Chapter 10-Viva La Vida

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemies eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt, and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
Once you know there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in.
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People could not believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries Wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
(Ohhhhh Ohhh Ohhh)

Hear Jerusalem bells are ringings
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh

Jennifer’s POV

We walked hand in hand down the stairs to the kitchen. My mom and dad were sitting there looking up expectantly. We looked at each other quickly and then back at them. “We’re getting married!” We exclaimed at the same time.

My mom had tears of joy running down her face. “Well, it’s about time!” She said as she stood up and hugged me and then Jake. My dad sat at the table smiling so big that I thought his face was going to break.

“Now honey you might want to go get dressed. We have wedding planning to do!” She said and I looked down and realized I was still in my robe.

“Ok, please don’t torture Jake with a lot of wedding questions yet.” I pleaded. She sighed, but nodded and I ran up the stairs and grabbed the first shirt and pair of yoga pants I could find. The shirt was the red one from my rafting trip on the Yough River. It had a picture of a bottom of a boat and the words ‘If you can read this you’re screwed!’ on the back.

I ran back downstairs and found my mom sitting at the table pouring over wedding magazines that had appeared out of nowhere. I shook my head and sat down. “Your dad and Jake went out for a little man-to-man talk.” I sighed. Oh no dad was going to go all overprotective parent on him.

“Well let’s get to work then.” I said with a dramatic sigh. My mom and I looked at each other and then broke out in laughter. I picked up a flower magazine and flipped through some of it. I stopped on a page with rose bouquets. “I like the dark red roses.” I said looking at one bouquet in particular. It had dark red roses with little white flowers mixed in. I pointed it out to my mom.

“That’s beautiful!” She exclaimed. Then I saw the dress magazine.

“Mom?” I asked hesitetly

“Yes dear?” She said looking up from a bride’s maids dress magazine.

“Can I wear your wedding dress?” When I looked up she had tears in her eyes.

“That has been my dream for so long. To she my girl married in my dress to the love of her life.” She held her arms out and I reached out and hugged her. Both of us were crying and laughing and crying some more. When we pulled apart we started looking through magazines. Then I started to think about bride’s maids and the maid of honor. I figured that I could ask Leah to be my maid of honor and Emily’s daughter Abigal to be my other bride’s maid. The three of us had been pretty close the last time I’d been here.

We spent hours going over plans and dates and every little detail that comes with getting married and Quil and Jake came back in at some point, but left the room when they saw the magazines. Boys. We only stopped because pictures and words starting blurring, but we had decided the basics and I knew I wanted to have the wedding on the beach. I would have to discuss all this with Jake, but I had a feeling that if it made me happy then it would make him happy.

Jacob’s POV

Quil took me outside for a little man-to-man talk. I knew this was coming, but I was kind of dreading it. “Ok so you know that this is my little girl?” He started and I nodded though I had a feeling that that was a rhetorical question.

“She is my flesh and blood and I realize that you have imprinted on her and that you would never do anything to purposely hurt her, but still be careful. You know what she’s been through and that she’s been hurt before. I never want to see her like that again. If you hurt her like that or in anyway at all I will get my shot gun out of its case and you better run.” I must have had a very strange look on my face when he finished because he started to roar with laughter.

I glared at him and he tried to stop. “Sorry it’s just the look on your face! That just made my day even better.” I felt my face crack and I smiled.

“I won’t hurt her Quil. I’ll take care of her and protect her and everything that’s in my power to make her happy. I would move heaven and Earth if it would make her happy.”

“I know. That’s why I’m letting you marry my girl.” There was a moment of awkward silence and we both started laughing again.

We walked back to the house to find Claire and Jenny sitting at the table looking through bridal magazines and we both snuck out of the room before we could be sucked into looking through magazines. “I think there’s a soccer game on tonight.” I said as and excuse to stay near Jenny.

“Sounds good.” Quil said and we settled in front of the TV.

Jennifer’s POV

I stood up and stretched the muscles that had tensed while I was bent over for hours. Jake and my dad were still yelling and whooping at some game on TV and I went in to say good night to both of them.

“’Night dad.” I said, giving him a hug and a quick kiss on the cheek.

“’Night Jake.” I said, also giving him a hug, but then brushed a kiss across his lips. Before he really knew what happened I was already up the stairs in my room. I closed and locked the door. I stripped and slipped into my red silk nightgown. I flicked off the lights and climbed into bed. I had my eyes closed and I was falling asleep when there was a knock on my door.

I sighed, but got up and opened the door. When I did, I was swept up into the arms of someone and kissed passionately. I realized that it was only Jake and then I kissed him back.
