Chapter 7

BELLA

I had started running toward the sound but I was going so slowly. I could see even less than before now. I was sure I was about o run into the road or was I going the wrong way?

There was no warning. One moment I was running the next it felt as if I was flying. It was a long time since I had last had this experience. I was on Edwards back and he was running toward the road, from where the scream had come from.

As we came toward the road and out of the forest I saw what I had been dreading.

Rachel was lying in a motionless heap in the middle of the road. Edward had set me down at the side of the road and was next to Rachel in a second. He picked her up and brought her to the side of the road so no more harm could come to her. We sat there in the rain just looking at her until I broke the silence.

“What?” I swallowed hard “What happened?”

“She got hit by a van when she crossed the road trying to follow you.”

He looked up to face me when he said the last part. I felt tears coming to my eyes.

“Is she…….Is she still breathing. Is she still alive?”

I held my breath as I awaited his answer.

"Only just. Her pulse is very faint. It’s fading though, she’s dying”

She hung limp in his arms.

“Edward what do we do? I CAN’T let my daughter die.” I was shaking with sobs.

Tears were flowing thick and fast.

“I can’t do anything, she’s going” He stopped and cocked his head a peculiar expression came over his face."Well there is one thing I can do but you won’t like it”

Like an idiot I asked:

“What?, what can you do? Edward can you save my daughter?”

Then the truth started to dawn on me. My daughter could “live” but not as a human. Edward would change her.

“NO.ABSOLUTLEY NO.THERE IS NO WAY YOU ARE TURNING MY DAUGHTER INTO A VAMPIRE!!!”

He just shrugged and said

“OK if you want her to die.”

“NO. Edward you are not going to use that on me. You know I don’t want my daughter to die but I don’t want her to be condemned to a cursed life as a vampire.”

He just glared at me and i knew what her was thinking. It wasn't so long ago for him that i had been desperat for that life, the life that i now shunned. I kneeled down and held her hand, It felt so cold and it was getting colder I could only just feel her pulse.

And then it was just too much,I couldn’t take it any more. I couldn’t just watch my daughter die.

“OK Edward do it.”

He looked up at me.

“Are you sure?”

“No I’m not sure at all but do it now before it’s too late.”

He brushed her hair away from her neck and bent down. He could have been kissing her.

EDWARD

Her blood tasted so sweet. Not as nice as the time I had had to suck James’ venom out of Bellas system but still very nice. I still pulled away as soon as I could I didn’t want to get too tempted.

“I’ll take her to my house .Carlisle and I will look after her there”

“Can I come? I would so like to see Alice.”

He looked into my eyes

“I don’t think that would be …..”

I trailed off. She was now staring into my eyes. I could’ve stayed there forever except that Rachel groaning brought me back to reality. It seemed to have the same effect on

Bella because she too stiffened up. I picked Rachel up and smiled.

“Get on”

“Really? I can come with you?”

“Yeah. I’m sure Alice would kill me if she found out that she could’ve seen you but I said no."

When Bella was safely on my back I started running. I had missed this. Just running for the sake of running. It was even better when Bella was with me. Sure we weren’t on the best terms but she was here.

RACHEL

Pain. That is all I remembered. Lot’s of unbearable pain. I wasn’t even conscious but I still remembered it. I wanted to die I was puzzled that I hadn’t died already.
