Mr. Banet’s POV
I looked up as an extremely loud and surprisingly near clap of thunder boomed overhead. However no lightening followed. Strange… I mused. I pulled my brown windbreaker tighter and quickened my pace.
The clearing was slightly muddy which added well to the game.
I was the bystander, like always. My hatred for sports had carried onto my vampire life.
But I loved watching the rest of the family play.
Edward gave Emmett a challenging grin as he got ready to bat. His eyebrows furrowed together.
“You’re goin’ down bro,” Emmett shouted, flexing his muscles.
Edward whipped the ball at him.
The ball collided with the bat and a huge clap of noise was emitted. The ball disappeared from sight. Edward zoomed after the ball, becoming a blur of speed.
Everyone watched intensely as Edward ran off and Emmett raced around the first two bases.
Suddenly Esme gave a small gasp. I ran over quickly.
“What happened?” I asked, slightly worried as Esme never got troubled easily.
“Someone’s watching!” Esme breathed.
Emmett ran home and sped next to me.
“HOME RUN!” he boomed.
“Shut up!” I hissed. “Someone’s watching!”
“What?!” Alice jumped
“How come you didn’t see this?” Emmett whispered with anger embedded in his voice.
“It’s not her fault Emmett, calm down.” Jasper said hurriedly.
“Not her fault!?” Rosalie screeched, easily hitting a couple octaves above high C.
“Shut up!” I harshly repeated.
Mr. Banet’s POV
I watched in fascination as I saw the Cullen family in a silent conversation. I was positive their lips were moving but I couldn’t hear a sound. They all looked upset. I backed away, deciding families needed their personal space.
Suddenly Edward appeared out of thin air to stand next to his family. The cogs in my brain ceased to work. I tried to think of a plausible explanation. He then vanished.
All at once they looked over towards me. I was sure that I was hidden in the shadows of the woods. Obviously not.
Should I say something? Or just retreat? Oh dear… This will be awkward either way.
Luckily enough, I didn’t have to make the decision. The older woman, maybe in her early thirties at most, flowed up towards me.
“Hello, my name is Esme Cullen. I’m Edward and Bella’s adoptive mother” her voice tinkled like bells.
“Uh, yeah. Uhm. Hi. Yeah. Eh. Eh. I was just taking ah a woods in the walk. I mean a walk in the w-woods. Yeah” I stuttered and fell over my words. I felt moronic and stupid.
“Is something a matter?” She asked smiling sweetly.
“I, uh, well, I thought, I though- wasn’t Edward… just here? Now?” I stammered, utterly confused.
“Edward?" She paused for barely a breath, I almost missed it. "He’s home sick, I think you must be mistaken,” The blonde girl, Rose, or something like that, I may recall, talked to me like I was a little stupid child.
“Oh, well. I’m extremely sorry to have bothered you. I hope Edward feels better soon,” I collected myself and gave them a shaky smile.
“Not at all, we hope to see you again” Mrs. Cullen said. It was so eerie, the way they talked, the way the held themselves.
I shivered and turned around, walking back into the woods. I felt their eyes boring into me. I had a strong urge to run away as fast as possible, but I stifled it and quickened my pace.
