"Okay, everything's all ready to go for the honeymoon," Edward beamed, as he turned to me and smiled his crooked smile.

"And you still won't tell me where we're going?" I asked, trying and failing to convince him.

An amused smirk played on his lips before he said, "Bella, tell me something, did your parents ever throw you a surprise party or anything as a child?"

"No," I said, not understanding where he was going with this.

"I didn't think so," He said, trying not to laugh, "You don't seem to understand the concept of a surprise."

"No, I understand it; it just frustrates me to no end. I don't like not being in on secrets."

"Who says it's a secret?" He shrugged, with a smile.

"You did, apparently."

"Oh, let it go, Bella, you'll know soon enough. Just let me have my fun, okay?"

I rolled my eyes and sighed irritably.

"I love you," he said, with a laugh, knowing he was irritating me.

"Don't talk to me," I joked, pretending to be mad.

He chuckled and came up behind me, wrapped one arm around my waist, spun me around, pulled me into him, and kissed me.

I relinquished all control and awareness as I always did and gave in, returning his kiss fully, eagerly.

He wrapped his other arm around my waist, deepened the kiss, picked me up effortlessly, and begun spinning me around, while continuing to kiss me.

My arms were tight around his neck as his were tightening around my waist. He kissed me one more time before smiling, against my lips, and saying, "You were saying?"

Once I regained enought composure to make sense of his words, I finally managed to say, struggling to breathe, "I don't know....Were we talking?"

He smiled at my temporary case of amnesia that always seemed to affect me whenever we would kiss like this.

I buried my fingers in his hair, playing with it, as our foreheads and noses rested against one another's, while he continued to hold me.

Eventually, he said, "Shall we get going?"

My eyes were closed, taking in the serenity that was surging through me by merely being in his arms, and I nodded slightly and said, softly, "Mm-hm."

He set me down, my body sliding down his as he did so, our arms remaining wrapped around one another, and he kissed me one more time before saying, "Okay...let's go."

Before I could respond, Alice came in, frantically, looking panicked. "Oh, thank God you two haven't left yet!"

"Alice," Edward scolded, "What the hell are you doing here? We talked about this, did we not? Bella and I need our alone time. We won't be gone for too long. Give us a break."

"No, Edward, no! You can't; you can't go; we have a problem."

"Yeah, and her name is Alice." Edward said, in a teasing yet still annoyed and frustrated manner.

She ignored it and shook her head fiercely, "The Volturi aren't waiting any longer. They're going to come and make sure we changed Bella. If she's not changed by the time they get here, we will all die. We cannot disobey them again; you know that."

Edward immediately sobered up and his arm instinctively, unconsciously tightened around me protectively. "How much time do we have before they get here?"

"Four days. They're giving us 'the benefit of the doubt', so that if we haven't changed her yet--" she gave a sheepish shrug, "We'll have some time to do so."

Edward simply stared at her, looking for some signs that this was all a cruel joke that Emmett had her play on them or something, but found none. By the intensity of his stare, I could tell he was reading her mind and her stare in return was determined, firm, unchanging.

Their expressions changed with each thought that was exchanged and again, I was frustrated that I wasn't let in on this contact. Couldn't they argue out loud so I could give my opinions? Why was I always treated like the incomptent one of the group?

I answered my own question when I made to shift my weight to my other foot and wound up tripping over Edward's foot.

This broke their contact as he broke my fall and sighed, irritably, glaring at me. He shook his head and chastised me, "Bella!"

"Sorry," I said, with a grimace, "I didn't do it on purpose." I said, defensively.

He turned his attention back to Alice, who said, apologetically, "Edward, I'm sorry, but I think you're going to have to forgo the honeymoon for now."

"No! Do not ask me to do that."

"Edward, this is life and death, here!" Alice said, exasperatedly.

"Exactly!" He came right back, "This is the last thing I want Bella to experience as a human. I will not take away her life before letting her enjoy the best parts of being human."

I put my hand on his shoulder, "Edward, it's okay; it can wait."

"No, it can't!" He protested, angrily, turning on me now.

"What is the big deal?" I asked, stung by the harshness of his words.

"I already told you; I refuse to take away human experiences from you. It will not be the same after you're changed, believe me, you have no idea how much things will change for you." He argued, refusing to drop it.

"Edward, that doesn't matter. What does matter is that if we don't do it now, we will be in danger. The Volturi will not hesitate to kill me or Alice or you or anyone else in our family. What matters more to you; me experiencing everything now or being alive to experience it later?"

He simply stared at me, before dropping his gaze to the floor, ashamed. "How can you ask me to do this?"

I shrugged, "I don't know; how could you ask me to marry you? You knew how against it I was, but that didn't stop you."

He looked back into my eyes, sorrow and regret filling his own. "Bella, I can't do this." He practically sobbed, "I can't; not now. You're still so--you have no idea what you are getting yourself into."

I took his face in my hands and said, locking my eyes on his, "Edward, I know exactly what I am getting myself into. I would not have it any other way."

He reached up and caressed my face with his fingertips, obviously taking in the warmth radiating from my skin, memorizing it as it will be the last time he will be able to do so. He trailed the back of his hand down my chest, stopping over my heart, and resting it there. He was most likely taking in the exact feel of my heartbeat and I could tell by the intensity of his stare that he was listening to it as well.

He finally lowered his trembling lips to mine, stifling tearless sobs as he deepened the kiss.

When he pulled away, I smiled, through my now watery eyes, and said, "I'm fine. Just so long as I can say my final good-byes to Charlie and Renee, I will be okay. Can I please just go say bye to my parents?"

He looked to Alice, who nodded, "We have time for a quick good-bye, but it cannot be long. We have to get moving to have you changed in time."

I nodded and looked to Edward, who looked more affected by this unexpected turn of events than I was. I caressed his face with my hand and smiled, "Come on."

He nodded and took my hand, leading me out to the volvo and helping me in before getting in himself and driving us off to Charlie's house, for once going slower than the speed limit, trying to draw out my remaining time as a human.
