I woke in the same position I had fell asleep in. Lying in Edward’s stone cold arms, my head in his chest and my arms around his body.

Edward’s liquid gold eyes were half open and lazy looking when I woke up and peered up at him. He turned his head and looked down at me. There was sadness in his eyes, probably because of my sobbing last night.

My heart ached for him, and for Jacob.

“Oh Bella.” Edward sighed, his fingers gently brushing over my reddened, puffy eyes. “What am I going to do with you?”

My only response was closing my eyes and burying my head once again into his sweater.

Edward leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on the top of my head. “Do you care to explain?” He asked in the gentlest, most persuasive tone possible.

I shook my head and pulled my comforter over myself. Thank god it was Saturday. I don’t think I’d be able to bear a day of school after what had happened last night. “I’d rather not.”

Edward pulled the covers away, only enough to see my face. “Bella, you were bawling all night. Something’s up. Something happened.” He said in a serious, concerned tone of voice. “I think I should know. …Was it.. was it Jacob?”

Jacob’s name being spoken shocked me, and it hurt. For a moment, I half expected that I was going to start crying again, just like before. I didn’t, but I think that Edward had expected me too as well. The instant he spoke Jacob’s name, he cringed, knowing it probably would’ve been better for him not to have said that.

I dug my fingers into Edward’s chest and hid my face. “No!” My yell was muffled in his thick sweater.

Edward turned me around in his arms so I was now facing upward, looking up into his face. My arms were curled up over my chest in a helpless-looking way. My eyes were still red and watery from crying. I’m sure I looked quite pathetic. Puppy-like.

“Bella, I won’t ask again, because I don’t think you’re… ready to talk about it, but as soon as you are,” He pulled my chin up to look at him. “You will tell me, Bella. For your own good.”

I shook my head away from his grip. “Not now.” I insisted, trying my best to sound stern. It seemed to have worked well enough.

Edward inched back, giving me some space and his expression softened, even though it’d been pretty calm before.

I yawned and rolled my feet off the bed. I placed them on the ground and stood. I tried my best to avoid Edward as I went about my morning routine. Not because I was mad at him, but because I knew I was in a crappy mood, and I didn’t want Edward to have to deal with it.

I searched as quietly as possible through my closet, throwing aside anything that seemed too dressy or too sloppy. Eventually, I decided on a casual pair of sweats and a too-big t-shirt. It’s the weekend, what the heck. I yanked the clothes off the wire hangers and draped them over my arm. I was surprised when I turned around to go change, to see Edward’s face, only inches from mine.

“In a bad mood, are we?” Edward murmured, his breath cool on my face. He reached out and stroked my cheek gently. “I do believe I can change that.”

I blacked out. His sudden closeness overwhelmed me, and the clothes dropped from my arm. My lips parted and I allowed myself to taste Edward’s breath. It was cool, crisp, and clean on my tongue.

Edward’s breathing stopped suddenly, only long enough to lean down and press his lips against mine. My eyes widened momentarily, and then gently closed. My arms reached to his back, pulling myself closer to him. My thin hands inched up his back until finally, they found his neck. I knotted one hand in his hair and left the other on his neck.

It was times like these that I had missed when Edward had left me. Now that he was back, I normally would’ve looked forward to times like this, but it seemed Edward and I were both too busy to have time to ourselves. Our lives were full of drama, and danger. That’s why whenever we had time to ourselves, Edward seemed to be more eager, more willing.

I was surprised my Edward’s sudden willingness, but I didn’t let it bother me.

Edward’s arms reached underneath me, and he lifted me off my feet. I was suddenly cradled in his arms, still kissing. My arms were still wrapped tight around his neck, and my fingers were weaved into his hair. I pulled back for a moment, only long enough to breathe. I leaned forward again, but Edward put his hand up, stopping me.

“What is it?” I murmured, still breathless.

Charlie. Edward mouthed, gesturing with a free hand toward the door.

I bit my lip. It definitely would NOT be good for Charlie to walk in at this moment. He definitely would not like to see his daughter and his daughter’s boyfriend, at such a time. Also, because he had no clue that Edward stayed over every night, and he probably wouldn’t be too happy about it. Frantically, I wiggled out of Edward’s arms.

He let me squirm out and hurried toward the window. He forced open the window and swung one leg outside. “I’ll be back right afterward.” He whispered before leaping out of my room without a sound.

I nodded and slammed the window shut after Edward was safely on the ground. The glass shook violently at the force. I ended the glass’s shaking by laying my hand over the surface of the glass.

I heard Charlie stumbling about outside my door, his usual state after just waking in the morning. He coughed once or twice before rapping on the door of my room. “Uhh… Bella? You in there?” He paused, clearing his throat. “Is that the window?”

I bit my lip nervously and walked hesitantly toward the door. I tried to seem as innocent and casual as I could when I opened the door. “Yep dad, I’m here. Where else would I be?” I said with a smile. “Err… yeah, that was the window..” I paused. I knew he would ask why my window had been slammed shut. “I..uh, well, I left the window open last night and I didn’t realize it until this morning. So I shut it.”

“Oh, well, I’ll be downstairs, kay?” He mumbled. I had had a feeling he would believe me. He wasn’t exactly the brightest when it was early in the morning.

Charlie wandered away down the stairs. I heard the TV buzz to life and finally shut my bedroom door.

“Ugh.” I sighed, putting a hand on my forehead.

“That went pretty well. You’re lucky though, anyone else would’ve caught that lie instantly.”

I jumped at Edward’s voice behind me. I hadn’t realized he’d slipped in once again. I turned to face him with a smile on my face. “Yeah, I think you’ve mentioned before that I’m not exactly the best liar.”

Edward grinned. “No, not exactly.” He took a few steps to close in the small distance between us. He pulled me into his arms and hugged me.

Suddenly, his lips were at my ear. “I think I’ll go back home for a bit today.” He whispered while rubbing my arm, comforting me. “I need to see my family every once in a while too, Bella. I realize now isn’t exactly the best time.” He was obviously talking about the Jacob incident. “But you can come by the house anytime. Actually, I think Alice has been missing you.”

“A-…alright.” I said, trying my best not to pout. “I’ll visit sometime today. I’ve been missing Alice, too.”
