Edward was bringing the lovely Bella to officially meet most of our family. I was so happy for him. He deserved this. After one hundred years, I was beginning to wonder if my son would ever truly find love. Someone he could share this long existence with and some how give it meaning.
Esme was fluttering about making sure everything was spotless and not a single picture frame or vase was out of place. Alice was upstairs reassuring Jasper that everything would go perfectly fine and his self-control would be perfect. I knew Emmett was anxious to meet Bella but he also did not want to make the reason for his existence angry. Oh how I wish Rosalie would just be happy that Edward was finally happy.
I heard Bella’s truck pull up the drive. The door shut and I peaked out the window to watch them walk up the drive.
“You look lovely,” I heard him whisper to her. He was reassuring her, and telling her the truth. She was quite lovely. I moved to stand next to Esme, just left of the door. Edward opened the door and ushered her inside. I smiled as I saw a look of awe cross her face as she took in our house.
“Carlisle, Esme,” Edward gestured to us. “This is Bella.
I could here the love and adoration in his voice as he spoke her name. My heart swelled for him. I knew all to well how he felt. I squeezed Esme’s hand slightly before I stepped forward and offered my hand to Bella, slowly, unsure of how she would react. “You’re very welcome, Bella.” I smiled.
“It’s nice to see you again, Dr. Cullen.”
“Please, call me Carlisle.”
“Carlisle.” She grinned, a sudden burst of confidence swelling within her.
Esme smiled and stepped forward to shake her hand as well. “It’s very nice to know you.”
My love was just as happy, if not more so, that our first son had found a love of his own.
“Thank you. I’m glad to meet you, too.” Bella stated sincerely.
“Where are Alice and Jasper?” Edward asked, knowing very well they were listening.
Alice raced down the stairs on cue. I winced a little bit, hoping she did not scare Bella. To my comfort, she didn’t send her running and screaming back to her father.
“Hi Bella!” She kissed her cheek. “You do smell nice, I never noticed before.”
This made Bella blush.
“Hello Bella.” Jasper was a little bit tense. He had the most difficulty adjusting to our lifestyle.
“Hi Jasper.” She gave a small smile. “It’s nice to meet you all. You have a very beautiful home.”
“Thank you. We’re so glad you came.” Honesty was dripping off of Esme’s words. She was overflowing with joy as was I. For so long our son has been depressed and lonely. I prayed, long and hard, for God to send a woman for Edward to love, heart and soul.
“Do you play?” I heard Esme ask Bella. I realized Bella had been eyeing the piano.
“Not at all. But it’s beautiful. Is it yours?”
“No,” she let out a musical laugh. My heart felt as if it jumped in my chest at the sound. “Edward didn’t tell you he was musical?”
“No.” Her eyes narrowed. “I should have known, I guess.”
Esme went into mother mode. “You better not have been showing off.” She scolded. “It’s rude!”
“Just a bit.” Edward smirked and I chuckled.
“He’s been too modest actually.” Bella added.
“Well, play for her.” Esme nudged Edward toward the piano.
“But you just said..” he objected.
“There are exceptions to every rule.” Esme cut in. Just like a mother. Oh how I loved her.
“I’d like to hear you play.” Bella chirped.
“It’s settled then.” Esme nodded, looking some what smug.
We all snuck out of the room to give Edward and Bella some privacy. They needed some bonding time. I could not wait to see how this relationship would develop and grow. Already the bonds were so strong; their love was undeniable. I was so proud for my son. My prayers were finally answered.
