I gulped as I pulled into the garage, my stomach building into knots. Rosalie was working on Tanya’s new car, installing something that made it faster. I turned off the engine when I grabbed the keys, and closed the door quietly-knowing it wouldn’t do much, being quiet.

“Why aren’t you still hunting?” I asked Rosalie. She slid out fluidly from under the car, her hair flawless despite where she was. Her nose crinkled --I smelled like werewolf.

“We all decided to come back-we were going to anyway, it wasn’t right to go without you.” she shrugged.

“Crap.” I muttered as I heard Edward and Alice walk into the huge structure.

“Good luck--I think I’ll go inside for this. You’re in for a rough time” She raised her eyebrows in warning, “he’s been pacing all night.” Talking about Edward, “And she’s been pouting all night.” She muttered about Alice, before running out of the garage, saluting me before leaving. I winced-this would be bad. I sat on the edge of the Volvo’s hood and noticed it was still warm.

I waited as Edward walked slowly towards me, Alice following carefully behind him. If they were going for the whole ‘scary-you’re-in-trouble-look’ then they had it down.

“You’re mad.” I stated when they reached me. I noticed my note was crumbled in his right hand.

“Just…frustrated.” He said between his teeth, “I thought we could trust each other--I hoped that we could tell everything to one another. For better and for worse,” I wanted to groan when he brought up marriage, “I’m just relieved you are here safely and without a scratch.” Edward said as I bit my lip,

“Well…promise you won’t have a heart attack when you hear this,” I paused as I waited for his response, he nodded warily once, “I sort of…Um have a scratch; but it’s going away as we speak.” He tensed, looking like he wanted to punch something. Alice bit her lip too, still not looking at me completely.

“Jared didn’t mean too; he didn’t recognize me.” I explained quickly. I noticed the scratch on my arm on the way home. It wasn’t that big, and it didn’t even hurt much.

“That’s just it Bella, even if they did recognize you they could have killed you. It was dangerous of you to go there-besides the obvious reasons someone could have recognized you and the car. Do you know how incredibly stupid that was? You were lucky to make it out of there un-noticed and alive.” His tone was exasperated, and I understood why.

“And do you even realize how scary it is to look into your future and find nothing?” Chimed in Alice sounding annoyed, “All I saw was black, Bella. People don’t have futures when they are dead, so I could easily assume the worse.” she shook her head and crossed her arms. I sighed.

“Part of being a Cullen is to blend in and to protect your cover before doing what you want. I know.” I said in my defense, “And I broke the un-written rule. But I had to. I didn’t get to say a proper goodbye; this was the one thing I had to do to let go.” I pleaded for them to understand.

“Oh.” Edward whispered, realizing why I had done it. It was just something I had to do. Sympathy washed through his eyes.

“Please don’t be angry with me, though I understand completely if you--” I was cut off by him walking over closer and kissing me.

“I understand.” He whispered as our lips parted, “Just, please, tell me what is on your mind--what is bothering you. I’m always here for you. Let me be a good husband.” He said, holding my face in his hands gently.

“You are a good husband--a great one, actually. Maybe even better then I deserve. I was just afraid you wouldn’t let me go, that’s all.” I explained.

“I probably wouldn’t have let you…but now that I understand your reasoning behind it I’m not angry at all, Love.” He said looking deeply into my eyes. Truth rang with every word.

“I don’t deserve you.” I mumbled, hiding my head under his chest. I just did something dangerous that could have risked everything and he isn’t mad at me at all? I felt so horrible.

“Bella, stop that nonsense right now,” he said with a hard voice. “Please don’t take this the wrong way, but you smell like dog.” I smiled when he said that,

“Yeah,” I crinkled my nose, “I know.” He smiled and kissed my forehead. Wonder was in his eyes--the only way I could smell so bad was if Jake had hugged me. It even surprised me; looking back I didn’t even know how we both had so much self control.

“I’m so sorry, Alice.” I whispered, putting my hand on her shoulder and stepping away from Edward.

“Hmpf.” She pouted before turning around. “I suppose you’re forgiven. Just don’t do it again. Both Edward and I aren’t letting you out of our sights for a very long time- ‘Sights’ meaning both from our eyes and my visions.” She warned. I nodded in understanding-I was lucky that was all they did.

“Thank you, Alice.” I said with a small smile. “I really didn’t mean to hurt you or offend you…I wasn’t being a good sister-I didn’t think things through.” I shook my head. And I noticed she smiled at the word ‘sister’.

“It’s alright, Bella. I see how upset you are and you don’t need anything more from me. But you owe me a few shopping trips. Using my faults,” she crinkled her nose in disgust, “in my visions is not taken lightly.” She warned. I smiled,

“Deal.” She jumped up from the hood of Esme’s car and hugged me.

“Thanks, Alice. You are the best sister ever.” I said sincerely and hugged her back.

“I know.” She laughed and it sounded like wind chimes. Rosalie suddenly screamed from inside the house. Alice’s laughing cut short and she looked wide-eyed in the direction of the house. All of us became alert. Edward, who was watching Alice and me, suddenly relaxed and rolled his eyes.

