‘It’s okay. You’ve done great. Looks like Jasper might loose his bet. It’s okay, Bella.’ His voice washed over me, making me relax.
"Edward, take her with us. We’re going to go. She needs to go as well." Alice said, appearing behind Edward.
"Take me where?"
"Hunting." Edward stated, pulling me towards the door. I still didn’t like the idea of killing an animal with my own hands.
We were walking into the garage when Edward and Alice stopped. I stopped a split second after them. I could see what Edward was seeing through Alice. It wasn’t the best news.
"Hello, Bella." Aro stood in the drive way, hands clasped behind him. "How nice to see you. We’ve been wandering how you were doing." He took a few steps towards me, and I took a few back.
"Can we help you, Aro? We were about to leave." Edward said, taking my hand.
"I wanted to see how Bella is doing. To see if her powers had started to develop. Such a strong girl should have a great ability. Do tell me what it is."
I suddenly felt pretty bad. I didn’t have a great talent like Edward or Alice. All I could do was read Edward’s mind, but through that I could read everyone else. "I can read Edward’s mind. Just surface thoughts. Nothing more than that." I said quietly, looking down at the floor.
"I have a feeling that will turn into something else. Someone like you is bound to be able to do more things than that. We’ll keep in touch and see how you’re doing. You’re so special. We would love to have you join us once your powers come and manifest themselves fully. The same for you, Edward, Alice."
"Thank you for the invitation, but we are quite happy right now." Alice said, moving to her car. "If you don’t mind though, we really must be going. We’re all being tested a little bit right now."
"Well then you had best be going shouldn’t you. I would hate to have to take care of a problem while I’m up here. I don’t think Edward would take kindly to me killing or taking Bella away."
Edward growled, helping me into his car. I closed the door with a snap, shaking in fear. Why was everyone trying to test me? It wasn’t fun anymore!
Edward got in the car and we peeled out of the drive way, flying past Aro. Alice followed behind, looking rather worried. Edward kissed my hand. "Everything is going to be just fine. Don’t worry about them. They’re not going to do anything to you."
"It not just that. Aro has a point. Everyone thought I was going to be so strong and have these incredible abilities and I’m still just Bella. Is my mind really that screwed up!" I crossed my arms over my chest, pouting like a little child.
"But think about it, you can lift Emmett’s Hummer over your head."
"So can he!"
"There’s nothing wrong with you, Bella. You’ll be fine. Even if your brain is messed up I don’t care. Don’t worry about it. When it’s time you’ll know. Just don’t think about it."
"Could you read minds when you were first made into a vampire?"
"No, not really. Mine is a gift perfected over time. It started with me only getting little flashes of what Carlisle was thinking. It was a year before I started getting whole thoughts out of him. Then Esme came into the picture and it was easier. By the time I went on my little...bender I could do it without thinking about it. Sometimes I wished I hadn’t pushed it and had just let it form on it’s own." He was trying to make me feel better about myself.
"Will you tell me where we are going?" I didn’t know anything about England, seeing how I had never been.
"To the woods. I figure it would be better than taking down a dog in an old woman’s back yard."
"Not funny, Edward."
"I’m sorry." He kissed my hand again, turning off the road and onto a path I wouldn’t have noticed.
I couldn’t believe Edward and Alice were bringing their brand new cars down a muddy path. I didn’t think these cars could even go down a path like this. I guess I was going to have to try my hand at driving sometime, I had yet to drive since my transformation.
Hunting in England was no different than hunting in Forks. I did like it a bit better here, though. I didn’t have to worry about Charlie being in the woods while I did it. In Forks I had worried that he would go in looking for a bear wondering around near the town.
