That Wasn't Suppose to Happen

It's the day of the wedding. Bella is about to become Mrs. Edward Cullen. Something goes wrong that no one saw coming. Will Bella and Edward ever get their day?

I didn't create this world, I'm just playing in it.

"Hey, mom." I said, kissing her cheek. She was huge. "Hey, Phil." I gave him a hug.

It was entirely too hot in Florida, even at night. I had driven a very long time to get to Florida and now I was about to get back in the car and start driving again.

"Honey, I can’t believe that you’re going to drive us all the way up to Forks." Renee said, giving me a look. I don’t think she thought I could do it.

"It’s fine, Mom. Don’t worry about it. I want you to sit back and relax. We wouldn’t want anything to happen to my siblings would we?

She put a hand on her belly and smiled. "No we wouldn’t."

Phil helped her into the back of my temporary Malibu. Edward had gotten for me on the second day we were there. He told me it was just until he could find a better car. I didn’t know if I wanted to give the Malibu up, it was pretty nice.

I got in the front with Phil and started the drive back to Forks. Renee looked happy in the back, her eyes closed and a smile on her face.

"Are you excited, honey?" She asked, eyes still closed.

"Yes. Let’s hope someone doesn’t set the fire alarms off this time." I had to hold back the laugh that threatened to escape when I thought about that. To any other bride that wasn’t funny, and it was not funny at all to Alice. She had told everyone to find some other way to get everyone out next time.

"Where did you go when the fire alarms went off?" No one really knew what I had done last time when I had ran from the church.

"I ran out back. I tripped and fell and I was so upset. I’m sorry I didn’t come and tell you bye before I left. I was just so upset that I wanted to get away right then."

"I wish you would have come to tell my bye. When Esme came and told me that you were leaving with Edward to go on to England I was so sad. I wanted to tell you that I was sorry about how your wedding turned out. No girl should have to go through that."

"You have no idea."

"Honey, I’m going to need to go get a new dress once we get into Forks. I outgrew the one Alice had picked out for me."

"Don’t worry about it, Mom. We’ll take care of it. I think Alice might even have one ready for you. She thinks about everything."

I couldn’t wait for Phil and Renee to fall asleep so I could start breaking the speed limit by a lot. I turned the stereo on and put in the CD Edward had made for me so long ago. I couldn’t use my lullaby for sleeping any longer, but someone could.

Renee drifted off to sleep quickly and Phil followed several songs later. I sighed and pressed my foot down on the accelerator. I was on a straight away across the country. I passed all the other cars and managed to avoid every cop.

Renee woke up every few hours when the babies started pushing on her bladder. I would pull over and fill up on gas. She would get right back in and start sleeping again.

Around midnight my phone, which Edward had picked out, started ringing. I answered it, driving at over a hundred miles an hour with one hand.

"Hey." Edward said, it sounded like a lot of tension flowed out of him with that one word. "How are you doing?"

"Fine. I just put the air conditioner on and pump in nice cold air to help clear the air once in a while. How are you?"

"Worried. I wished you had just talked Alice into going. I want you back here." He sounded worried.

"Edward, I would be no good in Forks right now. I don’t even know how to plane my own wedding, we need Alice there to help Esme. Has Carlisle called in yet?"

I still didn’t know why Carlisle and Emmett had gone to New York. I had a feeling that I didn’t want to know. They might be buying something so expensive it would make Bill Gates look poor."

"Carlisle called in a few hours ago. He’s coming home in two days. He and Emmett finished up early. I think Emmett is going to be on his best behavior. Esme bribed him with something."

How did you bribe a vampire? What did they not have? Emmett was a big kid who had every toy he could ever need. What could Esme give him to make him play nice until we finished getting the last details ready.

"I wish I was home with you right now. This driving thing is really not that fun."

Edward laughed, I could see him smiling in my head. "I knew I shouldn’t have spoiled you in high school. I should have let you drive yourself to school a few times. Now remember drive between the lines." He said it like he was talking to a two year old who was trying to color in the lines. If he had been siting next to me I would have hit him.

"That’s not funny. Is there anything interesting going on?"

He hesitated. "Um, I would take the long way to Port Angels. Stay as from away from the reservation as you can. They’re not very happy with us. That dog has lost his mind. I’ll tell you the whole story when you get home."

I was so board, he was going to tell me while I was on the phone. "Tell me now. I don’t have anything to do. They’re both asleep."

"Jacob went a little crazy. He and Sam got into a really big fight. Well to put it simple Jacob kicked Sam’s ass. Jacob is the alpha now and is going crazy. We’ve had wolves barking at the door twice now. So I would stay away from the reservation. I don’t know what he’s going to do. He’s crazy. He has lost it, Bella. You would have to see it to really believe it."

"I’ll get to see it soon. I think I’m about half way home, I don’t know though. I don’t even know what state I’m in right now. Wait, there’s a sign. I’m in Tennessee. I think I’m getting ready to get off this road and get on another."

"Be careful."

"I will. See you soon."

"Bye. I love you."

"Love you too." I hung the phone up and looked for my exit. Alice had given me directions to take on the way there and back.

After driving all night and part of the morning I was so happy to see Port Angels, with Alice standing outside the hotel Renee and Phil were going to be staying at. I pulled up and laid my head against the steering wheel. I knew I had to look tired, and that my hair had to look like crap.

"Bye, honey. Go home and get some sleep." Renee said, as she got out of the car.

"Oh, I will, Mom." I was going to go home and lay with Edward for hours on end. "You should go in and get something to eat and then go get some real sleep. Bye, Phil."

I waited for Alice to check them in and to come out to the car. Esme was still doing something up here and Alice had decided that she wanted to go back to the house with me.

"Get in the passenger seat, Bella."

I didn’t even question her. I just got out and switched sides, sinking into the seat. I laid my head back and closed my eyes. I really wanted to go to sleep, but that wasn’t going to happen.

"I’m almost done with everything here. All I have to do is get Renee a new dress. I already have one picked out, she just has to go get fitted. The tailor will be at her hotel today at two. I thought I might let her get some sleep before she had to go through a fitting." Alice said, turning the car towards Forks.

"Good. I’m so tired." I was also very, very, very thirsty. I had been trapped in a car with two people for a very long time. I had pushed the limits. I knew that I had dark circles under my black eyes. They had finally lost all their red tint, even after my little slip up in England.

"Well you can go home and lay around with Edward. He almost drove me crazy in those few short days that you’ve been gone. He just sat there starring at the phone. When he wasn’t doing that he was sitting somewhere and snapping at anyone who talked to him. It was very hard to fit him for his suit."

I laughed. That sounded like him. That’s why he had called me. I bet it had been like heaven to everyone at home. He wasn’t snapping at them during that brief period of time.

"I’m so happy to be back in Forks."

"Just think, there was a time in your life when you didn’t want to live in Forks and hated it with a burning passion."

"Amazing how people can change."

We were in front of the house. I jumped out and ran to Edward, and just stood there hugging him. It felt so right and it felt so good.
