Carlisle was at work, which I didn’t mind. Esme was shopping with Alice. Jasper was having his clothes for the wedding fitted. Rosalie and Emmett were off in Paris doing something. It was me and the big empty house again.
I was stuck answering the thousand e-mails Renee had sent me.
How are you? I miss you so much. I hope you’ll be coming home soon. I can’t wait to see you. Did Alice tell you the good news. She’s helping me get a dress for the wedding. I don’t know how that girl does it. She’s so young and so good at what she does. Phil says hi. I hope you come home soon. I still don’t know how I’m going to get to Forks for the wedding.
I’m doing fine? How are you? Are my little siblings giving you any trouble. I’ll be coming home soon. By the way, I’m going to be driving down to Florida and driving you to Port Angels. I hope you don’t mind. I love you too, Mom. I’ll see you soon.
I sent the e-mail and closed the laptop up. I was worried about driving Renee and Phil all the way to Port Angels. That was going to be a long drive to do alone. I didn’t really know if I could do it, but I guess I had to do it now.
I looked up when I heard someone pull into the drive way. It wasn’t a family car. It was that couple again. They were determined to break into the house.
I went to the door, blocking there way in. "I’m going to have to ask you to leave." I said, narrowing my eyes. I couldn’t do that persuasive thing that Edward could do, but I could make people fear me.
"We want to come in and look around the house." Jane said, standing not five inches from my face.
I held my breath. "Please leave."
"No." She tried to push me out the way.
I pushed back and she went down. With a sick thud she landed on the stone steps. A dark pool of red forming around her head. Then it hit me.
The smell. The most wonderful smell in the world. I might be able to resist it when it was inside the human body but once it came out so did the not so nice Bella.
A growl rose in my chest and I took a step towards her. Daniel was sitting beside her, screaming her name. I knelt down and dipped my fingers into the thick, red liquid forming on the steps.
I lifted them to my lips and licked them clean. It was so good. The good Bella was gone and the very thirsty Bella was taking over. I scooped more up, ignoring the man screaming at me. It was so good. Like melted chocolate and Edward’s kisses. It was so good.
A thrill went through my body like the time I jumped off a cliff. I kept licking, wanting more and more of the liquid. This was why Jasper had such a hard time. It was so good!
The man pulled on my arm, it was like moving stone. I turned on him, barring my teeth. I was going to sink my teeth into his flesh and get the fresh warmer blood.
"Bella!" Alice screamed, grabbing me around the chest. She struggled to pull me back away from the man.
I fought against her, throwing punches and kicks at her without thought. Esme checked the woman for a pulse before going to calm the screaming man.
"Bella, calm down. Bella!" Alice screamed, losing her balance when I jerked. We went tumbling down the stairs landing in a bundle at the feet of someone. "Carlisle, help me!"
I looked up and saw him looking down at me. He knelt beside up, grabbing my hand. "You don’t really want it do you, Bella? It’s not that good. You don’t want to kill him. You’re not a killer." He said, stroking my hand with his.
"Did I kill her?"
He nodded, forcing me to look at him and not the woman. "It’s okay. Bella. We all slip up sometimes."
I laid there in Alice’s arms with Carlisle kneeling over me. I don’t know what Esme was doing. I couldn’t even form a real thought. I just kept replaying what I had done in my head. I had drank human blood, and I still wanted more.‘Bella?’
Edward was home.
