Edward’s POV (present day)

The drive from Chicago to Forks was surprisingly long, but it suited me just fine. It gave me a chance to block out everybody else’s thoughts and focus on my own. I had to prepare myself emotionally before returning to Forks and Forks High School. It was actually the last place I wanted to be, but after Jasper had almost lost it we had to leave and this was the only place we could go on such short notice. Alice had called ahead and enrolled us in school once again as soon as we left Chicago. I had so much history there. That place changed my life forever.

About 100 years ago I had said goodbye to the one person I wanted by my side forever. Soon after Victoria had killed her, along with her father, and I had flown back for the funeral. I saw her gravestone and had sobbed for hours by its side. Wave after wave of blame, pain, and anger swept over me. I was surprised Jasper didn’t explode with the emotions. I tried to run to the Volturi, but my family, especially Alice kept me sane.

Now as we entered the towns city limits and drove towards the High School, I was afraid I was going to collapse once again, but Jasper put a reassuring hand on my shoulder and I nodded my thanks. As we pulled into the parking lot I saw the familiar buildings, and I almost looked for Her old red truck in the parking lot. This was going to be a long day.

“ Alright everyone you know the drill, we will be here to pick you up at three. I am going over to the hospital to get a job and Esme will be fixing up the old house so call if you need us.” said Carlisle. I hope Edward will be all right; this has got to be tough on him. This is going to be tough on everyone. I heard him think.

Similar thoughts were coming form everyone else as they mumbled their goodbyes to Carlisle and Esme, but I chose not to hear them. I just walked purposely over to the admissions building with everyone else trailing behind. Its not like this year will change my life like last time.
