Everyone was frozen in shock as they took that in. They were all evidently wondering the same thing I was. How that was even possible.

"How did--how is--how--" Emmett stammered, barely coherently.

"Carlisle, how could that happen?" Esme asked, softly, remaining the calmest.

He shook his head, "I don't know. Bella was human when they--maybe that changes the circumstances. It doesn't seem possible that--even if that was the case, Edward would--"

Edward was glaring at me, anger clear on his facial features. Everyone now stared at Edward to see his reaction, knowing it would be bad.

I stepped back involuntarily and said, "Edward? Are you okay?"

He turned around and said, firmly, through clenched teeth, "No. No, I am not okay. I am the farthest thing from okay."

"Edward, it's going to be okay." I tried to assure him, placing my hand on his shoulder.

"Is it?" He snapped, turning back around to face me, "Bella, we have no right whatsoever to bring a child into this life. You chose this life for yourself, and that was your choice to make, I respect that. But, we have no right to force a child to live like this. That is not our choice to make."

"Everything will be fine, Edward. I saw it; Alice saw it. Since when do you doubt her premonitions?"

"Since they led to us having a child. Bella...you...are...amazing. You really are. You would make fantastic mom; I know that. Part of me hated myself for not being able to give you just that."

"But, now we know you can. You will." I placed my hand instinctively on my stomach. "We will have a baby and I know that everything will be okay."

"It is not our place do this....It's bad enough that I damned you to an eternal hell, but not a baby too, I will not do that. Do you have any idea what you are asking of me?"

"Yes, I do. I assure you, I do. But, we don't have a choice in this. It's done. How could we have known what would happen?"

"Why did we risk it? That was plain selfish?"

"Are you calling me selfish?" I asked, incredulously.

"Of course not, Bella. This was all my fault."

"What?! Edward, if I remember correctly, it does take two to make this happen. And since when is it a fault? It's a good thing to have a baby."

"For humans, yes. But, Bella, do you have any idea how incredibly cruel it is to have a child and not give it a choice of lifestyle? To force it to live like this? You had your choice and that's fine, but it is never our place to inflict such a monstrous hell upon a child."

"Edward, we'll figure it out. It'll be okay."

"No...it won't. Bella, you don't know anything. You don't; you think you do, but the truth of the matter is you don't have the slightest clue what the hell will happen to you, to us."

"And you do?" I challenged, angrily.

He simply glared at me and I could see his anger taking over him so I channeled Jasper's power to calm him down and make him think rationally.

After a moment, he closed his eyes and said, "No....I don't. I'm sorry, Bella, I just--how could this have happened?"

"I don't know. But, we can't shun the child and hate it just because we don't want it raised like this. I understand your point of view, Edward, I do. Now more than ever. But, it is also not our right to just hate the child."

He nodded solemnly and I said, "So...what do you want to do?"

After a moment of silence, he looked up at me, smiled his crooked smile, and said, "I want to have a baby with you."

I laughed and hugged him. He tightened his arms around me and pulled me in closer.

When I pulled back, I kissed him and said, against his lips, "I'm sorry for this."

"Don't be sorry. You're right. It's a joyful thing. See, I saw it as the end of us; something that could ultimately destroy us."

I shook my head, "No. It's just the beginning, Edward. We still have so much in store for us."

He nodded, "And I can't wait to start. But, what are we going to do with the fact that the baby will drink blood? Giving a baby a blood bottle will definitely be frowned upon."

I laughed softly at that and said, "We'll work out that stuff later. For now, let's just celebrate."

Suddenly, I was taken over by another one of Alice's premonitions and lost myself in it. At first, it was just a blur; I couldn't really make sense of anything, but then I saw them:

The Volturi were on their way at this moment. We had only a matter a hours before they showed up, but it was different. They were different. They had changed their minds. They were determined, set, and there was no turning back.

The Volturi had decided that whether or not I was changed meant nothing. They were going to kill us all one by one. We had broken one too many rules and they had to do it to keep it from happening again. We were all going to die...tonight.

I came out of it and collapsed from the strength of the premonition. "Edward--" I called groggily.

"Bella!" His hand was on the small of my back and he was looking at me, concerned.

I searched for Alice's face and saw her crouched beside me, with her hand on my arm. "Bella? Are you okay?" She asked.

I forced a nod and her and Edward helped me up to my feet. I held onto them for support and she said, "You saw it, didn't you? The strength of it must have been too much for you."

I nodded again, "Maybe I can't handle this power."

"You can," Edward assured me, "It took us a long time to adjust to our powers too. Give it time, Bella, you'll be fine."

"I don't think I will. None of us will; not now."

"What do you mean?" He asked, now looking to Alice, who looked to me, obviously hesitating telling them.

I stared at Alice for a moment, waiting for her reaction, but she said nothing.

"Alice?" Edward said, crossly. "What is the matter?"

She looked to him now and said, "The Volturi...are not only coming. They're going to kill us all."

"But, we changed Bella; we did what they asked." Edward protested, angrily.

She shook her head, "It's not enough. They don't care." She hesitated another moment and then looked to Carlisle, "We're all going to die."
