10. Edward's House

Rating 5/5   Word Count 1338   Review this Chapter

Bella’s P.O.V.

I stared off after Jake for a few minutes before Edward finally spoke.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

Edward reached down to wipe my eyes. I hadn’t felt the tears that filled them until then.

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah.” I reached up and wiped the rest of the tears away. There weren’t very many, but I still knew I shouldn’t be crying at all. I had Edward back. That was all I wanted. All I needed. That was what I had been wishing for for months. I shouldn’t let this affect me so much. What was I expecting? For them to shake hands and be friends? Of course not. I’d rather have it this way. I needed to move on.

Edward took me out of my thoughts by asking “What do you want to do now?”

What did I want to do now? I didn’t really care, as long as I was with him. “It doesn’t matter to me. What do you want to do?”

“How about we go to my house.”

“Okay.” I liked that idea. I wondered if everyone was there already, or if they were still away. I hoped they were there. I missed them all. Even Rosalie, a little. I couldn’t wait to see all of them. And Charlie wouldn’t be home for at least another hour.

Ugh, Charlie. I was dreading on how to tell him the news that Edward was back. He wouldn’t like that. Not one bit. I wonder if I could just keep it secret. At least until I moved out. But even as I thought it, I knew that I couldn’t do that. Oh well. I would deal with that later.

As we were driving down the road we didn’t speak that much. We just mostly stared at each other. Whenever I looked over and saw him staring, I would immediately blush and turn away, but I don’t think he ever looked away. That thought made me blush even harder.

When we arrived back at his house, I took the time to look around. It looked the same as it did the last time I was here, yet, somehow different. I couldn’t see any cars to tell me if everyone else was here or not. I knew Alice would be here. And if anyone else was here, they would have all parked in the garage.

Edward had gotten out and was already at my door, opening it for me. After I had gotten out, he put his arm around my waist and led me to the front door of his house. His arm felt good there. It felt right.

When Edward opened the door, and we walked in, I got my answer of whether or not all the Cullens were back. It wasn’t just the fact that all the furniture was uncovered and set back in place, something that was probably done by Esme, or the fact that everything was recently dusted. No. Alice could have done all this when I was sleeping at night, the one time when I wasn’t conscious to make sure she was by my side. What gave it away was the fact that I heard two very familiar voices coming from the kitchen. When we walked in a little ways, I saw Carlisle and Emmett quarreling.

“Emmett, for the last time, you cannot get a dog!”

“Why not?” demanded Emmett.

“Because, dogs are living creatures. They have hearts. Those hearts pump blood throughout their body. If you get too hungry, or if you’re just bored, you’re going to end up eating it! Why spend $400 on food when we can get it for free just a few miles away?”

“Fine. If I can’t get a real dog, I’ll just have an imaginary one. Hmmm. I think I’ll have a German Shepard named…. Hmmm, what should I name it… Flying Joe! Yes! That’s perfect. Look, there’s Flying Joe now. Come here Flying Joe. Here boy. Come on. Good boy.”

By that point I was having hysterics. I was surprised that the whole entire town couldn’t hear me I was so loud.

“Bella!” Emmett exclaimed. He came running towards me and took me up into a big bear hug. “It’s so good to see you again! I missed you so much. There was nothing to laugh at without you.”

“Thanks so much,” I said.

Carlisle was at my side then. “Nice to see you again Bella,” he said as he shook my hand.

“You, too.”

“Bella!!!” Alice was at the foot of the stairs and was now zooming towards me. She hugged me lightly. “I see you and Edward made up. Finally he came to his senses!”

“Hey Alice,” I said.

“Bella, darling, is that really you?” This was Esme, who I saw coming down the stairs.

“Yeah, it’s me.”

“Oh, honey!” she exclaimed. She rushed toward me, at a much slower speed than Alice had, and hugged me. “I missed you so much!”

“I missed you, too,” I told her. “I missed all of you.”

“Hello Bella,” I heard a voice say from the stairs. I looked up and saw Jasper standing there, looking a bit uncomfortable and something else that I couldn’t place.

“Hey Jasper,” I said back.

I saw Alice look over at him, give him a questioning expression, and then make her way over to him. She said something to him and then made her way back over to me, Jasper following behind.

“It’s good to see you again,” he told me, then backed a few steps away from me. I watched him look away, and then figured out the other expression that I wasn’t able to read before. Guilt. I realized Jasper felt guilty about what had happened at my 18th birthday. I couldn’t have him feeling that way. It wasn’t his fault. I would have to talk to Alice later. She would have to tell him I didn’t blame him for anything. That it wasn’t his fault.

“Come on,” Edward said to me. Then he took my hand and lead me up the stairs to the third floor. We got to his room and he pulled me in. I saw that it looked exactly the same as before they left. I headed over to his black leather couch and sat down. He did the same, not leaving but a centimeter between us. I stared up at him and he stared back.

Finally he broke the silence. “I missed you so much,” he said to me.

“Me too,” I said back. “You have no idea.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure of that.” Then he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me onto his lap. I buried my face in his chest, and I felt him bury his into my hair. We sat like that for a long time. I don’t know how long. It felt good. Right, being there in his arms again. I felt his face leave my skin, and I looked back up and admired his face again. He looked so beautiful. It was hard to believe this was real. I noticed that his eyes were a beautiful golden color. I forgot how much I loved his eyes. I sat staring into them for a while while he stared back into mine.

Then he did something unexpected. He leaned down and kissed me. It was like the one he gave me earlier, but softer, gentler. It went against his old rules, and I didn’t stop him. I kissed him back and broke more rules. That’s when he pulled back.

“Bella,” he scolded me.

“You started it,” I blamed him.

“I suppose I did. It was wrong of me to do so. I hope you forgive me.”

“Don’t be sorry. I liked it very much.”

“I should be sorry about that.”

“You’re not though?”

“No, I’m not,” he told me.

“Good.”

He kissed me quickly once more. Then Alice came into the room.

“Hey you two,” she said to us.

“Hello Alice,” Edward said to her.

She came over to stand in front of us. “I’m not trying to kick you out or anything, Bella, but Charlie got home ten minutes ago, and if you stay here any longer he’ll start getting worried.”

“I suppose I should go then,” I said.
