I was at the coffee shop in less than five minutes of running. I was of coarse soaked, but none of my friends would care. All they wanted to do was talk.

I spotted Lexi at our usual table, waiting impatiently for me with Eric and Aaron on either side of her. I slid into the seat across her and the onslaught of questions began.

“So, how was America?”

“Fine,”

“Oh come on Liz, you can do better than that! I want DETAIL!”

“Ok, it was a lot like here, only a little less wet at times and a whole lot more green. I don’t think I have ever seen that much green in my entire life. The town we stayed in was tiny! There were only like four hundred kids in the entire high school! I was like holly shit, this is one puny town. I don’t know how I would have survived if it weren’t for these three guys I met.” I knew I should not have said the last part. I could see Lexi getting more interested, and both Eric and Aaron getting jealous.

“So were they cute?”

“Yeah, I guess you could call them cute. One of them looked like an Indian, and the other two were really pale-"

“But probably no where near as pale as you.” Eric stated.

“No, not as pale as me though. One had bleached blond hair and the other had brown hair. They were both very interesting.”

“So, did any of them ask you out? I mean come on, all of the girls at school have been jealous of you since like the second grade!” Lexi was a little too enthusiastic.

“All of them asked me out, and one of them kissed me.” Lexi squealed at that.

“Which one? Which one kissed you?” Lexi pleaded.

“Jeremy.” I said plainly.

“And…” she pressed.

“He’s the brunette but he really wasn’t my type. It was a very short relationship.” I added on the very last part when I saw Eric and Aaron’s faces as the though of any other guy kissing me. They both kind of thought they almost owned me or something it was getting kind of creepy.

“What did you do to your shoulder?” Aaron asked. I then remembered that I was wearing a tank top even though it was raining, and the scars from what Alec did were visible. I needed to come up with a really good lie to convince him that I had just been stupid or something before any other questions came up. I opened my mouth to speak when Eric cut me off.

“It looks like you got mauled by a bear or something. They seriously look like animal scratches.”

Lexi joined in, “what happened? O-M-G, did you get mauled by a bear? We heard about a vicious animal attack over there but we never thought…”

“Guys, chill. No, I didn’t get mauled by a bear. I was hanging out with one of my friends when her Great Dane attacked me.” That sounded logical enough to me.

“Ok,” All three of them said at once, believing the story for the moment. My phone started buzzing again, it was Alec. I glanced at Lexi and she mouthed “go ahead”, so I unwillingly excused myself from my small cluster of friends to go get pissed off at Alec for calling me, again.

“Alec, what the hell do you want with me now?” I hissed into the receiver.

“Liz, its Jacob. I am really sorry about calling you like this, but I’m worried about Alec. I know you two did not really make up after that fight, but he has been really down since last night when you told him you were in England. I know you really don’t want to talk to him, but please, at least try and calm him down. Tell him that you will be back soon or something, anything. He’s been threatening to fly over there and drag you back. Please just talk to him.” Jacob was practically begging me t do it. It took all I had to try not to be angrier at Alec for having his dad call me and beg for his forgiveness.

“Ok, fine, but I have to go soon. I’m with my friends and they’re getting really anxious. So tell him to make it quick.”

I heard the changing of the receiver and then Alec’s familiar voice.

“Hey Liz. How ya been?”

“Fine.”

“Listen, umm, this is really hard. The whole you not being here and we still not back to being cool thing has been driving me crazy. I need to know that I am at least forgiven for the human reactions which lead to the whole wolf attack. I just need to know if I’ll ever see you again.” He was pleading too.

“Okay, you are forgiven for the human reaction, but not the wolf quite yet. To your second question, I’m not so sure.” I whispered uneasily into the phone.

“What do you mean you’re not sure if I’ll ever see you again?” He asked anxious now. I knew I never should have said it. Me and my big mouth.

“Well, it’s kind of hard to explain that part, and I’m in a café with humans, so I’ll try to explain it later okay?” Now it was my turn to beg because I knew how persistent Alec could be.

“Fine, but it better be soon.”

“Ok, it will be. I’ll call you when I’m on my way home. Bye”

“I love you Lizzy.”

“Don’t get your hopes up Alec. Remember I’m not sure about you even seeing me again.”

“Oh, right. Bye.”

I hung up and danced my way back to the table where my friends were still waiting. The interrogation started all over again.

It was five o’clock when I was finally able to leave the shop, and they all still had more questions for me. What fun awaited me tomorrow? As I left, I whipped out my phone and called Alec back. It was now nine in the morning in Washington. Alec answered after the first ring.

“Ok, now do I get to know why I might never see you again?” He asked.

“Yep, but you’re going to have to ask your dad some questions about this later okay, remember that.”

“Ok, now tell me how you know.”

I took a deep breath and began, “You know my ‘sister’ Alice? Well, she’s kind of able to look into the future, and in a word describing my future, it’s rather short; as part human goes anyway. There’s a large clan of vampires who are kind of like our royalty, their leader either wants me dead or changed.” I waited for a response but none came so I continued, “Their leader is going to try, and most likely succeed, according to Alice’s vision, to either change or kill me. In the vision, I was in the park with someone, and their leader pretty much jumped me, bit me on the back of the neck and took off while me cradled and screaming for death in his arms.”

There was no response on the other line.

“Alec…”

He then exploded,“WHAT THE HELL??? IF THIS LEADER GUY WANTS YOU DEAD SO BADLY, THEN COME BACK HERE AND WE’LL TAKE CARE OF YOU!” I pulled the phone away from my now deaf ear and continued listening, “I know Jacob would not mind if you stayed for a while. He would probably be pleased and they would not be able to find you here, on the Rez, because the other vampires don’t know we exist! The safest place for you right now is back here with me.” He trailed off at the end.

“Alec, that’s a wonderful offer but I really don’t think that Washington is the safest place in the world right now. The Volturri attacked here in England before we left for the Sates, and we just barely made it out. I think they’re on their way to Washington to search for me now actually, so you guys better be careful. And if any of you mention the treaty at all, or our location, they will come and hunt us down and kill us all without a second thought. So please do not tell anyone about this!” I finished up as I reached the front of my home. Everyone seemed to be back now, and I could hear thoughts coning from the living room.

“Alec I need to go, something’s come up. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” I hung up and walked in.

Everyone was in the living room sitting and talking. Ryan and Chad were still here and their heads were the first to whisk around to stare at me. Ryan’s eyes were still golden, but his hands were gripping the arm of the sofa dangerously tight and his nostrils were flaring as I walked across the room to sit next to Edward and Bella.

Fill me in. I thought and all of Edward’s memories of the conversation played before my eyes and I heard every single noise and thought he had in the pas half an hour in less than three seconds.

Thanks.

Anytime. He thought back

Carlisle was now speaking with Ryan about something but I could not seem to get the image of him staring hostilely at me out of my head. I was almost positive he was having a very hard time not killing me at this very moment in front of my whole family. I swore to keep my distance and keep out of his head for a while.

I walked up to my room then, feeling exhausted thanks to Jasper. My room was completely re-done and looked exactly like the one I had left in Washington. I climbed into bed and quickly fell asleep.
