At the Beginning with You

Summary:
This is my take on Breaking Dawn, or at least what I hope will happen in the final book. It is told from Bella’s POV and in later chapters it may switch as needed to allow for that character to be completely understood.

2. The Ceremony

“Everyone please rise,” were the first words I heard as Charlie and I started down the main aisle. I kept my eyes facing forward, looking only at Edward, as I carefully walked down the path to my beloved. I could hear people gasping and whispering in shock as Charlie and I passed them.

At one point I took a quick glance off to my left, and was amazed at what I saw. Alice had did an excellent job transforming the Cullen’s back yard for a twilight ceremony, she made it look like a candlelit paradise. I looked at the carefully arranged rows of white chairs, that were now filled with our family and friends. I marveled at the thousands upon thousands of candles that she had placed around the high rose covered arch. She had even gone as far as to have candles hanging from the trees in clear glass holders. I glanced at the delicate arch that was in the front of the ceremony. She had filled it with crimson and white roses and it’s backdrop was the Sol Duc River. I let my eyes wonder over to the right and noticed behind Edward, Jasper and Emmett, there was a string quartet. I felt that it would be a bit much at the beginning but now looking at everything Alice had put together, it all made perfect sense.

Now I looked back to Edward, lost in the beauty of his eyes. I could feel the blood beginning to rise in my cheeks, as I blushed. I turned my gaze back to the front and looked forward to Carlisle. Edward and I had originally planned to have Emmett perform the ceremony, thanks to Alice, we had changed our minds and decided to ask Edward’s father. I was more thankful now than ever, seeing the beauty of the surroundings around me. I can remember the night we asked Carlisle perfectly.

***

Two weeks earlier ~ mid-afternoon.

Edward and I stood outside of Carlisle’s office and knocked on the door.

“Come in!” Carlisle responded as Edward held the door open for me to enter.

“What can I do for you two?” He asked as he marked the page in his book and closed it.

Edward and I took a seat on the sofa across from his desk. I noticed that Carlisle got up and came and leaned against the front of his desk, smiling.

“Carlisle, we have a favor to ask of you.” Edward stated as he held my hand.

“Sure, what ever it is, what ever you need, it’s yours.”

“Well, Bella and I were wondering if you would perform the marriage ceremony for us.” Edward answered truthfully.

“I would love to perform your ceremony.” Carlisle smiled. “However, I thought that you were going to have Emmett perform the ceremony for you.”

“We were.” I answered. “But after speaking with Alice, Rosalie, Esme and my mother, we decided that we would rather have him be a groomsman and ask for you to do the ceremony.”

“Thank you for thinking of me!” He flashed his ultra-bright teeth. “I would love to marry you two. I have a good idea of how it’s supposed to work, my father was a pastor after all. I’ll have my license by the time of your wedding.”

“Thank you Carlisle!” I gushed as I stood up and threw my arms around him. I gave him the biggest hug I could muster.

“Yes, thank you Carlisle!” Edward echoed as he came to my side. “I’m sure Alice has more wedding things for you to work on. Let’s go.”

We left the office and went off to find Alice.

I smiled at that memory, and the next thing I knew , Charlie and I were at the front of the altar.

“Please be seated. Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today in the presence of these witnesses, to join Bella and Edward in matrimony, which is commended to be honorable among all men; and therefore – is not by any – to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly – but reverently, discreetly, advisedly and solemnly.” Carlisle said as he smiled at me. I glanced over to Edward and smiled.

"Who gives this woman to be wedded to this man?” Carlisle asked as he looked at Charlie.

“Her mother and I do.” Charlie responded with tears in his eyes.

I saw Edward start to come forward to me and Charlie placed my hand into Edwards and quickly pulled up my veil and kissed me on the forehead. “I love you, Bells.” He said as he walked over and sat beside mom and Phil. Alice then came to my side and took my bouquet so that I could take Edwards other hand.

