I whirled around to where Edward was standing in the doorway with a confused look on his face. He spotted the suitcase on the bed; open from where I was packing clothes slowly into it. Realization twisted his face and I heard Jasper gasp in pain upstairs.

"I'm sorry, Edward."

"Why are you leaving?" He already knew the answer, but he was desperately hoping to hear something to give him hope.

"I am leaving, Edward. But I'll come back," I sidestepped the question and he knew it. I was too hurt to answer. Every-time someone said it, it seemed to make it more and more true.

"Why?" His voice was weak, and I remembered that we all felt this way. But it was MY fault. None of them had that burden to bear. I wish I had died.

"Because I'm hurting everyone else. You're in pain when I am, and Jasper is too. I want you to be able to move on, and I need to go let my grief out. It's not helping, just letting it build up like this."

"I'll come with you," He immediately stood up straighter. He was going to fight for this.

"Edward, please." I moved forward and rested my hand on his cheek. He closed his eyes in denial. He sighed.

"You have to do this alone?"

"Yes," I looked away from his gorgeous face, knowing he was going to try to convince me not to go with his eyes.

When I looked back I was ready and I met his golden stare with my own. He blinked slightly, and I knew I had won.

"I'll miss you," I murmured and dropped my hand, replacing it with a kiss.

He wrapped his arms around me and buried his face in my hair, refusing to let go.

"If Alice sees anything, I'm coming for you."

I nodded, burying my face deeper into his chest.

"How long?"

"Hmm?" I asked, trying to draw my attention away from his wonderful scent and focus on his voice.

"How long will you be gone?"

"As long as it takes," My muffled voice said into his shirt. He pulled away to stare into my eyes. His were heated and filled with anguish.

"As long as what takes?" he whispered, his breath blowing across my face. My hair stirred slightly as I inhaled.

"For her to come home."

I tore away from his gaze and zipped up my suitcase.

He followed me to my car and put my bag in the back seat.

"I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too. I love you," I assured him. He kissed my forehead.

"I love you too."

I shut the door and rolled down my window. "Call me if Alice has any visions," I told him, but I think he could tell I didn't mean any visions about me.

"I will, Bella."

"Good bye, Edward." It sounded too final, so I repeated, "I love you."

"Come home soon."

I turned onto the road, and drove away from my love and my family.

Everything I cared about was behind me. Almost everything. So what was I driving toward?
