Daunting Thank you, Marauder by Midnight, for the banner 3rd and last story in the 'Life in Love' series Sequal to 'Possibilities' "This is what we have been waiting for. This was the formidable fight. This was something that I wasn’t sure we were even going to win. Each pair of daunting red eyes stared back at me, filled with hope that they would win. Hoping, just like us, that they would live."

“You’re wearing that no matter what, Bella. I don’t care if you hate it-although, it does hurt my feelings if you do.” Alice snapped as I glared at the closet that I shared with Edward.

“Alice-why do I have to wear that?” I asked her, taking a horrified step back. Alice had, hanging from the door, a dress she picked out for tonight for me to wear.

“It’s Valintino, not venom. It won’t hurt you.” she said to me. I rolled my eyes,

“It looks painful.” It was blue, and the material looked like it clung to you everywhere. It was off the shoulder, and looked like it hit to just above my knees.

“Wear something like this while you still can, Bella.” She reminded me.

“Oh, ugh.” I said as she brought out my shoes. Suddenly her face became serious,

“Bella, please. Wear this for me. Do I really need to get Rosalie and Kate in here???” she asked me. I made a face as Kate and Rose chuckled down stairs,

“No. Fine Alice, I’ll wear it.” I said, finally giving in. Alice jumped up and down, clapping her hands.

“Yay! I knew you would anyway.” She shrugged, walking out of the room and shutting the door.

“Of course you did.” I muttered under my breath. What was this for? They were planning something tonight; I just wasn’t sure what it was. Come to think of it, Alice had kept me out of the house for most of the day, and I didn’t notice it really until now.

I wasn’t even allowed to see down stairs. I sighed and put the dress on, saving the shoes of mass destruction for last.

Once I was done I looked at myself in the mirror. I had to admit, Alice had a talent for picking out other people’s clothes perfectly. But then again, she could always have a vision to see what would look best anyway.

My hair was curled slightly, running down my back. The dress clung to me like glue, but it wasn’t uncomfortable-a surprise. The heels matched perfectly, only complementing the dress and me even more. I couldn’t tell I was pregnant at all-and Carlisle did say something about not being able to tell until November.

Perhaps that was one of the reasons Alice picked this particular dress. I heard Edward walk in the room and shut the door quietly. I could see him in the mirror behind me. Even he was dressed up- he had a pair of nice dark jeans on with a white button up collared shirt and a casual black blazer on. His hair was jelled perfectly- as always. Even if we were married I had never figured out how exactly he managed to do that.

“I have no idea why I am wearing this. Do you?” I asked him, mumbling as he walked up and put his arms around me.

“You look beautiful.” He murmured in my ear. I smiled,

“Thank you, but you didn’t answer my question.” I reminded him. He smiled my favorite smile and took my hand,

“Why don’t we go down stairs then? I’m surprised you haven’t figured it our already.” He said as I eyed him and followed him down the stairs, careful not to fall with the heels on.

Suddenly, with a gasp, I realized what I had been missing for 2 days. How could I be so stupid??? Today was September 13th. My birthday.

“Happy 20th Birthday, Bella!” everyone exclaimed as Edward and I walked into the family room. I had no idea they were still counting. Everything had been rearranged in this room. A banner with ‘Happy 20th birthday Bella’ written in big hot pink letters hung across the wall. Balloons, all of which were pink (some with 20 written on them) were in giant clusters all over the room. There was a table with a huge pink frosted cake with 20 candles on it, sitting on top of the table-though nobody would eat it. Everything had flowers and bows. I felt a tiny ping of annoyance for just a second-what was the point of being a vampire if they were still counting how old I was?

“Whoa.” I said, blushing. Every single person was here and looking at me-I blushed even harder.

“What do you think?” Edward asked me. I smiled,

“It’s amazing-even if it’s completely unnecessary.” I said to them-they had no idea just how unnecessary it was. “Thank you so much.” I said to all of them. Alice pranced up to me,

“We have to do the cake first-then you get your presents.” She announced. I grimaced but hid it quickly at the word ‘presents’.

“Alice, if you don’t mind me asking, why in the world a cake?” I followed her to the table. She started to light the candles as everyone crowded around. Esme flashed picture after picture as Carmen did the same.

“It’s for the whole effect-plus, you get a free wish if you blow the candles out.” she explained, shaking the match so that it was no longer lit.

