The next few days went by without signs of Victoria, so life returned to normal. However, during biology Edward stared at me protectively. Actually all the Cullens were staring at me like they knew something about me, and they were waiting for me to approach them about it.
I sat in biology not really paying attention, thinking about why they would be looking at me like that when it clicked. They knew.
I let out a quiet gasp and Edward turned slightly to stare at me again, but this time questioningly. They knew about everything
, about me being a fairywitch, about me being able to fly, about me having powers, about me being invincible, and about me never aging. Everything.
After biology Jasper and Edward were still there staring at me and I knew I needed to confront them.
“What do you want Edward?” I attempted to sound annoyed, but anyone could hear the pain that leaked through.
“I want to know if you’re okay.” He said still staring.
“Why wouldn’t I be? And why do you care?” I snapped.
“Because I caught Victoria’s scent around town, and she hasn’t come after me, so… I just wanted to make sure she wasn’t after you.” I let out a sigh of relief, so they didn’t know. Edward and Jasper, who had come over from his desk, stared at me waiting for my answer as his words sunk in.
“Why would you care if she has?”
“So Victoria has come after you.” He concluded.
“Yea, she did. But I can take care of myself.”
“No you can’t, not up against a vampire. We should stay around your house to protect you.” He was avoiding my earlier question.
“Yes I can. And no you shouldn’t. Now answer my question, why do you care?!”
“No we definitely should. I think-“
“Answer the question Edward!” I cut him off, and they both flinched, Jasper from the emotions, and Edward from the acid in my voice. “Why do you care?!” I could feel angry tears collecting in my eyes. He looked thoughtful for a moment, like he was contemplating something.
“I don’t- I didn’t… I just-“
“That’s right you aren’t allowed to care!” I yelled, “ You left me! You all left me!” I looked pointedly at Jasper and then back to Edward, “You’re not allowed to care! None of you are!”
I turned on my heel and stormed out of the classroom and then ran to the nearest bathroom and locked myself in an empty stall before beginning to cry.
He wasn’t allowed to care about me, or want to protect me. He forfeited that right when he left me, they all did.
The bell rang for the next class but I stayed in the stall, deciding to skip. I was in no shape to go to class.
That was when I saw the flash of hair.
