I raced through the trees as fast as my half human legs would carry me. This was the worst time to not have the same speed that Edward did.

"Alec," I called through the now dark forest, "Alec I'm sorry. Luke and I aren't like that! He's just a friend... Alec, where are you?"

There was a low growl from behind me. I had run right past him. I stopped and turned slowly to find the ever familiar steel grey wolf staring back at me. His face full of hurt and anger.

"Alec, let me explain." I pleaded quietly.

He growled, what's there to be explained?

"I have to tell you everything now. Don't I, otherwise you'd never understand." I mused more to myself than him.

What don't I know? He was calming down, slightly, but a bad move or poor choice of words would fire him right back up. Okay Lizzy, take your time. Think things through, he's unpredictable remember? I reminded myself.

"Well, Luke and I have, sort of a deal." I began slowly. When he didn't answer, I continued, "You know how Jeremy's after me right?" He nodded, "well, Lucas is really the only one who can protect me from him. We made a deal. I'd be safe, as long as I'd help him in return. I recently, very recently found out the reason why he needed my help so badly.

"He needs me to help him and his world, his way of existence if that helps. Obviously he's not from around here, his world is completely different. Every mystical creature resides there, and they all seem to get along. Lucas needs my help to keep it that way. For some odd reason, to which I am currently and will most likely always be unaware of, I have been chosen to be the next queen of his world." I paused.

What the fuck does that mean?

"It means that I have to marry Lucas in order to keep myself and his world safe. But, lately, things have gotten more... complicated." I chose the last word very carefully.

How so? He asked confused.

"I'm not a liberty to reveal the moments of my life that you were not involved in to you at this time." I said to him like I was someone who lived and breathed FBI.

The wolf gave out a barking laugh.

"More people have shown up, gotten involved. I can't just abandon my promise to Lucas when Jeremy's probably devising his next plan to do something to me. I'm not sure what his motives really are, but he's after me for one reason or another. Doing that could endanger everyone around me. I can't bear to lose anyone. You have to try and understand that Alec. I've never lost anyone before now, I have no idea how I would react if Edward...Bella... Carlisle... Alice... Emmet... any of them, or anyone else I knew disappeared into of thin air."

The wolf gazed at me in understanding, waiting for me to say more.

"And I'd probably die, or at least be dead fairly shortly if you left. My future might not be intentional, but death could come faster than you want it to depending on the reason." I whispered, "Will you still come to the party? It wouldn't be a party without a wild werewolf, who just happens to be one of my best friends, there. Please?"

Alec stepped forward and his large pink tongue glided up my cheek, leaving a slobbery trail behind.

"I take that as a yes." I said.

Alec barked a laugh and disappeared into the trees, to only appear a moment later in a pair of sweats and on two legs instead of four.

"Sorry about that." He said as I wrapped my arm around his back, and he draped his over my shoulder.

"Friends?" I asked.

"Friends." He said smiling, his blazing white teeth stunning me. I hadn't seen him smile like that in what seemed like ages.

"Come on! Lucas and Ryan will be waiting, and we have to get ready to leave tomorrow so we can make it to the party on time. We wouldn't want our precious prince and his friends to be late now would we?" I smirked.

"Race you back."

"You're on." I said and we both charged into the trees, trying to find the quickest way back to the tiny house.

* * *

I won of course. Alec claimed to have let me win, but I bragged even more about it as we walked through the fixed backdoors into the house.

Ryan turned around from where he was sitting on the couch, "So I'll take it that you two are friends again?"

"Yes Ryan." I told him playfully, "Alec and I are still friends. Me and you, well let's just say I have some thinking to do."

He was shocked, "What on earth did I do?"

"I'm just kidding. God, now I know two people who overreact to any jokes I intend to tell. You and Edward."

"Oh." He said as Alec was laughing really hard. I smiled at Ryan's temporary stupidity and continued walking up the stairs to my room.

I walked in and found everything where I had left it. Lucas on the other hand, was nowhere to be found. I checked everywhere in the house, nothing.

"Guys, do you know where Luke is?" I called quietly, knowing they could hear me and mentally listened as they thought about my question. The answers wee clear from both of them; no.

Now, where, on the face of the planet, is Lucas?