“The cake’s beautiful, Alice. All of this is.” I said to her. She smiled,

“Thanks Bella, I knew you would like it eventually. Pink tends to grow on you, doesn’t it?” Edward winked at me as I mumbled something she couldn’t understand. I looked down and stared at the candles before looking back up and away from the pink 3 layered cake (and written in white it even said ‘Happy Birthday Bella’ on the top layer).

“Ready everyone?” Alice asked them. “1 2 3” she counted before cueing them in for the song.

“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Bella, happy birthday to you!!” everyone sang before Edward whispered,

“Make a wish, love.” I smiled and closed my eyes. I thought of a wish-

I wish my baby will love Edward and I

Then, easily because I didn’t run out of breath as I did when I was human, I blew all 20 candles out. Everyone clapped as I continued to blush. There were flashes from both Carmen and Esme’s cameras. Edward leaned in and kissed me as Emmett and Jasper hooted and hollered.

“Picture Perfect.” Esme murmured at us as she snapped another picture. Confetti floated around us as Kate, Irina, and Tanya threw it up in the air.

After many poses with the family, including a rather silly shot of me in the middle of Emmett and Jasper (Emmett stuck his tongue out at the camera as Jasper put bunny ears behind my head), and a full shot of the whole entire family that was put on a timer so Esme and Carmen could be in with us, it was time for my presents.

“Okay, Bella. Sit right here.” Alice patted a chair at the head of the long table, where the cake was removed and presents replaced it. Everything was so beautifully wrapped I didn’t want to tear the paper off.

“Bella, open mine first!” Alice demanded, handing me a pink wrapped (no surprise there) box. I looked at the card first; of course it was beautiful too.

“Thank you, Alice.” I smiled at her. She laughed her silver bell laugh,

“You didn’t even get to the gift yet!” she accused. I smiled and opened the wrapping paper to find a book of some sort along with a photo album. I took the book out first,

“2,000 names for boys and girls.” I read the cover out loud. I smiled-this was perfect.

“This is exactly what I need! Thank you, Alice!” I exclaimed. She nodded,

“All of us agreed to hold off on the baby supplies until later, but I thought this was appropriate all the same. There’s one more thing Bella.” She explained. I set the book on the table and looked at the photo album.

It was black, but then in shimmery silver letters it read ‘Forks’. I curiously opened it up to find on the first page Alice had written something.

Even if you can remember your human life, I wanted you to have this to look back at all of the wonderful times you had in Forks. This will last you forever. I hope we can have many more photo albums together in the years to come. I couldn’t ask for a better friend, or a better sister.

I smiled and flipped through the first couple of pages. On the first one, it was a picture of Edward-it wasn’t in a time that I knew him…or even when I was alive. It was dated 1953-this must have been the picture that Tanya and Rosalie were trying to find earlier. There were pictures of Edward and me sitting on Edward’s couch back at the house in Forks. There was a picture of Edward playing the piano while I sat next to him on the piano bench. There was a picture of Alice and I at lunch, as well as one of Angela and I. There was a group shot (I remember that picture being taken the most) of Jessica, Mike, Angela, Ben, Eric, Tyler, Alice, Edward, and I in front of the Forks High School sign. There was one of Charlie and I on my wedding day, and a family picture of Renne, Charlie, and me at graduation. I even saw one when Alice and Rosalie was doing my hair and makeup for Prom. I saved the rest of the pictures to look at later.

“Alice, this is amazing. Thank you.” I hugged her as she beamed,

“I’m glad you like it.” She said.

“This present is from Jasper and I.” Emmett handed me something small. I opened it, rather afraid when both of them started to snicker.

“A GPS system. Gee, thanks.” I looked at Edward and both of us couldn’t help but smile-it was a funny joke since we got lost a little over a month ago.

“That’s not out real present though, just to let you know. Though we thought maybe on that ‘Lost Road’ might show up.” Jasper explained.

“Okay, this is actually from Jasper, Emmett, and I.” Rosalie smiled and handed me another wrapped box. It was wrapped in silver, with a card on the top. I opened the card and read it, smiling before I reluctantly opened the box.

“Um…there isn’t anything in it.” I looked at them, bewildered. They all smiled,

“Look closer.” All of them were now grinning as I dug down to the very bottom of the box. A pure silver key chain with 2 sets of keys on it gleamed up at me. I took the keys out and set the box to the side.

“One is the house key.” Rosalie explained.

