I sat in the living room, bouncing around in my seat. I was too impatient to do anything else. Alice walked into the room.
“Relax Edward.” She closed her eyes for a second, “They’ll be here around noon, now please calm down, your making Jasper act all anxious just like you, and it’s really starting to get on my nerves.”
I glared at her for a moment. “Fine, I will.”
She nodded her head and then walked up the stairs and into her room. I would have gone hunting to calm down, but I couldn’t focus on anything for any extended period of time.
I glanced at the clock. One more hour than they would arrive, I could do that, couldn’t I? I leaned back into and closed my eyes, clearing my mind of everything.
Before I knew it the doorbell was ringing, and Esme was there opening the door.
“Tanya, dear, how are you? Thank you for coming to help our family.” She said giving the blond a hug. “Oh, and Irena, Carmen, and Elanzar, thank you for coming.”
“I’m fine, I’m so sorry to hear about Bella.” Tanya said, keeping up with the pretenses until we were sure the Volturi weren’t listening.
“Thank you. Edwards been quite difficult to deal with lately,” She threw a worried glance in my direction, “He won’t talk or hunt, or do anything really, he just mopes around.”
“Well I’m glad we can be of service to your family.” The four of them stepped inside and Esme shut the door tightly behind them.
Tanya walked over and sat on the couch next to me while the rest of my family and hers came into the room and sat down around it.
“Edward, dear, how are you doing?” She put a hand on my shoulder, trying to comfort me.
I simply nodded my head. Edward,
Carlisle’s thoughts entered my head, are they still listening?
I concentrated for a minute, searching for Demetri’s thoughts while the rest of my family carried on stories of how wonderful my supposedly dead fiancé was. Well,
I listened intently once I found them, isn’t that sweet, their friends are comforting them. They obviously think that Bella is dead; I guess we can move back from the house a little bit, and tomorrow we can all go hunting in Seattle, maybe we can stay there for a couple of days, I’ll just leave that new girl here to watch over things. .
“They’re not listening anymore.” I said. Everyone in the room relaxed at once.
“Okay,” Tanya said while turning to Carlisle, “What’s the plan?”
“Tomorrow Alice, Emmett, Carlisle and I will leave and go to Volterra.”
“What about the Volturi Edward?” Rosalie asked, “If you leave during the day there is a better chance they’ll figure out that we aren’t Tanya and her family.”
“No. They’re all going on a hunting trip in Seattle for a few days, and leaving a new girl behind. She’s dumb enough to stay far back from the house, that way if she sees us leave, she’ll either believe that we’re Tanya and her family, or most likely we can make it sound like we’re going hunting.”
Everyone contemplated the plan that I had devised. Then, slowly, one by one, all the heads in the room turned to Alice. She closed her eyes for a moment before opening them and shaking her head and saying, “Yes, it will work.”
“So, what do we do now?” Emmett asked.
“We wait.” Alice responded in a flat tone.
Waiting was harder than I thought. I wanted to leave soon. I didn’t want my Bella to have to be in that horrid place for longer than necessary.
