FIRST ENCOUNTER:

She is so damn beautiful.

That's the first thing you think when you see her. There's just something about her - how natural she looks, how unbelievably unique - that captivates you. And even though you see she's already chosen a mate, you don't stop from thinking that maybe she would come to you, instead. Maybe, just maybe, she'd choose a monster over a weakling...

The bronze haired male growls, and you look suspiciously at him. The short one taps her temple and then points back at the bronze haired man. You realize it then, that he can read your thoughts, and you send him a series of tantalizing images of you with his mate. You, kissing her, you making love to her, you, draining her of her life...

You see him take a lunge toward you and then correct himself, moving to stand directly in front of his mate. He blocks your view and you growl softly, trying to tilt your head just slightly so you can see her delicate form. He moves again and continues to stare you down until you turn back towards what is obviously the leader.

While he talks, you listen, but don't quite absorb what he's saiyng. Your thoughts are too absorbed with the frail human standing a few mere feet from you. Your instincts are screaming though you've just fed, but your heart is screaming even louder. There's something different about this one, and you know you wouldn't kill her. You couldn't.

The leader introduces them all and you smile: her name is Bella, and her mate's name is Edward. The name fits her perfectly, you think, and you notice the jealousy that flares in Edward's eyes. The wind blows, stirring her scent mercilessly around the small field. Something catches Edward's attention and he turns towards your inconspicuous leader, narrowing his eyes. Realization clicks in your head as you see the way James sniffs the air and grins, delight filling his eyes. It's time for another game. Only this time, your lover is the pawn.

You play the nice guy, trying to bid time for the girl. You wish she would just move but you know that since you've thought it, Edward will do the exact opposite. It is only his instinct to protect this weaker being that he thinks he loves.

You know he really doesn't.

You see him almost lunge towards you again but the short pixie-like one stops him with a single stare and you wonder what silent communication passes between them. For a brief second you think of how it would hurt the girl if they really did fight and her mate turned up dead. You couldn't do that to her, and neither could he. A look of understanding passes his eyes and though the anger is still there, you notice that he can tell you mean no harm.

James is the leader, you warn him. He nods his head ever so slightly, but keeps his eyes on the leader of your coven. And he's going after Bella. He's a tracker.

Edward's eyes tighten and it takes him a minute to nod again, but when he does it's stiff; angry. You almost wish you hadn't told him because now you know he's just going to wisk your beautiful love off quicker. A bigger part of you, though, recognizes that you probably just saved her life.

You can only hope it's not too late.