“And the other is a key for something outside.” Emmett grinned. They did not get me a car. That would be way too much. I got up from the table and peered out the window. Sure enough, a sleek black Viper was parked in the drive way, a pink bow on top.

“Oh my god.” I whispered. “You got me a c-car?” I asked, stuttering from shock. They all nodded,

“We thought you needed your own-since you can’t run.” Jasper explained. Well, this was sure a step up from the truck.

“Plus, now that you like to go fast it’s easier for us to pick one out.” he added. Rosalie smiled,

“I’ve been working on it all day-it now can go even faster.” She said, proud of herself. I didn’t know what to say,

“Thank you. I can’t wait to drive it.” I said to them. They all smiled back as I tossed Edward the keys-this dress didn’t come with pockets.

“Ours next!” Tanya, Kate, and Irina exclaimed. Tanya handed me a flat wrapped box. I had no idea what could fit in it.

The three blonde sisters were practically bouncing up and down with excitement as I ripped the paper off. “We already had everything loaded onto it. So, it’s ready to go, and you don’t have to deal with the software stuff.” Kate explained.

“I thought you might like the white more than a black one. Something simple, right?” Irina asked. I nodded,

“This is great.” I smiled. They had gotten me a lap top, it was rather thin and it was white with an apple on the front. This must have ran way over one thousand dollars.

“We thought you could e-mail your old friends and such-it’s easier than calling.” Tanya explained. I kept on smiling,

“Thank you! I’m touched that you put so much thought into it. All of you did.” I said to them. Everyone smiled,

“You’re welcome, Bella.” Kate said. Carmen and Eleazar handed me something,

“This is just something small.” Carmen explained as Eleazar nodded,

“We hope you enjoy.” he added. I opened the box to find a frame-it looked expensive.

“It is for your marriage license-you never got a frame for it.” Carmen explained. I smiled, surprised,

“Thank you!” I said to them. I looked under it to find something folded-it was a piece of fabric-actually, now that I looked closely there were 2 pieces of fabric. I held one out-it was a baseball jersey. It was a dark blue with white and on the back it had ‘Bella’ written in white. On the front it had a custom logo of a ‘C’. It was different than any baseball team’s logo I had ever seen. The other one had reversed colors so that it was white with dark blue writing-it looked exactly the same as the other jersey besides the colors, though.

“It’s your new baseball jerseys-we all have two. The ‘C’ is the Cullen’s own baseball logo. The different colors are for the different teams in the family-that way it’s easier to remember.” Eleazar explained in his Spanish accent. I beamed up at him and Carmen,

“Thank you-you have no idea what this means to me.” It felt like I truly belonged, even in the Cullen baseball team. They both smiled,

“You’re welcome, Bella.” Carmen said as Esme snapped another picture of Eleazar, Carmen, and I hugging. That must have been the 75th picture of the night.

“We saved ours for last. Well, more or less last.” Esme said handing me an envelope. More or less last? Oh, Edward had given me anything. I didn’t ask for anything though, so I wasn’t bothered at all. I turned my attention to what I was now holding. There was a card and after reading it I noticed there was two boarding passes in an airline envelope. There were also papers with information on it.

“They are plane tickets for Chicago.” Carlisle explained. Esme smiled,

“We both thought that for your birthday you should take a trip someplace. We thought Chicago would be nice, since you both loved it so much a couple of year’s ago.” she explained. Edward looked at me and smiled,

“The plane leaves in 5 hours.” He told me. I smiled and hugged the both of them,

“Thank you so much, mom and dad.” I said to them. They looked a little shocked-that was the first time I had ever called them that. Even if my parents were still alive I truly thought of Carlisle and Esme as a second pair of parents.

“You’re so welcome, sweetheart.” Esme was completely overwhelmed with emotion, mostly happiness, as she hugged me and kissed me on the forehead. I think she was close to crying. Carlisle hugged me and kissed me on the cheek,

“We hope you enjoy.” he said to me. I could see Edward had the biggest smile on his face I had ever seen in quite some time. He put his arms around me.

“That wasn’t so bad, was it?” he asked me. I smiled,

“No-this has to be my best birthday. Thank you so much, everyone, for the amazing presents and for doing all of this.” I gestured to all of the balloons.

“You’re welcome.” Alice said as there were nods and murmurs of agreement.

“Go get packed! You can take the viper to the airport- Emmett will run and bring it back so it doesn’t get ruined by sitting in the parking lot.” Alice explained, pushing Edward and I upstairs.