“Into this holy estate these two persons present now come to be joined. If any person can show just cause why they may not be joined together – let them speak now or forever hold their peace.” Carlisle looked out into the audience at that time. Edward and I turned and looked out as well. For a brief second I thought Charlie might say something, instead he just smiled and wiped away a single tear.

As soon as that part was over, I started letting my mind wonder, while Carlisle was talking about the importance of marriage. Love, companionship and the fact that God had created man and woman for each other, these were the reasons that stood out to me. The next thing I knew it was time to repeat the vows.

“I, Isabella Swan, take you Edward Cullen, to be my husband, my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before. I will trust you and respect you, laugh with you and cry with you, loving you faithfully through good times and bad, regardless of the obstacles we may face together. I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward until the end of time.” I said as I looked deep into Edwards eyes. The look, of pure love in his eyes, nearly knocked the breath out of me. Next it was his turn.

“I, Edward Cullen, take you Isabella Swan to be my wife, my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before. I will trust you and respect you, laugh with you and cry with you, loving you faithfully through good times and bad, regardless of the obstacles we may face together. I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward until the end of time.” He smiled and looked into my eyes, he looked at me with complete and unconditional love. We turned and faced Carlisle again.

“The ring is a symbol of the love that is shared between Edward and Bella today and forever. It is a perfect circle and has no beginning or end. May I have the rings please?” Carlisle asked as he looked to Jasper and Alice.

Alice and Jasper gracefully walked over to Carlisle and placed our matching gold bands in his hand. They returned to their places and returned their eyes to us.

“Please repeat after me, Bella. I have for you a golden ring.”

“I have for you a golden ring.” I whispered, as I took Edward’s ring from Carlisle.

“The most precious metal symbolizes that your love is the most precious element in my life.”

“The most precious metal symbolizes that your love is the most precious element in my life.” I smiled.

“The ring has no beginning and no ending, which symbolizes that the love between us will never cease.”

“The ring has no beginning and no ending, which symbolizes that the love between us will never cease.” I spoke clearly now, with much emphasis on the last three words.

“I place it on your finger as a visible sign of the vows which have made us husband and wife.”

“I place it on your finger as a visible sign of the vows which have made us husband and wife.” I smiled as I carefully placed the ring on the third finger of his left hand. I gazed into his eyes and smiled. He smiled back at me and carefully took my ring and repeated the vows that I had just said.

Edward added one last line to the end of his vows, it was simply, “I love you more than life itself.” Those last few words made me tear up again. He then took my hand and kissed my ring finger.

“What God has joined together, let no man put asunder.” Carlisle smiled once more. “Edward, you may now kiss your bride.”

Once more I felt the blood rush up to my face. I was actually married. Married to Edward, and I wasn’t regretting any of my choices. I saw Edward lift the front of my veil and anticipated the feel of his lips on mine. The next thing I knew his lips were fully upon mine, he kissed me with more passion than ever before. Once more, all too quickly, he pulled away from me and smiled.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce to you, for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cullen.” Carlisle spoke with eagerness. “Would you all please stand?”

As the audience stood, Alice came and handed me my bouquet. Edward held onto my hand and kissed it gently. The music began again and we walked back down the aisle. I now noticed how many people were actually in attendance, well over two hundred. Suddenly I felt my face flush and I looked over at Edward.

“I love you.” Edward whispered, too low for anyone but me to hear.

“I love you more.” I responded as I continued to gaze into his eyes.

We exited the ceremony site and headed for the house. As soon as were in the house, he leaned in and kissed me again. I could feel my legs starting to get weak and Edward’s strong hands held me upright.

“We’re married!” Edward laughed as he held my hand. “Bella, I love you so much…”

At that moment, it dawned on me just how important this was to Edward. I was thankful that I had done what he had asked. Once more, I smiled and looked at his beautiful eyes. I stood in shock and watched as he fell to his knees before me and he wrapped his arms around my waist.

“Thank you!” He smiled as he looked up into my eyes again. “You have made me the happiest man on earth.”

I pulled my arms around him and held on tight, not wanting to ever forget this feeling. This was our beginning and I was standing with him.
