A knock came at the door.
“Who is it?” I sat up on my bed.
“Bella, its Heidi.” Her head appeared in the door. “Can I come in?”
“Yea, I guess so.” She came into the room, shutting the door behind her, then came and sat on my bed. “So, what’s up?”
“Well, I just wanted to talk.” Heidi said carefully.
“What did you want to talk about?” It was rare that any of the Volturi talked to me.
“I thought that maybe I would tell you my story.” That really surprised me, but I didn’t want to be rude.
“Uh, okay, that would be great.” She took a deep breath before starting her story.
“My life was kind of like yours, I became close with a vampire. I had guessed his secret, so there was no hiding between the two of us. However, he had two other female vampires in his coven, and they didn’t really like me, so they told the Volturi about me.” She paused for a second before continuing, “The Volturi came to kill me, but when they saw my beauty, I don’t want to sound vain, but I was beautiful for a human, they decided to keep me.
“They brought me back to Volterra and changed me here, actually in this same exact room.” She shivered at the memory, “I waited for two weeks for him to come and save me, to take me back with him to his coven, but he didn’t come. Aro didn’t like me sulking around in my room, so he sent me out to ‘fish’ as they like to call it. I was in Venice when I saw him. I abandoned my collection to go and see him, to beg him to take me with him, but when I reached him and his two sisters I heard them talking.
“I’m so happy the Volturi finally took care of that nuisance.’ One of his sisters was saying.
“’ Yes, thank you for telling them about her, now she’s out of my life forever.’ He thanked them, and I realized that he never cared about me, I was just another human to him, someone he could never end up with, and obviously he didn’t know that the Volturi had changed me.
“I went back to Volterra and when Aro got mad at me for not bringing any food with me, I explained my story. He told me he was sorry and said that I would always have a home here in Volterra.”
“I’m so sorry Heidi,” I didn’t know what to say, or what she was trying to get at. She obviously saw that I didn’t understand why she was telling me her story and hurried to explain.
“I just want you to know that if you ever want to talk about this whole mess, that I’m always here for you, I understand.”
I was about to thank her when I heard a loud growl coming from the throne room. I stood automatically, wanting to go see what was wrong.
“No.” Heidi flashed to the door. “You shouldn’t go down there, you should stay here.” I could tell she was trying to hide something.
“No, I want to go.” I continued walking towards the door.
“Bella, I’m not supposed to let you leave.” Heidi looked upset.
“Fine then.” I raised my hand and created a shield around her, I didn’t want to fight her, and then moved her off to the side. We had discovered during a practice session that I could move the objects enclosed in my shields.
I stepped out the door and started running towards the throne room. As I got closer I could hear the conversation going on inside.
“Please leave Volterra; I don’t want to have to do anything violent.” Aro was saying.
“Not until you give her back!” Someone yelled, but I knew that voice. Edward had come.
I sped up and burst through the doors of the room. I heard a few gasps from the Volturi and the Cullens.
“Bella.” Edward breathed. I ran towards him, wanting to be safe in his arms, but someone stepped in front of me.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Felix hissed in my face. Edward growled and shifted into a crouch, but Alice put a hand on his shoulder and he straightened up.
“Move out of my way Felix.” I growled.
“Why should I? It’s not like you’re going to leave with them.” He laughed once.
“Felix,” I warned him, my anger boiling up, “Don’t make me.” He automatically moved. He knew that I could smash him into a wall with out even touching him.
I ran the last few steps and into Edwards arms.
“Are you okay? Did they hurt you?” He kissed my forehead in between questions.
“I’m fine,” I assured him; I wanted to know if he was okay, but his face gave away nothing. I would ask him later
“She’s so beautiful, I’m so happy she’s safe.” The statement startled me. No one had spoken, yet I had heard Edwards voice. I froze immediately and then pulled back out of our embrace.
“What’s wrong?” Edward asked concerned.
“Nothing, I’ll explain later.” I answered. Someone cleared their throat and we turned to face Aro.
“Bella,” he motioned me to join the Volturi, but I shook my head no.
“I’m leaving Aro.” I stated.
“Bella, are you crazy!” Emmett whispered in my ear quickly, “There are five of us and like twenty of them, there’s no way we could fight our way out of here.”
“Who said we had to?” The Cullens looked at me confused by my statement.
“Bella, you’re not leaving.” I heard Aro murmur to someone to go and find Jane, and that figure drifted out of the room. Edward stiffened when he noticed who they had asked for.
“I am, and there’s no way you can stop me.” I reminded him. Jane entered the room then, a huge smile plastered across her face.
“Which one?” she looked at Aro and then back at the Cullens. Emmett growled next to me, and Aro noticed.
“The big one.” Aro responded.
Just as Jane turned her deathly eyes on Emmett, my hand shot up towards Emmett’s head. Emmett cringed, waiting for the pain, but nothing came. The Cullens looked at me with confusion, while Jane glared with pure hatred in her eyes.
I smiled widely back at her, and that’s all it took. She lunged at me, forgetting completely about Emmett. Edward made to grab me out of the way, but Jane was already flying backward while my arm remained raised in front of me.
She picked herself up off the ground and glared at me again. “You’re lucky you have that power, otherwise you would be dissembled by now.” She growled.
I only smiled backed before turning to Aro. “Now, I’ve had a lovely stay here, but I will be returning home now.”
“No you won-“I cut Aro off, and raised my arms.
“What’s stopping me, certainly not you?”
Aro pondered that for a moment and then spoke suddenly to his guard as Edward stiffened in response to his thoughts, “grab them, and get Bella’s arms behind her back.”
The guard was to slow though, I had already flung my arm out creating a shield around the five of us, and they bounced off of it, and flew backwards, landing with loud thuds all over the floor.
“Aro you should know by now what I can do, I really thought you would be smart and let us go.” I knew better than to speak to the Volturi like I was, but it was time for payback for what they had done to me. “Let’s go.”
Keeping the shield around us, and then raising my other hand to put a shield over their four minds, we left the castle in a hurry.
“We have to leave quickly.” Edward stated.
“Are they seriously sending people after us?” I questioned. When would Aro get it? There was no way that they could capture me again.
“No,” he shook his head, “But they could change their mind.”
We hurried to the airport, and I snuggled up to Edward’s chest once we were on the plane, we could go on an airplane because of my tolerance of human blood. I looked at his face; it had been to long, and he gazed back at mine, I wondered what he was thinking.
“Bella has got to be the most gorgeous vampire in the world. I love her so much, and I’m so glad she’s mine.” It sounded like Edward, but he hadn’t spoken at all, I froze.
“What is it?” He asked anxiously stroking my face.
“Nothing, I need to talk to Carlisle once we get back.”
“Well we’re landing right now.”
I took a deep breath once the wheels of the plane touched down. It was time to face Charlie.
