No sun light showed through the canopy of the forest. But like there was any light to come through that was the only reason I was here that and James. She loves James more than anything else in this horrible place where I had to constantly hide. But with James I could be me until he showed up but there were some ups to this dismally place like not having to hide during the day because there was no sun to expose them.
“When will we be near civilization?” Laurent the newest member of their group asked.
I hated Laurent hated him from the bottom of my heart well if I had a heart you know what I mean.
“YOU COULD LEAVE” I shouted in his face he was walking behind me and James so to look at him I had to whip my head around to glare at him.
As I did my flame red hair whipped around my face. Swirling in furious twisted as it settled.
“Victoria behave.” James said sounding board.
“WHY ARE YOU LETTING HIM TRAVEL WITH US HE IS NO HELP ALL HE DOES IS COMPLAINE.” “
I told you why Vicky there is of a coven here larger than anything we have encountered before.”
“So where are we any way?”
“Well we will come near Seattle in about a day if we keep our current pace.” James answers matter-o-factually.
“So we can eat in Seattle and hang out outside town for a week or two then we continue north.”
“Sounds good to me,” Laurent added quickly before I could suggest a new plan.
Stupid annoying not welcome privacy intruding male vampire if only James weren’t here I would ripe your throat out.
I thought to myself. That brought a smile to my hard lips.
James and Laurent continued to talk too low for ever my highly tuned ears.
Though I had no mirror I could tell that my eyes where were pitch black. I was very thirsty. The next day when we can to a road we decided to ‘hitch’ a ride as we waited for a car our thirst was so great it was hard to ignore. Then a battered old car came down the road. I really didn’t really pay attention to what kind of car it was. Like any good hitchhiker I stuck out my thumb and tried to look pleasant.
“Where are you a going miss” the man asked. He was older late 50s early 60s.
“Well” I said as I climbed into the passenger side of the car.
“You aren’t going to leave this car, well alive any way,”
That was all James and Laurent needed. They were there in a flash James was faster snapping his neck but not killing him it was no fun if they were dead.
James sighed in relief and started drinking Laurent joined him.
He, still alive stared up at me I didn’t feel any remorse he was just pray to me.But I had to drive the car.
“You could have saved me some," I said as I drove down the road.
“We could have, but we really didn’t want to there and there was barely enough for us.”
“Sure what ever, jerks,”
We parked outside of town and when it got dark went and disposed of the body. After James and Laurent went back to the car to what.I went hunting.
The hut the bane of my existence. The best part of my dreary life.
It didn’t take long to find my prey. Four men rounded the corner. They didn’t look like normal prey they look like fun. They greeted me; I immediately realized what they would try to do.
When I turned away I smiled to myself. Two of the men started trailing me “Wonderful” now I knew for sure that they were the ones I wanted. They thought they were herding me and they got me into an alley.
They approached. They where mine.I leapt at the one nearest me and broke his neck careful not to spill his blood. I continued on one by one and then when I got to the last one the leader I didn’t break his neck I just bit in and enjoyed. One by one I drained their bodies of blood.
James and Laurent were too hasty they should have wanted till a more opportune moment it was more fun that way.
About a week later we continued on heading north just as planned. When a storm hit we troughed on then, we heard something very distanced. To a human it would have sounded like to boulders crashing together but we knew better.
The sounds abruptly stopped as we went to investigate. We reached the edge of a meadow we could see a cluster of people, vampires, waiting, and a sent reached our noses very distinct and floral.
As we approached James fell back Laurent taking the lead. We tightened our formation we were hesitant their coven was so large. We straited out to look 'classier' I guess is the word.
Their eyes were golden not red it was unnatural.
Then James saw something that surprised him though the others didn’t notice.
“We thought we heard a game, I Laurent these are Victoria and James.”
“I am Carlisle. This is my family Emmett and Jasper, Rosalie, Esme and Alice, Edward and Bella.”
“Do you have room for a few more players?” Laurent asked a little too sociably for MY taste.
“Actually we were just finishing up, but we would be interested any other time. Are you planning to stay long? ” Carlisle said matching Laurent’s tone.
“We’re headed north, in fact, but we were curious to see who was in the neighborhood. We haven’t run into any company in a long time."
“No, the region is usually empty except for us and the occasional visitor, like yourselves.”
“What’s your hunting range?” “The Olympic Range here, up and down the Coast Ranges on occasion. We keep a permanent residence nearby. There’s another permanent settlement likes ours up near Denali.”
“Permanent? How do you manage that?”There was curiosity in his voice.
“Why don’t you come back to our home with us and we can talk comfortably?”Carlisle invited “it’s a long story.”
I looked at James as he said all this. Their conversation bored me after all this was said then I slight breeze came through the clearing then James snapped his head a round then I caught the smell it was the floral sent that was every were it was her, a human in the clearing with them. For the first time James spoke
“What’s this? “
“She’s with us,” Carlisle’s voice was firm.
“You brought a snack,” Laurent said and took a step forward. The one in front of her called ‘Edward’ crouched in a defensive position snarling.
Carlisle, trying to correct our assumption said “she’s with us”
“But she’s human,” Laurent complained.
“Yes,” the one called Emmett said with as much evidence as Carlisle his eyes never left James.
“It appears we have a lot to learn about each other,” Laurent fighting the hostility said.
“Indeed,” Carlisle said his voice cool.
“But we’d like to accept your invitation,” he said looking at the human then back to Carlisle. “And, of course we will not harm the human girl. We won’t hunt in your range as I said.”
Three of them came and blocked our view of the human girl and the others. After James and I slipped away he said.
“Did you see the smallest of the vampires?”
“Yes.”“Do you know who she is?”
“She is the only prey that has ever escaped me.”
“And the human?”“She is important to the one.”
“So the hunt is on.”
