Bella/Rory’s POV

We walked up the drive to my grandparent’s expensive house.

“Stupid, huge, old, stupid, house…” Mom muttered. The Cullen’s stood behind us in pairs, watching me intensely.

“Good evening, ma’am. May I take your coats?” A small red headed maid asked.

“Yes thank you.” I smiled and took off my coat to hand to her. Edward took his off, to reveal a red button up shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

“Well, who do we have here? Rory, it’s so good to see you!” Grandma cried, coming in the foyer.

“Hello, grandma.” I said, hugging her. “I would like you to meet my fiancé, Edward Cullen. And his family, too.” I added. Grandma smiled and looked Edward over. She didn’t exactly look happy. But she looked thrilled compared to her expression after meeting Jess…

“Hello, Mrs. Gilmore, it’s so nice to meet you.” Edward said, shaking her hand.

“Oh call me Emily. It’s a pleasure to meet our Rory’s fiancé. Rory is so smart and talented…you know that don’t you?” She asked. Great, she had already started the questioning!

“Hey, mom, why don’t we go in the living room and have a drink?” Mom suggested. That was mom- got to the point.

“Could you be more impatient, Loralai?” grandma asked. She led the way to the living room and sat down in the pinkish old chair. I sat on the couch with Edward, Alice and Jasper. Mom, Luke, Carlisle and Esme sat on the couch across from us while Rosalie and Emmett sat in two chairs on the side of the couches. A chair next to my grandma was obviously reserved for grandpa.

“Well, we haven’t been properly introduced yet.” Grandma said, eyeing Edward.

“Grandma, this is Alice Cullen, Edward’s sister.” I said, gesturing next to me, where Alice sat. She smiled and said “Pleasure to meet you, Emily.”

“And her husband, Jasper Hale, Edward’s Brother.” I told her. Her eyebrows shot up and I realized what she thought. “Edward and his siblings aren’t related, grandma! There adopted!” I defended.

“Nice to meet you, ma’am.” Jasper said, nodding his head.

“This is Emmett, Edward’s older brother.” I told her, waving my hand towards Emmett.

“Yo.” He smiled, waving at her. Grandma turned her mouth down in disapproval. Rosalie smacked Emmett’s arm. “I mean yo ma’am.” He corrected. Rosalie rolled her eyes.

“This is his wife, Rosalie, Edward’s other sister.” I explained, smiling in Rosalie’s direction.

“Hello, Mrs. Gilmore. That is a lovely dress. Is it designer?” she asked. Grandma beamed, saying “Of course!”

“And Edward’s parents, Carlisle and Esme.” I finished, gesturing towards across from me.

“Hello, Emily, this is such a lovely home. They don’t make them like this anymore.” Esme admired.

“Why thank you, Esme.” Grandma replied warmly.

“Good evening, Mrs. Gilmore, it’s a personal pleasure to meet you.” Carlisle told her, smiling showing his perfect white teeth.

“Well, Rory what a pleasure!” Grandpa boomed, coming into the living room.

“Hey, Grandpa!” I said getting up to hug him.

“And who are all these nice people?” he asked.

“Oh, please! No more introductions! Mom, I’m getting a martini, anybody want anything?” Mom told her, exasperated.

“I’ll have a scotch.” Grandpa said.

“Gin martini.” Grandma told her.

“Vodka martini.” I told her.

“You drink?” Edward whispered to me.

“At my grandparents, yes.” I told him, rolling my eyes. Alive then reached over and took it right as my mom handed it to me.

“Bella I don’t think you should have that…” she said.

“Why?” I asked, annoyed.

“We’ll talk about it later…” she mumbled.

“Fine, whatever.” I muttered.

Edward’s POV

Way to go, Edward. Alice thought. I gave her a confused look and she shot me one of her visions.

Bella, about twenty pounds heavier than she used to be. Me coming in and talking to her stomach. Bella laughing and running her hand over her bulging stomach.

Unless she ate Emmett, and your trying to get thru to him, threw her stomach, I can’t think of a logical explanation. She’s pregnant. Alice thought. Oh, shit. This wasn’t supposed to happen! I’m not supposed to be able to get her pregnant!

“So Edward, what are your plans for the future? Have any talents?” Richard asked.

“Well, I thought I would go to medical school or law school. I can play the piano actually.” I told him.

“Well, isn’t that very nice for you.” Emily muttered.

“He is very good, grandma.” Bella defended me. I smiled and took her hand under the table.

“He is very good at it. He composes music too. And he actually composed a song for Bella- Rory, I mean.” Esme complimented me.

“Interesting. Rory loves to read, did you know that? She read the Russian dictionary at age ten!” Emily exclaimed.

“Yes, she’s always reading.” I agreed.

“Such a bright girl…Well, I’m sure you know that. You do know that, don’t you? Well, of course you know that. She had a four point oh grade point average.” Emily seemed to be arguing with herself for a minute.

