It was Sunday which meant first of all dad was home and secondly and most importantly that Anthony was coming over to meet my parents!!!
I can’t wait.
He said he’d come over around 3 o’clock, but since he had said that time had seemed to slow down by quite a bit. It seemed that it took a whole minute for the second to move.
When the door bell finally rang it made me jump. Mom was in the kitchen cooking and dad was on the computer in the front room.
“Calm down Rachel your way to excited” said mom when I jumped at the doorbell. But she was soon talking to an empty room as I had run to get the door.
“Come in, come in. Anthony is it. Nice to finally meet you we’ve heard a lot about you. I’m Nathan, Rachel’s father.”
No matter how fast I ran the front room was always going to be much closer to the front door than the kitchen was, and whoever was in there when the doorbell rang was always going to get to the door first. So therefore my dad had answered the door and was now talking to Anthony. Anthony was being very polite. Nodding and smiling and answering my dads many questions.
“RACHEL, can you the place mats out of the cupboard and set the table. Plates and cutlery are already in there”
My mom’s voice came from the kitchen
“Sure” I answered
.“NATHAN, can you get the extra chair out of the garage? Please”
Came her voice again. Anthony looked up; he had an expression on his face that I couldn’t figure out. It was like a cross between recognition, hurt and worry. I didn’t have time to analyse it because I knew if I hung about any longer my mom would shout at me again.
I turned to Anthony before I went to set the table
“My mom is just through there you can go and meet her I’ve just gotta do this”
He just nodded. I hurried of.
I knew that voice. This was not good. Now I come to think of it the whole place smelt of her.
How could I have been so stupid? It was so obvious. The way Rachel’s blood smelt, the way I couldn’t read her mind properly, the way I thought she looked familiar and her clumsiness. How, how could I have not seen it before?
I had to go and face her now. There was no going back. I walked towards the kitchen.
The place my heart should be had started aching again but this time there was no escape.
I was drying and putting away some plates when I heard who I only could assume Anthony Masen come into the kitchen. Anthony Masen that name sounded so familiar but I knew I had never met anyone by that name. It was a puzzle that my brain refused to solve.
He was standing there in the door way I could see his form out of the corner of my eye. He hadn’t come in yet.
I was drying a plate when I turned around to face him.
The plate shattered on the floor.
He could’ve changed his name, he could have died his hair, he could’ve even had plastic surgery for all I care, but there was no way on earth he could’ve stopped those smouldering topaz eyes burning into mine.
“Edward Anthony Masen Cullen” I whispered to myself.” of course”
I was falling headfirst into those deep honey coloured eyes. There was no way to stop myself. I probably would’ve started crying if I hadn’t been so shocked.
“Yes” he answered
His voice reverberated through my mind. It had been many years since I had heard that voice. None of my memories have ever been this realistic, this right. It was him in the flesh standing in my kitchen and going out with my daughter good god, he was going out with my daughter.
I don’t know why I didn’t realize before. How did I not know that “Anthony” was Edward .It had been right there in front of my nose all the things Rachel had said about him they were Edward.
“How? How did this happen? Why? When?”Was all I managed to say?
“Listen I didn’t know. I swear I didn’t know she was your daughter.”
“My daughter Edward, MY DAUGHTER. Actually thinking about it I don’t care if you knew she was my daughter or not. Were you just going to let another girl fall in love with you and then leave her? How could you do that to another person? You are a cruel heartless, SOULESS creature.”
Then I think I must’ve fainted because all I remember was blackness.
