Edward’s POV

Carlisle, Esme, Emmett, and Rosalie were back from their hunting trip. I could here the thoughts of the newcomers.

It will be wonderful to see my old friend, Carlisle again.

“I don’t believe it. They came all this way on a social call.”

“Who is it, Edward?”

“It is a part of the Volturi; one member of the family and three of the guard. One of them was thinking about you, Carlisle.”

We heard them outside. There was a knock on the door. Carlisle opened it. I hated this. There was no way or time to hide Bella.

“Aro, how have you been?”

“I’ve managed to get by. How are you? I can see that your way of life has worked. Gold eyes do look less intimidating than red.” He laughed. Carlisle turned to us and began the introductions.

“This is my wife Esme, Emmett and Rosalie, Jasper and Alice, Edward and Bella.”

I was getting the feeling of De Ja Vu and I didn’t like it. Aro looked at us as Carlisle pointed us out in pairs. When he saw Bella, he froze and breathed in deeply. He looked at Carlisle questioningly.

“Bella is Edward’s fiancée. The wedding is the day after tomorrow.”

“I assume that you will be making sure that the rule becomes unbroken after the wedding. Am I correct?”

“Yes. It has been agreed upon. The day after the wedding she will be transformed.”

“Good. The three behind me are Jane, Demetri, and Felix.”

The one called Felix was staring at Bella hungrily. I let out a low growl and glared at him threateningly. Aro turned to him and shook his head. I looked at Bella who was cowering against my side. I looked at Jasper and waves of calm filled the room.

“I hope nobody minds. The atmosphere was a little tense.”

“What do you mean?”

“Jasper has the ability to sense and control the emotions around him.”

“Fascinating, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

I could see in his mind that he had no intention of revealing Jane or Demetri’s gifts.

“Well, my friend, I would love to hear about last few hundred years.”

He held out his hand and Carlisle took it. Bella looked up at me in confusion. I leaned down and whispered softly.

“Aro is a telepath, but he needs physical contact to hear someone’s thoughts. He’s limited in that way, only, when he hears a person’s thoughts, he hears every thought they’ve ever had.”

She looked surprised. When Carlisle took his hand away from Aro, he smiled. Aro looked at Alice and me.

“Three gifted vampires in one coven; that does happen often by accident. A psychic and a fellow telepath; all of your talents must come in handy. Do you think Bella will have a gift, as well?”

“If she does, it will probably have to do with blocking people’s minds. I can’t hear her thoughts; never have been able to. We don’t know why.”

“Hmm, that is very peculiar. Bella, do you mind if I see whether or not my ability will work?”

Bella looked up at me. I nodded. She took Aro’s hand.

Nothing, that’s frustrating. I wonder if she is immune to Jane.

Aro withdrew his hand. I shook my head.

“I’d rather you not try that. If it did work, I wouldn’t appreciate anyone doing that to my Bella.”

I put my arm around Bella and held her close.

“Yes, I see. I have a question, though. How in earth do you stand like that with her so close? You don’t seem affected at all.”

“It takes quite a bit of effort. She smells even better to me than she does to you. I love her, and it gives me the strength to resist.”

“La tua cantante?”

“You could put it that way.”

I felt Bella’s arm tighten around me.

Edward, Bella is getting a little freaked out.

I looked at Jasper and nodded slightly.

“If you’ll excuse us, Bella and I are going to go over the final wedding plans.”

I escorted Bella back upstairs.

“Thank you. I was getting a little freaked out. I haven’t been looked at with a hungry gleam in a while.”

“It’ll be okay. I wouldn’t let anything happen to you, love.”

We lay down on the bed and she put her head on my chest. I wrapped my arms around her. Silence settled over us for a little bit. I was the first to speak.

“What are you thinking about?”

“I was imagining the next few days. I can’t believe Alice is going to make us go along with that old tradition. The groom isn’t allowed to see the bride before the wedding; it’s ridiculous. I just want to skip everything and get straight to the ceremony.”

“You’re not the only one. I love you, Bella.”

“I love you, Edward.”

I kissed Bella. My sweet angel was going to be all mine in two days. I tried not to think about the day after the wedding. I didn’t want to think about seeing her in that kind of pain. The three days of Bella’s transformation would be torturous. We finally broke apart and I reminded my love to breathe.

“I was wondering about something. I know that the plan is to have Carlisle change me, but I was hoping that maybe you would do it instead.”

I thought about that.

“We’ll have to talk to Carlisle. I don’t know if I could handle that.”

“I trust you.”

Downstairs, the Volturi were leaving. I was relieved to hear them go. We went back to the living room. I presented Bella’s idea.

“Do you think you would be able to do it?”

“I don’t know. Can you see anything Alice?”

She closed her eyes. We waited.

“All I see is Bella becoming a vampire.”

“We’ll work something out.”

I hugged Bella tightly to me and resolved that I could handle it. Bella wanted me to change her so I would try. Failing to resist the temptation of her blood was not an option.
