Bella’s P.O.V.

We were on my street now, and I could see Jacob’s car in my driveway more clearly now that we weren’t driving at about 100 miles per hour. I wondered what he was here for. I wondered how he would react to Edward. Maybe it was a bad idea to have him around Jacob. But it was to late to change my mind now. Edward pulled into my driveway.

“Stay here,” I told him.

He didn’t answer for a few seconds. “Okay. But if he starts to look dangerous, I’m getting out.”

“Okay.” That was fair enough.

I opened the door and got out of the car.

“Hey Jacob. What‘s up?” I asked as cheerfully as possible.

He didn’t answer. That’s when I noticed that he wasn’t looking at me. He was looking past me, into the car, at Edward. His hands were shaking a little, and he had on an angry expression. I tried to move over to block the car’s window. I don’t think it worked because he was still staring past me and into the car when he spoke.

“He’s back?!?!” he practically growled.

I decided to act dumb. “Who?”

“You know who I‘m talking about Bella!” he practically roared.

I heard the door of the car open, and suddenly Edward was at my side, slightly in front of me to block me from Jacob, and he took my hand. That was quick. And Jake wasn’t losing control. I looked back at him. His arms were shaking now, hard. Well, he wasn’t losing much control.

“Yes, I’m back,” Edward answered for me.

“I wasn’t talking to you, leech,” Jacob snarled at him. Then he turned back to me. “I can’t believe this. Your just allowing him to come back like this, Bella? After everything he did to you? Or do you not remember any of the past few months?” By now he was shaking all through out his body.

I felt Edward wince at my side. “Jake. Jacob, can you please calm down? Please?” I begged him. He seemed to calm down a little. He calmed down even more. He was looking at Edward now. From the look on his face it looked like he was concentrating on something, and hard. I looked up at Edward. His face had an expression of pure agony on it. I looked back at Jacob and saw that he had a little bit of a smile on his face now. That was odd. Why would he be smiling now when just a few seconds ago he was full of anger? I looked back at Edward’s expression. He looked like he was in even more agony now than before, if that was possible. He was staring at Jacob. I felt him wince again.

“It hurts, doesn’t it? To see her like that,” Jake said.

“What are you doing to him?” I asked.

“Just filling him in on the past few months.” Jacob answered.

“What do you mean? Stop it!”

“It’s okay, Bella. Jacob just has a very good memory. That’s all,” Edward managed to say. Watching his face beat my worst nightmare. I couldn’t bare it.

“Stop it! Please! Whatever you’re doing, stop it!” Jake looked at me, and his face went back to the hard mask that belonged to Sam. A few seconds later most of the agony had left Edward’s face.

“Thank you,” I said. Jake didn’t say anything. He was just staring at Edward and I. “Jake…” I started.

He looked at me. “You’re just allowing this? After everything that he did to you, you’re forgiving him? Just like that?”

“There was nothing to forgive.”

“What are you talking about? Don’t you remember what he did to you? Don‘t you remember any of the last few months at all? Or is one of their powers brain-wash, too?”

I ignored his last little comment. “I remember. There was still nothing to forgive.”

“I can’t believe this!”

Edward moved to cover a little more of me. Jacob had started shaking again.

“I’m not going to lose control, leech!” Jake yelled at Edward. “You don’t have to protect her.”

“Yes I do. You’ve already started to lose control. Now and before.”

“I’m not going to lose it! And she is pretty strong. I should know.” The concentrating look came back to his face and Edward winced again.

“Not this again! Stop it, Jake!”

“It’s not like he doesn’t deserve it.”

“Deserve what?!?!” I was very confused now.

“To know what happened in the last few months when he was gone. If he is going to be back for good, which I’m assuming he is, he should be filled in. We wouldn‘t want Mr. ‘Can Do No Wrong’ to be in the dark, now would we?”

“Jake, no! Stop!”

“It’s okay Bella. Really,” Edward said in an agonized voice.

“No it’s not. Jacob!”

“Sorry,” Jake said sarcastically.

I took a deep breath. “Did you want something,” I asked him.

“What do you mean?”

“You came for something, right?”

For a minute he seemed to forget that Edward was here. “I missed you. I haven’t seen you in a long time.” Now he was brought back to the present time. “Not since that time with the psychic. I guess I know why, now. She really does see stuff, doesn’t she?”

“Edward just arrived back today, Jake,” I informed him.

“That was a fast make up. You really don‘t hold anything against him?”

“There’s nothing to hold against him.”

“Ugh! Not this again. Well I guess I should go now. Wait.” It was silent for a few seconds before Edward spoke.

“Yes, I know. We will be watching for her. You don’t have to worry anymore.”

“I don’t think so. She’s still our responsibility. I’m just informing you so that if she does come over here, you won’t be taken by surprise.”

“What are you talking about?” I asked. I was very confused by the change in topic.

“Victoria,” Edward said while Jacob said “The redheaded bloodsucker.”

“Oh.” It made sense now.

“I’ll be going now,” Jake said harshly and turned towards his car.

“Jake…” He turned back around to face me. “Still friends, right?

His face softened just a little. “I’ll try. But I don’t know. If I thought it was hard before, it’s nothing compared to how hard it will be now, now that he’s back.” He looked at Edward when he said those last words. “And I‘m assuming he is back for good.”

“Yes, I am.”

“Jake.” I walked around Edward toward him with my arms outstretched. He met me half way and pulled me up into a tight hug. Even though I couldn’t breath, I didn’t pull away. I didn’t know when I would ever see him again.

“Bella,” Edward said. I pulled out of the hug.

“I’ll miss you,” I told Jacob.

“Me, too.”

Edward pulled me back towards him as Jake got into his car.

“Bye, Jake,” I said as he shut the door and turned the car on.

“Bye, Bells.” And then he drove off down the street, turned the corner, and was gone.
