It was going to be a long day now that Edward was gone. My days without him always seemed empty and meaningless. Sometimes, on days he was out hunting, during the week, it was almost unbearable. I felt so weak the way I was so vulnerable without Edward. I wanted to prove that I would be completely fine without him.

So far, it wasn’t going well.

After Edward had left out my window, I’d moped around my room for a few minutes. I’d kicked a few things lying around on the ground, just for something to do.

After I’d realized I couldn’t entertain myself by just kicking things around all day, I decided that maybe it would be a good idea to change into some fresh, clean clothes. I was still wearing my clothes from the day before. I hadn’t had much of a chance to change; I’d been too busy bawling.

I picked up the clothes I’d had picked out before. They were lying right where I’d dropped them when Edward began kissing me.

“Maybe a little privacy would be nice.” I whispered to myself, pulling the shades down over my window.

I changed quickly into my sweats and t-shirt and went about the rest of my morning routine. I brushed my teeth and hair. I combed my hair back into a nice, loose ponytail.

There was a sudden knock on the door. “Bella? You gonna make breakfast, or do you want me to have some cereal?”

I smiled to myself and opened the bathroom door. “That’s okay, dad, I’ll make some bacon and eggs.”

He seemed pleased. “Thanks, Bella. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” He said with a smile before turning and heading toward the stairs. I shook my head, laughing quietly to myself.

I followed Charlie down the stairs, past the living room, and into the kitchen. Charlie took his seat at the dinner table and unfolded today’s newspaper which was sitting on the table. I peeked at the front page of the newspaper. I always checked the large stories now, ever since the incident in Seattle..

“Dad, you want your bacon extra crispy, right?” I asked as I opened the refrigerator to get out the bacon and eggs needed for Charlie’s breakfast.

“Mmmhmm..” He murmured, his mind not totally concentrating on my question.

I took out four slices of bacon and two eggs. I shut the fridge door and placed the uncooked food on the counter. Charlie’s breakfast was finished quickly. The bacon was just crispy enough and the eggs were cooked perfectly, with no broken yolks.

“Thanks, Bell.” Charlie comment with a smile when I placed his plate in front of him. “It looks delicious! Didn’t you make yourself some, though?”

I shook my head. “Nah, I’m not that hungry. I’m okay with just a pop-tart.” I pulled open a package of pop-tarts from the cabinet and ripped open the cardboard box. I picked out the pop-tarts at random and put the rest away in the cabinet. With a large yawn, I tore the shiny packaging and threw it in the trash.

“Enjoy your breakfast dad.” I said as I headed out of the kitchen.

Charlie looked up momentarily from his meal. His mouth was stuffed with food, so he nodded instead of responding by voice.

I headed up to my room, munching on my pop-tart as I went. When I entered, I collapsed onto my bed and glanced at my clock. It had been exactly fifty-two minutes since Edward went home.

Fifty-two minutes wasn’t very long. It was only a small chunk out of my day. I was NOT looking forward to the rest of it.

“Damnit.” I muttered. “Damnit Edward.”

I felt so pathetic. Maybe Charlie was right. Maybe I am too dependent on Edward. I told myself I have to be strong. I told myself it would be nothing. I was beginning to rethink my thoughts on it being Saturday. Earlier, I had been happy it was Saturday. Saturday meant a day to be with Edward. A day to be alone. Now, it was more like, a whole day with nothing to distract me.

“Stupid,” I murmured. “This is stupid. I’m fine.”

I wonder what Angela was up to.. Maybe it would be a good idea to spend a day with Angela, and Ben, of course, who never seemed to leave her side.

It hadn’t been more than ten seconds and I’d already planned the whole day. The phone was already in my hand. I dialed Angela’s number and waited patiently as it began to ring. I twisted the curled phone cord around my finger as I listened to the ringing.

“Angela?” I asked.

“Oh, hey Bella! How are you, I never hear from you!”

“I’m great, and I’m sorry about that. I don’t seem to have much time to call as often as I used to.”

“Yeah, that’s okay. I’m sure you’re very busy. Oh! I forgot to tell you. Congratulations on Edward’s proposal! That’s great! I can’t believe it, you’re so young, yet you and Edward seem so… so, sure. Ben and I can go to the wedding by the way. I wouldn’t miss it for anything!”

I smiled. Even when I wasn’t being the most… consistent, friend, Angela always seemed to keep up with my hectic life. Well… most of it at least. “Thanks! It’s great that you can come, I haven’t seen you in FOREVER. Actually… I was wondering if you wanted to do anything today. Have you got anything planned?”

“I don’t think so. Ben will probably want to hang out, but I can always tell him I’m going to hang out with you. What did you have in mind?”

“Oh, no, no, no, Ben should come too!”I said. “I didn’t really have anything in mind actually. Edward’s back at his house for the day, and I don’t really want to bother him. I just wanted to… get out.”

“Oh, well that sounds good. Why don’t you come over to my place in about an hour? We can figure out what to do once you get here.”

I smiled ecstatically. “That sounds great, so I’ll see you in a little bit, okay?”

“Yeah, sounds great.” Angela replied.

“Kay, bye.” I said with a smile as I untangled my fingers from the phone cord and hung up.

Maybe today wouldn’t be so.. unbearable after all. I had something to look forward to for the next hour. An hour wouldn’t be so bad. I could think of a few things I needed to have done. For example, my room. It was a complete mess. It’d been that way for quite a while, but now, without Edward here to distract me, I was just beginning to realize how disgusting it was. Dirty clothes, along with a few clean, unworn clothes, were lying all over the floor, bed, and anything else it could possible hang on. Papers were strewn about my desk.

“Wow.” I said, standing there in my room as if I were just seeing it for the first time.

I quickly tidied up the papers that were scattered across my desk. More than half of them were old school papers that had been piled up over time. They ended up in the garbage and all the other papers were stacked neatly and put away wherever they belonged.

All of the dirty clothes were thrown into the hamper. The clean clothes were placed onto hangers and hung in the closet. By the times I was done with that, a half hour had passed since I’d called Angela. I decided to leave early for Angela’s.

I grabbed the keys to my trucks and headed outside. I was planning on stopping at the drive-thru McDonald’s and getting a milkshake or something, so I wouldn’t get to Angela’s too early.

I stuffed my keys into the car and turned them. The engine grumbled. “Thank you!” I breathed, normally, it would take much longer to get the old piece of junk started up. Edward still insisted on buying me a nicer, faster, car.

I pulled the truck out of the driveway and went off into town. As I turned into the McDonald’s, I noticed that there was a larger crowd there than normal.

“Hmm..” I murmured thoughtfully as a pulled into the drive-thru. I ordered a small vanilla shake without thinking about the number of people. As I pulled up to the window, I got a glimpse of the mass of people inside.

My eyes narrowed. “Jacob?” I whispered.

Jacob was there, along with the rest of the pack. There were also a few other Quilete kids. I recognized most of them except for one. A slender girl who was probably a little younger than me

“Who is that?” I murmured, I strained to get a view. “Is she..”

“Is she here with Jacob?!”
