”

“Ok, you’ve just had a horrible dream about either Jeremy or the Volturri coming and killing everyone in order to get to you. Now, even though it was just a ‘dream’, you want to leave so no one will get hurt because of you.”

“Alright, I think I’ve got a good dream. Now, to turn on the water works. You’ve better get to your room to be one of the people who get screamed at.”

“Okay, you’ll be perfect.” He said giving me a small peck on my forehead.

I sat there for a couple minutes after he left, trying to pull myself into what looks like a horrified but determined teenager. Once I had the waterworks going on demand, I laid back down, pretended to sleep, and “woke up” screaming.

Edward was in my room in a flash, having no idea that all of this was planned, and looking into my horrid “dream” and shaking me awake.

I bolted out of my bed, grabbed an empty duffel bag and started shoving everything I possibly could into it. With tears streaming down my face I ran down the stairs faster than usual, tripping and landing in Edward’s arms.

“Shh, Lizzy, Lizzy tell me what’s wrong.” He cooed.

“Let… me… leave!” I yelled between sobs.

“Lizzy, you can’t leave, everything’s fine. We’re here Lizzy. No one is hurt. Everything is fine.” Edward tried to calm me down and the rest of my family had gathered behind him and was watching along with Chad, Ryan, and Lucas.

“No, no, no! Everything’s not okay! Everything’s wrong!” I wailed, pulling myself free from his grip and running out the front door, leaving my family and friends behind staring after me. Lucas and Ryan were the first to “grasp” that I was running for it and bolted after me, Lucas shifting while running. Ryan held out his hand and the group behind us froze, time was stopped except for us. Lucas finished shifting and reached the car. I quickly darted off into the trees and Ryan unfroze time and continued running.

Everyone climbed into the other cars and took off after Lucas, leaving Ryan and I back at the house.

“Ready?” He asked.

I climbed onto his back with my duffle over me shoulder and we disappeared into the woods.