“What’s going on?” I asked, still alarmed.

Alice rolled her eyes too, suddenly realizing what was wrong, “Rosalie. My god.” She sighed frustratingly as Edward took my hand in his and ran to the family room.

“IT’S A RAT!” Rosalie cried so loudly that I was sure every person in Alaska could hear her. She was jumping up and down on the couch, her blond hair frizzed out from distress.

Emmett was standing next to her, laughing. Jasper joined him. She glared down at the two of them, “WELL DO SOMETHING, YOU OAFS!” she stomped her foot, which was donned with a stiletto heal.

“Okay, okay. It’s just,” Jasper snickered, “so,” he was laughing too hard to speak when the rat moved out from under the coffee table and darted under the rocking chair, making Rosalie scream again, “funny.” Emmett was laughing so hard that unlike Jasper, he couldn’t get up off of the ground.

“Has this happened before?” I muttered to Edward. Alice sat down comfortably on the couch by Rosalie and picked up a magazine to read.

“Alice, are you kidding me? That is a live flee and germ infested smorgasbord down there and you’re reading a magazine?!” Rosalie exclaimed with perplexity. The rest of the family was watching from different places in the room.

“Well, Rosalie-after the hundredth time of you seeing a rat over the years it tends to be the same each time. I know what to expect anyways. All of you,” Alice gestured to us dryly, “are curious and entertained. But it’s annoying, Rose. Oh, and Emmett was planning on putting it in your closet-right by your Coach originals.” She added rolling her eyes again.

Edward chuckled, “Yes, this has happened before. Last year back in Forks she found a rat in the garage.” Edward answered my question, rolling his eyes.

“Emmett?!” Rosalie screamed angrily appalled by his plan involving the rat and her Coach possessions. He shrugged.

“It would have worked no thanks to Alice.” He muttered, peeved that Alice had said something to foil his plan.

“I’ll get it.” Jasper rolled his eyes after recovering from his laugh attack. Alice started snickering because she just had a vision. Edward chuckled as Jasper picked up the rat by the tail. Was I missing something?

“Here Rose,” Jasper thrusted the rat at her, dangling it in front of her face. She screamed even more loudly then before and it looked like she was going to have a heart attack, if possible.

“Get it away. Get it away!” she cried, running behind Edward and me.

“Just get it out of here, Jasper. Rosalie has gone through enough…trauma.” Carlisle smiled holding the door open for Jasper. He shrugged and threw the rat out the door.

Now I know why Edward and Alice were laughing; they had already seen Rosalie’s new outburst.

“Is it just me or does somebody smell like wolf?” Emmett asked when everything calmed down, thanks to Jasper.

The other family members nodded in agreement, “I’m working on fixing that.” I shrugged, looking down at my feet and walking towards the stairs. I could feel everyone’s eyes burning into me without even looking.

“Bella you’re bleeding.” Rosalie noticed as I turned around. I looked at the back of my arm--so much for a little scratch. It was only a tiny sting when I felt it in the car back here.

“Oh yes-it’s healing as we speak, right?” Edward asked me sarcastically. I rolled my eyes before looking back at him,

“So it was bigger than expected. They didn’t recognize me. It’s no big deal. I didn’t even notice the cut again until Rosalie said something.” I shrugged, lying a tiny bit.

“Bella, perhaps I should take a look at it.” Carlisle offered. Everyone else was silent-they couldn’t believe I said no to the camping trip to go see the werewolves.

“Okay.” I shrugged. After a few seconds Carlisle shrugged as well.

“She’s right; there is nothing bad about the cut.” He said to everyone else, “It will stop bleeding shortly, Bella. The blood that is making your eyes red is what is bleeding out. Normally, you would just be bleeding venom.” He explained, “It should heal by itself; I can’t give you stitches now that you’re a vampire. By tomorrow it shouldn’t even look like there was a cut there.” Carlisle explained to me, putting a bandage on my arm to hopefully stop the bleeding.

I nodded in thanks and turned to look at Edward, “Told you so.” I said before walking back up the stairs.

“Edward just got burned!” Emmett boomed and Jasper laughed.

“Shut up.” Edward muttered to him before following me up stairs.

“Bella,” Edward said to me before closing our ‘bedroom’ door, “Love, please come here.” He asked, holding his arms out to me. I walked over and sat down on the couch next to him. His arms folded over me and I buried my head in his chest, snuggling closer to him.

“I love you,” he whispered.

“I love you, too.” I closed my eyes. All of my distress about this afternoon was completely gone when I was in his arms. Here, it was perfect. There was nothing wrong in the world.

“I have an idea.” He whispered after a few minutes. I looked up at him, peering into his now dark brown eyes.

“And what is it?” I asked carefully. He smiled my favorite smile.

“Let’s go away for a few weeks. Just you and me.” He proposed with sudden excitement. I smiled too.

“And where would we go?” I asked him. He kissed me enthusiastically. Then again. He pulled back and I felt his cool and sweet breath on my neck as he kissed me.

“Anywhere.” He whispered. “That is, after you do one little favor for me.” Then he smiled mischievously.

Uh oh.
