I spent most of the day unpacking. I had to find space for my keyboard, bass guitar, and amp. Plus all my sheet music I have collected over the years. When it was dinnertime, Alexa came up and got me. When we got into the kitchen there was only one plate of food.

“Aren’t you guys going to eat also?” I asked confused.

“Actually there is something we need to tell you once you are done eating.” Alexa replied with a glimpse of anxiety on her face. They went into the living room and left me to my thoughts and dinner. Once I was done, I followed and went into the living room.

“So what do you need to talk to me about?” I asked nervously.

“Well, you know how I was going to visit you five years ago and then had to cancel?” Alexa started off quietly.

“Yeah, you said you couldn’t get away from work.” I responded confused.

“I lied. The reason was because I was walking in the woods when some guy came up behind me and he, um, he bit me.”

“What do you mean he bit you?” I didn’t understand what she was saying.

“Um, well he was a…a vampire. And since he didn’t drink all of my blood, I became one also.” She said quickly, looking at the ground.

“OH MY GOSH!” I exclaimed standing up and backing away. “Why did you bring me here? Are you going to kill me?” I was starting to get hysterical.

“No! I…”

“Jon and Drew are vampires too! Aren’t they?” I was yelling and sobbing now as I fell to the ground. I vaguely heard the front door open and then I felt a cold arm around my shoulders. When I looked up I saw it was Drew. I flinched away. But, even knowing what he was I still felt bad when I saw the hurt in his eyes.

“Kristin, no one is going to kill you. We don’t drink human blood, only animal blood. We don’t want to be monsters.” Drew said quietly with pain seeping through his voice. “Please believe me. We would never hurt you.”

“How can I not believe you?” I answered quietly, still in shock because of what I found out. “I think that I just need some time alone to process this. It’s not everyday you hear your sister is a vampire.” I said with a strained laugh.

“Ok. So…”

“I’ll see you at school tomorrow. Vampire or not, you are still my only friend.”

Yesterday is a wrinkle on your forehead
Yesterday is a promise that you've broken
Don't close your eyes, don't close your eyes
This is your life and today is all you've got now
Yeah, and today is all you'll ever have
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes

This is your life, are you who you want to be?
This is your life, are you who you want to be?
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be?
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose

I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock playing one of my favorite bands. As I dragged my body out of bed I thought about what Alexa told me the day before. Even though I tried to be logical and tell myself that there was no way vampires could exist, I knew in my heart that they were telling me the truth. I couldn’t forget the hurt on Drew’s face when I flinched away.

I thought about all of that as I took a shower and then headed downstairs where Alexa was waiting with my breakfast looking wary.

“I’m so sorry about how I reacted last night. It was horrible of me to hurt you like that.” I said before she could say anything.

“You had every right to freak out, Kristin. I told myself to expect it, but it was still a shock to hear what you said.” Alexa responded quickly.

“Yeah, well, I’m still really sorry. How about we talk more once I get home from school, ok?” I asked as I got my keys and went to the door.

“Ok. Have fun, Kristin. Make sure you talk to Drew, ok? He feels really bad about your reaction.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll talk to him.” Then I got in my car and drove to Forks High School. It wasn’t too cold so I rolled my window down and turned up my radio. It was playing one of my favorite songs by Switchfoot.

Head over here and take me
Head over heels and aching
When I told you I was yours
I was yours
In this life, you're the one place I call home
In this life, you're the feeling I belong
In this life, you're the flower and the thorn
You're everything that's fair in love and war
I'm coming down like a gunshot
In all these battles I've fought
You're the mark I'm aiming for
I was yours
Head over heels
In this life I'm stubborn to the core
In this life I've been burning after more
We both know what these open arms are for
You're everything that's fair
In this life, you're my only one

This song totally explained how I felt when I thought about Drew, even if he’s a vampire.

I expected to be really early when I got to school but there was still another car in the parking lot when I got there. I got out of my car and went to the office to get my schedule. Right as I reached for the door, it was pushed out and hit me. I fell back and would have landed on the ground, but I felt two strong arms pick me up. I looked up and saw a blurry version of Drew.

“Oh my gosh! I am so sorry Kristin! Are you ok?” Aw he sounded so worried.

“It’s fine. I, um, I think I need to sit down for a minute, everything is blurry at the moment.” I whispered as he lowered me slowly to the ground.

“Oh I feel so bad! I can’t believe I did that.” He was still going on apologizing! Wow!

“Drew! It was an accident. It happens.” I said firmly as I put my hand over his.

“They don’t happen to me. I should have heard you coming.” He said quietly, looking away.

“Hey, look at me.” I said still being firm. He turned his head slowly and so I was able to look into his eyes, which made me lose concentration. “Just because you aren’t human doesn’t mean you are expected to pay attention to every little thing. I didn’t get hurt; just a little dizzy, but I will be fine. So stop apologizing and help me get up so I can get my schedule.”

“Ok.” Was all he said with a look of shock on his face as he helped me up and opened the door for me. He stayed in the back of the room quietly as I got my schedule. Only when we were outside did he start talking again.

“So do we have any classes together?” He asked curiously.

We exchanged schedules and found out that we have all of our classes together.

“Wow, that’s a coincidence.” I said under my breath.

“What, that we have all our classes together?”

“Yeah, I mean I’m glad we do, but it’s kind of weird that we do.” We had started walking in a random direction and I just realized I had no idea where I was supposed to go. “Do you know where our first class is?”
“Yeah. It’s right over there. But we still have time before school starts, so I figured we could sit down and talk.” Drew responded as he led me to a bench near our first class, which was English.

“So how are you feeling? You know, about last night?” He seemed very hesitant to bring it up.
