Leah walked through the door and sucked in a large gulp of air. Nice, clean air... She was considering just stopping the pain forever, but out in the open it was easier to think clearly. She walked down the road towards First Beach. As she reached the beach, she took a right and headed towards her special spot on a rock overlooking the ocean. She felt tears prick her eyes- the only person she had ever shown this place to was Sam. She tried to hold back her tears, but they became too strong. Steady rivers of tears flowed down her face, soaking her shirt. Her eyes flickered closed and she laid down on the rock and fell asleep.

As she opened her eyes, the first thing she was the pink and gold sunset. She realized she must have slept there all day. She knew her eyes must be red and puffy, so she rubbed them to try and look more natural. She stood up and started home. She walked through the door, and even still questions were aroused.

"Oh, dearie, there you are! Where were you?"

"I was at the beach.... Does it really matter?"

"Oh, okay sweetie."

"I’m going to bed." Leah announced. It seemed like sleep was the only escape form the tears, as she walked up to bed the tears started flowing again, but that didn’t stop her from hearing Seth whisper something to her mom. She flopped down on her bed without changing her clothes, with tears streaming down her face, and fell asleep into an unrestful slumber.

She woke up to another day and groaned out loud.

"Honey?" her mom called through the door. "I brought you some hot chocolate and some muffins. Can I come in?"

"Fine..." Leah answered. Her mom walked in with a mug and two muffins.

"Here you are sweetie," said her mom as she handed her the food. "When you’re done, get dressed. We’re going somewhere."

"Where?" asked Leah suspiciously.

"A meeting," answered her mom, as she walked out the door.

"With who?" asked Leah, but her mom was already out the door. She decided just to go along with it, because it wasn’t like she had anything better to do. She ate her breakfast and put on a green, knee-length skirt and a blue tank-top. She slipped on her green flip-flops as she walked out the door to the car, where her mother and brother sat waiting. She slid into the passenger seat and said:

"Anyone wanna tell me where we’re going and who we’re meeting?" But her mom was humming and suddenly felt like turning up the radio really loud. Leah gave up and laid back with her eyes closed, listening to the music. Tears leaked out of her eyes, as if trying to make her feel pain. Like she needed their help...

Pretty soon she felt the car stop. She looked out the window and realized they were at First Beach. Everyone got out and stood in the sand.

"Okay, honey, why we’re here," her mom said as she started leading her around a bend in the beach. "We’re here for a werewolf council meeting," she said quickly.

"What?!?" Leah screeched. "No! I don’t want to go! I-" Tears started flowing down her face again.

"-Honey, we are already here. We have to go! We are now part of the werewolf community! We have to learn about what to do about it." Leah’s mom cut in. They had rounded the corner by now. Leah saw everyone- including him. Sam stood next to Emily, looking solemn.

There she stood- looking extremely reluctant, tears streaming down her face. She was yelling at her mom. He didn’t know how they had ever got her to come. They had gotten her to sit in one of the chairs. Sam squeezed Emily’s hand even harder. She squeezed his hand back and gave him a reassuring smile. He started to speak.

"Welcome, all families, including the new ones," he said, avoiding her eye. "Allow me to introduce the newest members of our pack, Seth and-and Leah Clearwater. We hope they will be a helpful addition to our pack, especially during these difficult times. I now turn it over to Mr. Quil Ateara and Billy Black. They will tell the tribe legends. Afterwards, we can eat!" Sam sat down with his arms around Emily as Old Quil began the stories he had heard many times already. After the stories, he had his usual eating contest with Paul, Embry, Jacob, and Quil. He avoided seeing or talking to Leah.

"Hey, man, are... you and, you know, Leah, like, okay?" asked Jacob cautiously.

"Not quite," Sam answered grimly.

"Oh," Jake said understandingly. "I’m sorry."

"It’s fine," Sam answered. "It’s getting time to go... almost two o’clock.

"Yeah. See you around, man."

"Alright, bye," he said. Then louder he said "It’s getting to be the time where we have to go, everyone. Thanks for coming. Bye." He went back to Emily and then slid into the car. "Well, at least that’s over..."

"Yea. I love you..." she said.

"What was that for?" he asked.

"I don’t know, to make you feel better... It’s true, you know. I love you."

"I love you, too," he answered with a smile. "What do you say we go out for lunch today?"

"‘Kay. Let’s go!" And he drove off to a restaurant.

Leah couldn’t believe they would do that to her. As far as she was concerned, she wasn’t a werewolf. She was never going to phase back. What would be the point? She got out of the car, and ran up to her room. She kicked off her shoes and picked up her iPod. She sat listening to it, letting the tears fall. She wondered when the pain was going to stop and glanced around her room- and stopped.

"What do you want?" she asked Seth crossly and put her iPod on pause. Seth had come in unnoticed.

"I... I just wanted to talk to you. You seem really mad about this. It’s really hard for Emily, too, you know," he said quietly.

"Oh, yeah, I can really see how difficult this is for Emily. I mean, here’s me, loved someone for four years, gave up college for him, gave up my life, then got engaged- with a ring. Then he dumps me. Yeah, and then she falls in love with her soul mate, the one who left me for her, and lives happily ever after. Yeah, no comparison. It was so hard for her." Leah said heatedly.

"You’re her favorite cousin! She- " he started to say, but got cut off by Leah.

"- You know, Seth, I’m really thinking of leaving," she said baldly.

"You... You mean like running away?" he asked unbelievingly.
