“Are you sure that you want to do this,” he questioned with his voice as smooth as ever.

“As sure as I think I ever will be. I never thought that it would be so hard to tell Charlie that I was getting married,” I said. The fear and anxiousness became stronger with every word that I spoke.

“Don’t worry Bella,” said Edward. “If you have trouble telling him, I’ll do it. I promise that I will never leave your side.”

Soon after that, we pulled up into my driveway. Charlie’s car was already there as though he know what was about to happen.

When Edward and I got inside, Charlie was sitting on the couch and watching another game that he knew that I didn’t care about. When he noticed that I had come home, he quickly turned off the television and asked me how my day was.

“Dad,” I said in a somewhat shaky voice. “Edward and I have something to tell you and I need you to listen.”

“Well Bells, I’m listening,” Charlie replied with a skeptic look on his face.

My eyes flashed over to meet Edward’s. His reassuring gaze gave me the confidence that I needed to continue with my nerve-wracking task. I sighed and continued.

“Edward asked me to marry him and I said that I would,” the large weight that rested over my chest lifted as I said the last words in my sentence.

Charlie’s face began to redden, his fists clenched, and his whole body became extremely tense. I knew what was about to happen. My eyes darted back to Edward again. I could tell that he saw the fear in my eyes. He immediately spoke up before Charlie exploded with anger.

“Please don’t be mad at Bella, sir. I was the one who asked her,” Edward said hastily. I knew it wasn’t enough when Charlie’s mouth began to open. I started to cringe before any sound came out of Charlie’s wide open mouth.

“Bella,” Charlie said very loudly through clenched teeth. “Do you have any idea how big of a mistake you are making?

“What mistake,” I questioned. “Is the mistake agreeing to marry Edward?” my tone started to rise slightly.

“No,” Charlie replied. His voice was steadily rising. “The mistake you are making is that you are marrying Edward now. You saw what happened to me and your mother. You know what marrying fresh out of high school can do to a relationship.”

“So what you are saying is that you don’t have a problem with me marrying Bella,” Edward questioned. He obviously wanted to keep the conversation moving. Charlie’s mood began to slowly calm down

“That’s correct. I’ve seen how much you two care for each other. I just think it’s too soon. I’ve never seen Bella happier and I just don’t want her to get hurt. I know that she cares for you and that you obviously care for her,” Charlie said. I could see his eyes start to water. “If you must marry Bella now, I will not stop you. I just want you to understand the risk you are taking by marrying so early.”

Edward’s eyes started to sparkle and so did mine. Charlie had said that I could marry Edward. It was one of the happiest moments of my life.

“Now you two go have fun. I’ll see you later tonight Bells. Oh and also,” Charlie said as we started to head out the door and with a little more enthusiasm. “I want you to keep me informed on your wedding plans.”

Once all was said, Edward and I headed out to his car. It was then that I realized that Charlie’s mood was a little off.

“Edward,” I asked. “How in the world did Charlie’s mood go from hate to acceptance?” I asked even though I knew the answer.

“I had Jasper stand outside the window and calm Charlie down if he go too rowdy. I didn’t think that a huge argument was necessary.”

Edward then opened my door for me and was in the driver’s seat before I even had a chance to sit down. As we pulled out of the driveway I realized that another difficult task was before us. Now we actually had to plan the wedding.
