Chapter Seven-It's Not My Time

Looking back at the beginning of this
And how life was
Just you and me loving all of our friends
Living life like an ocean
But now the current's only pulling me down
It’s getting harder too breath
It won’t be to long and I will be going under
Can you save me from this?

Cause it’s not my time I'm not going
There's a fear in me it’s not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Oh but I won’t go

I look ahead to all the plans that we made
And the dreams that we had
I'm in a world that tries to take them away
Oh but I'm taking them back
Cause all of this time I've just been too blind to understand
What should matter to me
My friends this life we live, it’s not what we have
It’s what we believe in

Cause it’s not my time I'm not going
There's a fear in me but it’s not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
But it’s not my time I'm not going
There's a will in me and now I know that
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Oh but I won’t go
I won’t go

There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
There might be more than you can see

But it’s not my time I'm not going
There's a fear in me it’s not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
But it’s not my time I'm not going
There's a will in me and now it’s gonna show
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Oh

There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
There might be more than you can see

But I won’t go
No I won’t go down
Yeah

Jennifer’s POV

The days passed quickly and I spent them and my nights with Jake. By Monday he was fully healed. I on the other hand was not. Over the past few days the pain had gone from bad to worse and the area around my stitches was looking red and angry. Everyone had noticed how bad it had gotten for me.

It was now Tuesday and I was in my bed with Jake sitting on the edge of it, worry obvious in his features. “Are you sure you don’t—”

I cut him off in mid sentence. “Its just a little infection as Dr. Cullen said. It’ll go away with the antibiotics.” I said as I fell back into another exhausted sleep. With my body using all its energy to fight off the infection I was always asleep.

When I woke up the doctor was next to me again. He had a very grim expression on his face. “Just tell me. Please.” I pleaded.

“The infection has gotten worse. I have a feeling that it’s going to continue to get worse before it gets better. We are just going to have to continue with antibiotics and let it run its course.” I nodded and took the pill he handed me. “Just get lots of rest and drink a lot of fluids.” He said standing up and walking out of the room. Jake immediately took his place.

He pushed a sweaty strand of hair off my forehead. “Now you have a fever too.” He whispered to himself I think. It felt like I was being eaten from the inside out.

I raised my right hand and traced the lines on his face. “You’re not getting enough sleep.” I said quietly. I could barely get the words out. He shushed me gently and took my hand in his, kissing the top of it gently.

Jacob’s POV

By Friday Jenny was even worse. Her breath was literally groaning out of her chest. She was weak and the fever still raged inside her. I could hear her heartbeats coming in an irregular rhythm and it scared the crap out of me.

Late in the afternoon her breathing stopped and I had to do CPR. The doctor had said that if that happened even if we did call 911 there was nothing they could do. She had to fight it off herself.

The next time she stopped breathing someone else did CPR while I whispered harshly in her ear. “YOU WILL NOT LEAVE ME!! DO YOU HEAR ME JENNIFER ELIZABETH ATTERA? YOU ARE NOT LEAVING ME!! I would be lost without you. You are my life now! You are my whole world and I would die if you did!!” I continued on like that for about 5 minutes. When I finished my little speech I looked up to she her eyes open and trained on my face. There was a new determination there and I smiled at her. My little girl was fighting back.

She went through two more days of touch and go before her fever broke. I nearly cried with relief when it did. She was finally getting better. Finally.

The next days were still hard. She was still weak and her energy got drained pretty easily, but she would sit up in the bed and read aloud or just talk to me. I could see the changes in her as the infection passed. Her face went back to its russet tan instead of being bright red and her eyes sparkled again.

When Dr. Cullen came back the last time he seemed surprised by how well she was doing. When he regained his composure and stopped staring he turned to me. “She is medically fine. The infection is gone, but it could take a while for her to completely regain her strength.” I nodded and thankfully he left.

I turned to Jenny to see that she was trying to hold back her laughter. “Did you see his face? I wish I had a camera, that moment was priceless.” She said between her peals of laughter.

“What did you do?” I asked warily.

“Oh nothing.” She said evasively, turning her head away from me.

I sat down on the edge of the bed. “What do you want to do?” I asked.

“Go outside.” She said immediately. When she started to walk out of the room I swept her up into my arms. She muttered angrily to herself for a minute and I think I caught the words ‘Jerk’, ‘Know-It-All werewolf’ and a few others that should not be repeated.

I walked through the kitchen to the door and Claire nodded at me with approval. I smiled at her as I took Jenny outside. She immediately tried to wiggle out of my arms and take off, but I just tightened my hold and after a few minutes she settled down. “Now we can do this the hard way or the easy way. Meaning you can either stay next to me and we can walk calmly or you can run and I’ll catch you easily and then have to carry you again.”

I set her down gently and she stayed right where she was. “Good, I didn’t really want to chase you anyways.” She glared at me, but followed calmly as we walked down to the beach. Her eyes lit up and she started almost bouncing along behind me.

When she started singing I started getting worried. “Just keep swimming swimming swimming. Just keep swimming.” When I asked about it she said she heard it on Finding Nemo and it had randomly come back to mind. I looked down at her with a weird expression and she just smiled up at me brightly.