“You done talking her up, mom?” Lorelai asked, sipping her martini.

“I was just complimenting her, Lorelai.” Emily told her, defensively.

“Well, she’s complimented out, mom.” Lorelai said, as she took a drink.

“Well, Edward I would love to hear this composition you wrote for Rory.” Richard told me, changing the subject. Good lord, Emily! Give the boy a break!. “Would you mind playing it?”

“Not at all. Bella?” I asked getting up. I offered Bella my hand. She took it and we walked into the weird piano area they never really named, as Lorelai calls it.

“Well, go on.” Richard said, coming into the room.

And so I let the keys move beneath my finger tips as I played the song I so often sang to Bella. I saw a tear slide down her cheek. I caught it with my finger

Lorelai’s POV

Rory was crying! It was a beautiful song, but I had the feeling it was something more then just the music. He smiled at her, and caught the tear as it slid down her cheek. Ahhhhhh! There so cute together.

I smiled at Luke and he took my hand. I don’t know if they knew, but I saw Edward take Rory’s hand earlier. That was sweet.

And what was with my mom, quizzing him and telling him all this stuff about Rory?

“Mom, can you stop with the pressuring him thing? You’re freaking him out!” I whispered to her.

“I’m just seeing, what he knows about your daughter. Whether, he really loves her or if he just wants her money.” Mom said, innocently. Bull shit.

“There filthy rich, mom.” I told her.

“I know. He could want more money.” Mom insisted.

“Cause that makes loads of sense.” I muttered.

“And everything you do, makes sense?” mom asked, loudly.

“Not at all! But why would he want a few lousy bucks when he’s got more money than the Olsen twins?!” I asked, exasperated.

“Well, I don’t know, Lorelai! Ask him!” she yelled, throwing her hands up.

“God, you’re impossible!” I yelled.

“I’m impossible!? Who got pregnant at sixteen, refused to get married to that perfectly good kid, left home and ended up with a diner owner?” mom yelled, standing up.

“This is not about Luke! And yes, Christopher was a nice guy, he still is! But we weren’t in love! I didn’t want to marry him just because I was having Rory!” I yelled, standing up too.

“That’s how you do it, Lorelai! You get pregnant, you get married! A child needs a mother and a father!” she screamed.

“Oh, my god!” I yelled. “Rory does have a mother and a father! Chris lives in Forks, I live in Stars hollow! And by the looks of it, I did a pretty damn good job with my kid! I went out and got a job, when I left home! I was a maid, for God’s sake, mom! And I rose to manager and then owner of my own inn! That’s work, where you haven’t worked a day in your life! And right now, Rory is doing well, good, great actually! She’s engaged, to the perfect kid, and all you’ve done is treat him like crap!” I screamed at her.

By now the music had stopped and all eyes were on us.

“Well, Lorelai if you want your daughter to settle for second best, then fine. But I wont stand for It.” mom sniffed.

“Well, who’s the best, mom? Jess?” I asked.

“Heavens no! He was horrible, completely unsuitable for Rory!” mom yelled.

“Would you both shut up? I don’t care who you think is suitable for me! You don’t even know Jess or Edward! Jess had a black eye, so what? It’s not like he got in a fight! And what’s wrong with Edward? Nothing! You just want me to be with some pompous ass jerk like…like Tristan! He was nothing but a jerk, but he came from your world so he was okay!” Rory screamed, coming in from the piano place, with Edward right behind her.

“You will not talk to me that way!” Mom yelled.

“Give me one good reason to not marry Edward!” Rory yelled.

“Because I said so!” Mom screamed.

“Well, mom, I’ve got news for you! Nobody gives a damn about what you say!” I yelled.

“Bye grandpa, I’ll see you later.” Rory said, hugging dad.

“Yeah, see ya dad.” I said, waving to him.

Rory grabbed Edward’s hands and towed him out the door. The Cullen’s came along with Luke and I.

“I’m really sorry ‘bout that you guys.” I told them, once we were outside.

“Damn, you girls got some lungs!” Emmett laughed.

Edward’s POV

“Does that happen often?” I chuckled, once in Bella’s car.

“Very often. My grandma doesn’t approve of anything my mother does.” She muttered.

“Well, Emmett’s right- you have some lungs, love.” I laughed. She blushed and smiled.

“I get it from my mom.” She told me.

“Subject change?” I asked. She nodded.

“Are you excited about this party tonight?” I asked.

“Yeah! You’ll love everybody, I promise! Just stay away from Ms. Patty. You’ll see why.” She laughed, “But, um, Jess is kinda, gonna be at the thing tonight…” Bella mumbled.

“Oh, really?” I murmured, good mood disappearing.

“Yes. And I want you to be nice.” She told me. “Now, I know he’s an asshole, but he’s my friend.”

“Alright.” I murmured.

“Promise?” she asked.

I nodded.
